The search is on to find a new first minister of Scotland after Humza Yousaf announced he would be quitting, following his self-destructive decision to end power-sharing with the Greens. Has Scottish independence died with Humza Yousaf’s premiership? And what about the fortunes of the SNP - could anyone turn it around in time for a general election? Spectator Chairman Andrew Neil speaks to Cindy Yu.

How dare he take advantage of everything this country has given him, & disrespect us so viciously and woth such vitriol. He should have been sscked then. He then goes on bbc1 to say anyone who thought he was racist was " only the extreme far right groups' He lied & said a nursery was "islamaphobic" to get attention! Glasgow Environmental Inspectors have been complaining for years that the number of staff had been reduced to a low level, the type of poison used to treat vermin was ineffective and they warned that there would be a rat population problem, if money wasn't invested into the department. How right they were. Education is in a dire state. I agree with Andrew that MSP'S have allowed this to happen. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🇬🇧🇬🇧

One of the reasons for leaving the EU was the worrying debt levels of countries like Italy. Italy's debt is around 140% of GDP. The EU won't allow Italy to default on its debt (which is a distinct possibility) so the member countries would be forced to pay for a bailout of Italy. The bailout of Greece was costly enough but Italy's economy is 10 times the size of Greece. If Scotland becomes independent, rejoining the EU may not be a good idea. Obviously there are benefits but the substantial risk of Italy and other countries is still looming.

I am a proud Scot and proud Brit. Andrew Neil is absolutely spot on with his analysis. The SNP are just mind-blowing in their ineptitude. The wondrous news that the passing of Humza Yoursaf is now followed by the return of John Swinney makes me want to dance for joy. Please just give the finance job to Peter Murrell. The chances of them delivering independence has receded into a period beyond my lifetime and I am just delighted. The more advanced of them are stuck in Culloden, but the majority of them live very happily in Banockburn. They live in a dream world of cats with tartan collars and dogs in kilts. They think of some imaginary united Scottish 'clan' that simply does not exist in 2024. Countless Scots have married English people - we are long, long gone past the world of the MacSweens uniting with the Mackenzies to stop a tribal feud. Scotalnd's future lies in the United Kingdom surrounded by other nations that love the Scots and all the amazing things they have achieved. Instead of that we are faced with endless cries for an independence that is the answer to all Scotland's problems. It is the stuff of fantasy and most educated people in Scotland see it for exactly what it is.
