The New Acura Integra Type S Is the Best FWD Car In a Decade - TheSmokingTire

Acura's all-new Integra Type S is to the Civic Type R what Porsche should have done with the GT3 Touring, but neglected to do. It's got all the performance and all the fizz, but dialed back just enough to be a better everyday street car with more comfort features, a slightly softer suspension, and better technology. It looks great, its performance is exceptional, and it offers incredible engagement and feel but with minimal harshness. Zack and Matt hit the canyons to explain why this is the best front-wheel drive car we've driven since the Ford Fiesta ST in 2014.
Acura provided the vehicle, insurance, and a tank of fuel for this review.

Hey guys - there is a small error in this video and it's my own fault. I don't know why I said the Honda Civic Type R has 20" wheels. That's the last-generation car. The current generation car has 19" wheels. The Integra Type S has 19" wheels that are lighter than the CTR's current-generation 19" wheels. I guess I backfilled that one on my own. Stupid mistake. - Matt

Instead of referring to $50k+ cars as "affordable", I think it would be more accurate to say "attainable. As in, if someone were to save for a while, they could buy it at some point later in life. Thats different than a 911 turbo which will never be attainable for the large majority of ppl. The BRZ and miata are what i think of for affordable sports cars

@@Nah5534 if by slow you mean 0-60 times, this car wasn’t made for drag racing, it’s a FWD car with a manual transmission, it’s not going to come off the line hard. It also traps higher in the quarter mile than it’s competitors which translates to the real world. Tuning wise, the K20C1 has more potential than other engines in its class minus the 5 cylinder turbo in the RS3, but I consider that car to be in its own class altogether. If the FK8 taught us anything is how hard these cars pull up top with some tuning.

Gotta be honest, this car is woefully overpriced, underpowered, and overweight. The k20 was an amazing engine, how did Honda with all its facilities build such an underwhelming car? 52k ? A camaro ss, 400z , q50s, mustang gt, challenger, wrx will destroy this car cheaper in every way possible. And I’m missing a long list of sport sedans in the same segment. 52k for a fwd sedan? Before dealer markups? I respect Honda getting back in the game but , I bought a 2020sr3 radical and twincharged it for 97k . 3k on the odometer. The integra is money poorly spent. By people living in nostalgia land . 3200 lbs? My g35s 6mt sedan 2007 weighed less than this integra stock. I also wonder how much the checks were to Matt and company to not give any negative feedback. Less car review and more infomercial

My previous car was an ‘05 RSX Type-S and it was a hoot to drive. I miss that thing. Current car is a ‘15 Civic Si. This new integrea has had me excited, next car in a few years may very well be a ‘25 Integra Type-S

That’s the whole point. You even said you cannot afford one, but you could have afforded the RSX type s when it launched at 24k. The price is ridiculous, it’s in Porsche territory only you aren’t getting a Porsche.

Old man in the room 36. I've had several GSR two and four door. I currently running my mint 94 ex civic sedan all of them being stick of course. Lots of models Sense the fifth gen have been cool but I've never like any of them more. But now am old and my back hurts and I still go down the same canyon road. Mon-fri trust me when I say this as a life long Honda boy. This is better then all of our cars. Am in love I want a blue one more then I wanted a 94 blue si hatch as a young teen. ,😍🥰🤩 I will own one.

This is one of the best videos y'all have done. The production quality of this is like 2 or 3 steps above most of your other videos. I enjoyed the flow of the video and the serious/comedy balance. Edit: I was wrong on this next part, this was the TLX type S as per TST correction ----Also, I recall Matt being very unimpressed with this car after the launch at Laguna Seca. Has something changed since then or is that just a factor or being able to drive it outside of a track setting?

I'm surprised Matt couldn't think of anything he'd tell Acura to improve about this car. The obvious first thing to say is that its price isn't actually 52k in real life. If Honda/Acura would stop letting dealers get away with this, then it'd for sure be as perfect as described in this video.

I think y'all might have found a happy medium here format wise. I know on the podcast y'all have been airing your grievances about the different formats y'all have been experimenting with, I think this one is a keeper. It's so much more engaging than the one takes, I could be wrong, but it looks a lot easier to edit than your magnum opus in the Dakar video. I'm drawn in, it tells a story, and gives y'all an opportunity to exercise that creative muscle, but it's not super over the top production quality wise, I hope. Having the meat and potatoes still being driving impressions in the car on a road Matt's driven on a thousand times in 900 different cars satisfies that part of me that LOVED the one takes, but then you have the narration over it, and the brilliant writing to form this overarching narrative, it's beautiful. It's something special. I really hope this format sees enough to success to make however much behind the scenes work worth it. I absolutely love it, and think y'all hit an absolute no doubter home run here. I understand if the views aren't there y'all are gonna have to can the format, but man do I love this one.

funny that the only thing that makes the ctr boy racer is the wing. replace it with something similar like on the type s, the civic would look more mature. front and rear is a lot more aggressive than the fl5, plus you have that over fenders that looks aftermarket.

Great car, awesome review. If I were to simplify my 3 cars down to 1, this Acura would do it (Lexus GSF, 99 911 manual, 97 Jag XJ6 ). While one could buy a used GSF for this price, there is no manual for its epic V8 and near magical RWD torque vectoring diff. My 911 was away for nearly 3 months, having weaker car but with a manual makes a very positive difference for involvement and satisfaction. Matt n Zach, really appreciate your reviews and qualified opinions!!!

Sunroof delete is a gap in my opinion, as most owners with it use it a lot. The A Spec has it and if the purpose of the Type S is to be a road car rather than track, Acura should have engineered a sunroof in it. And yes, power on the passenger side too cuz it's just cheap to not have it at $51K. Other than that, I'm sold and would trade my A Spec for this.

The Elantra N is a *fantastic* value at its price point. It is, in the real world, just as quick as these cars. The ITS is better looking, better seats, a better stereo, and has better inputs, which to me is worth the price difference. But if you want true "most performance for the least amount of money" the Elantra N is a great vehicle.

I used to doubt the statement that you can get the vibe of a car ina few hundred feet, but this past weekend taught me otherwise. I was on rally with two dozen other cars where much key swapping was happening, and yes, with some car experience you can totally tell what a car is all about. I trust Matt and Zach’s opinion on this.
