I'm going with the Thetford..... big for me is the height. Osteo-Arthritis is now a challenge so not needing to crouch as low will be easier. I've been thinking about getting a portable toilet for my van for a while now. I've been using the old trusty method of the bucket with snap on toilet seat. Where do you empty the tank when you need to? I would think it's more easy to dispose of a bag with some kitty litter in a dumpster.

How reliable is an electric pump when compared to the manual pump? Is the backup plan to just get a cup of water and pour it in there instead? And a spray bottle of some sort? Great video. Thanks for sharing.

The Camco has worked perfect in 3 outings for my disabled wife. I really don't have any experience with a porta potty as I'd much rather go and take a "Desert Dump" lol.

The only problem with the Thetford is the cost. Its almost twice the cost of the Camco. I do like the height of the Thetford. Having bad knees its always a plus when the toilet isn't 12 inches off the ground. Great review.

I like the camco better because of the manual pump. I wish it had a floor mount available like the thetford. I also wish it had a hose adapter to fit the portable RV travel dump tank Camco sells.

Hello there...The "electric flusher" are merely 5 or6 AA batteries under the blue push button to flush. It would just require changing the batteries and wa-la the "electric flusher"' is back !!!!

I personally have not had great luck with Thetford products. Some of the internal parts are cheaply made. Had a campa potti that failed in less than a year. Wouldn’t pump...Their customer service is lacking too. Basically a “No longer our problem “ type situation with warranty claims.. so I bought a Camco.

We have the Thetford Curve and love it. The only complaint is the ridiculous cost of the electric flush mechanism. The batteries leaked and ruined mine, and considering the cost it just made sense to buy an entire new toilet and have two cassettes. But I don't need three cassettes and shouldn't feel it is necessary to buy another toilet every time a pump fails. There should also be a pump-type flush conversion available in the U.S.. Hey, Thetford, It appears there is a pump option in some other countries, so why not here?

So what was the results on which is better?

the Thetford curve electric motor broke on me after 2 seasons of use, the toilet cost me $185 dollars when I tried to get a replacement motor and found out it cost $135 dollars, I threw the whole toilet out, never get a motorize portable again.

The Camcos are a lot cheaper than the Thetfords.

A big problem with the Thetford is the electric water pump, because when fails, has to be replaced it and the total cost is higher than the cost of a new one. If you check the reviews from Thetford users in amazon you will notice this problem

Where do you dump? The taller one is comparable in size to a handicap toilet, and it is 150% more comfortable!

On this video, it seems like you were leaning more towards the Thetford because of the height, the deeper bowl, the easier lid latch release, the floor plate and also because you already had the Camco and decided to get a Thetford. You also chose to get the Thetford 565E with the electric flush even though they have several others including the 565P that has a manual pump. I heard the electric pump stops working pretty often but can be easily converted to a direct replacement manual pump but it's not sold in America and its almost impossible to find except in UK, Germany and Europe. And even if you do find one, they charge 3x what its worth and they may still decide not to ship it. But I'm about to get the Thetford myself and take a risk on the Electric pump.

Perhaps next go around you could script some of what you want to say beforehand. That way you won’t be hesitating or at a loss for words and descriptors when describing the toilets functions, parts and pieces. It was an ok review but it was painfully obvious that the Camco toilet’s valve and the Thetford’s toilet paper holder both extend outwards by the same distance roughly. No need to mention the Camco requires more side clearance as they’re both the same.

All of these are designed to simulate a house flush toilet. Wrong approach. A portable toilet should be designed as a dry system where the waste is collected in an absorbent dry bag that is then folded and discarded. No water no mess, just some minor chemicals to control the odors in a dry throw away bag. I have built my own in this manner and works just fine.
