The Ferrari 355 is the last of the truly old-school Ferrari's. An evolution of the earlier 348, the F355 features a 375 HP mid-mounted V8 and a gated manual transmission. This owner has done some exhaust work on his Fezza, making this the likely candidate for best sounding One Take of all time.

Music is overrated. This ferrari and the noises it makes are amazing better than music any day. Chris Evans drives with no music to hear his car. I do the same. Prefer the sound of my 1.8 in my 01 miata,with the mechanical shifting noise of going through the gears. I don’t drive with music.

I've put 13K miles on my F1 GTS in 3 years of ownership. Yeah, if you are lucky enough to have the means to own one, you definitely want to drive it and not just look at it in the garage. I regularly have owners of every other FCar model compliment the sound (I also have a Capristo). Cool when guys with new quarter-million-dollar models are envious of the sound of my '98. :)

@Ray Be kind to others, it goes a long way Actually, electric cars aren't going to outnumber normal cars for a LONG time. The automotive industry takes a very long time to change, especially because cars live for so long. Trust me, as someone planning to head into that industry, internal combustion is here to stay for a long time yet. There's still a lot of development they have in them.

I can't believe people have the sacrilege to compare modern Ferrari engine noises to this car. Pu-Lease! The 355 (THREE *FIVE FIVE* btw, not THREE FIFTY FIVE, there is no correlation between the 5's) will forever be one of, if not THE best sounding Ferrari V8 engine of all time. Jam your 360 and 430 up your backside. The ONLY thing that comes even remotely close of channeling that old staccato screaming wail, is a 458 GT3 race car. Obviously the FXX sounds insane, but even more obviously that's not a V8.

Pfffft. F40 as amazing as it is - literally a near perfect car - is not that good a sounding engine. It's very quiet too due to the TT. F40 GT and LM race cars sound great, but atypical to every other V8 small displacement race prep engine. NOTHING sounds like an F355 Ferrari. F50 is not even a V8!!! And doesn't even warrant discussion as superior in any discussion. They are junk collectors items. Hated in their day, and still so.
@b00stedrust

I didn't know any comparison had to be limited to the v8.. But I've heard an F40 in person and it sounds way way better than any 355.. Just my opinion.. you know a stock 355 doesn't sound like this car right? They're actually pretty quiet too

Hey Matt... you'd better watch yourself. These things are addictive!! I worked in sales in the Ferrari store in SF in the early '90s and you just couldn't get enough seat time... ever!! The tactile feel is addictive and the sound is like none other! We took several cars to Laguna Seca for the Monterey Historics one year and I was assigned to (it was my job... Honestly!!) to take a 348 GTC down there for the weekend "for exposure." I'm not sure whether sales ever increased because of my efforts but I certainly tried to do more than my fair share to "show the flag." The purchase price can be steep and that maintenance is a killer... but the sound of one of those V8s winding out to about 7500 RPM can make you forget everything else... at least for a little while.

Christ buddy, i seriously get a natural high and my body fills with butterflies and my skins tickles with goosebumps watching this video, listening to the engines sound track as i feel your joy enter my mind and heart while drive and talk about this this car! I did a track day with a ferrari 458 and i cant tell you wjat that experince meant to me, i am a mechanic and a HUGE car guy and that was the single most exhilarating experience of my entire life(39 yrs old TODAY!). I highly recommend if you are at all a car enthusiast that you go rent one of the supercar rental lap days at your local trackday where you can drive any Supercar of your choice on a track for several laps, it's an incredible experience and will rish adrenaline into your body like no other experience can.i drove that car balls to the wall and i could hardly walk when i got out i was shaking so bad. anyone that says race car drivers aren't top tier athletes has never experienced a race car on a track. To drive a car to that pro level of ability for hours on end takes incredible endurance! I could go on all day about this lol, mr smoking tire, u are one lucky man with my dream job!

