Protests gripped the Kenyan capital of Nairobi on Tuesday (July 2), as demonstrators expressing their outrage against proposed tax hikes, resorted to displays involving empty coffins calling for an end to the police's excessive use of force. These coffins were later removed by the police.
The demonstrations began as an online outcry against nearly $2.7 billion of tax increases outlined in a proposed finance bill, but have since evolved into a nationwide crusade against corruption and what Kenyans call poor governance.