The 355 has been undervalued for too long. It's an amazing and unique driving experience that is an assault on all of your senses. Maintenance isn't that bad when you average it out annually and especially if you're able to do the basic maintenance yourself. A driven and well maintained car is likely to cost less in the long run as stated in the video. I've owned much faster cars but my 355 will go to the grave with me. Timeless looks with a true F1 exhaust note...can't be matched!

Matt, do the maintenance yourself. It's a 90s car. It can't be that difficult to get the motor out. It was basically hand built so most all the bolts should be accessible. I bet it's easier to work on than a mr2. There are probably lists of parts from Napa that will work too. Iirc, there is a list on the Lamborghini forum if parts from Napa/autozone that are direct replacements. (Like Lamborghini sourced the part from an alternator from a Ford Explorer, added a bracket and bolted it up. then they sell the same alternator for $600. you can get a Explorer alternator, swap the bracket, and have the exact same part, not close to the same part, not a part that will work in place of the lambo part, but exactly the same part, because Lamborghini shops at Ford too...). Ferrari must do the same thing, especially in the 90s. there is a list of parts somewhere...

+sleepybird09 Bullshit. Not if you buy a $60k F355 and want it as a driver. The cars have bottomed out and no amount of self done maintenance or miles will ever bring the value down. I am not talking about buying a pristine showroom example with 200 miles and serviced weekly by Italian racing team maintenance guys that should be in a museum somewhere, I am talking about a driver. A car you can take to the canyon without worrying about putting more than the prescribed 12.7 miles per week. Someone that would be in the market for a nice corvette but decides on something interesting. There are two types of Ferrari owners. Guys that love to drive, and guys that love being seen driving. If you are the the first type, you buy a driver. And a driver won't lose value by doing your own maintenance.

A 1995 355 Berlinetta is the only exotic car I ever got to drive, alone. I am a big guy (450+ pounds) and with the seat all the way back I fit in there like a glove. A surgical latex glove, but nevertheless I FIT! The shifter was way cooler than just seeing the gate. That feel of going from gear to gear is uniquely sexy. The sound was so sweet. There was a radio in the car but the natural speakers hanging out of the back of the car was music enough to my ears. I hit 90 in second gear, jizzed myself, then hit third. Oddly enough I was subconsciously wanting someone to see me driving the car that I knew, just to blow their mind and sure as shit as I was slowly going over some railroad tracks this douchebag from the hood was going over the same tracks, at the same time, the other way. I just gave him the old wink and nod (like "fuck you" I am driving a Ferrari, and I am a fat motherfucker!). An experience I will never forget.

A fun video, congrats and thanks. A few observations from a long time F355 owner / mechanic: * The engine has a Formula 1 sound because it is the engine that Ferrari used for 1993 era Formula 1 racing seasons; just converted over to street use. For example, that's why the valve guides are sintered iron, not a more conventional alloy like silicone-aluminum-bronze. * The shrinking leather on the dash is really only a problem of deferred maintenance ... a twice yearly application of a Pebble Beach quality leather conditioner like Leatherique will stop or eliminate the shrinkage. * The car needs regular maintenance, gotta' pay to play, but it's worth it. * the road used in the video was perfect for the demo; the car isn't meant for city traffic, although it will handle that without overheating or doing anything embarrassing. The engine was built to rev ....... works best in the 4000 to 8000 RPM range ... the redline is 8600 RPM .... engine was designed to easily go to 10,000 RPM. Our host was upshifting way too early, missed a lot of the fun. Let it sing. It's the flat crankshaft that gives it voice.
@eddy91604
@eddy91604 8 жыл бұрын
The valve guides from the factory are bronze actually. The sintered ones are the replacements used by most mechanics. Mine runs pretty well in stop and go traffic, no overheating so you're right there. Haven't heard that about the dash but I think it's safe to say the leather is def not as good as other cars since it shouldn't be doing this. Same goes for the sticky buttons. All in all, well worth it :)
