So really, what you just did in that moment is flash light into the eyes of an animal that is probably hyper sensitive to light and piss it off very much

I hate jumpscares, I think they're a cheap and unearned way to mass produce scary moments in something, but MAN the jumpscare at the end of this game is absolutely amazing

The sub's camera is one of the most brilliant and effective horror mechanics I’ve ever seen. You don’t just get to see what's in front of you. No, you have to consciously _choose_ to see it. You have to turn your back to the only light source in that deathtrap and walk over there. You have to sit in near-total darkness with nothing but your own imagination and wait.

"Hope is as illusory as starlight" You know what's awesomely terrifying about that line? In a universe where stars literally disappeared, you'd still see the stars in the sky, because how long it takes for light to travel the vastness of space. The light of stars that no longer exist. If Sun disappeared, we wouldn't know it for 8 minutes.

I feel like everybody's forgetting the most important question: how is there a fish monster thing in an ocean of blood? How is it even alive? Is it even a organic organism? Or is it mechanical?

19:38 Funnily enough, the way your disposition shifts from curious, maybe even a little angry-sounding shock to quiet and almost disbelieving with the only word you can manage to say being "Fuck" in response to the massive eye being shown on the camera feels unerringly accurate to the way a person would react to that exact situation in real life. It's like all the air is sucked out of you, and in that one moment, that single stretch of time, there's not even enough left of you to scream. Like a sinking, hopeless feeling in your stomach as you realize just what you've gotten yourself into, and how there's no way for you to get out. Just "fuck."

The horror of taking the pictures is really intense since i expect one of them to be somewhat of a jumpscare

Fun fact: You could actually see out the porthole if it wasn't covered, the entire map isn't just rendered by the pictures, but is actually right in front of you, with a little modding you can remove the porthole and move through the map with a realtime view of what's ahead of you, it ruins the experience for a first time play through, but it's great for exploring the map for secrets and to analyze things

I’m going to buy a logictech controller and seal my self in a Pringles can for the full experience

The fire starting in the cabin is my favorite scare in this game. It's not given any sort of alarm like the other hazards or your oxygen depleting, it relies entirely on you realizing that there is an unfamiliar sound behind you, and that it's something gone terribly wrong. Then it never happens again, but for the rest of your time with the game you'll be looking over your shoulder out of paranoia to see if another fire started without you noticing.

Ahhh yes, the "Truly visceral feeling of being in a tight space, but also submersed in strange liquid, not being able to see anything clearly, being hunted by an unknown, otherworldly entity, being among the last survivors of your species lost in space with no recourse or way to rectify it *_AND_* being threatening to be set on fire every other minute" simulator. My favorite genre.

When you beat Iron Lung enough times and you get the Golden Lung

My best friend talked me into playing this game blind after she'd completed it, and she got some free entertainment out of my reactions as I went through the game. This was such a ridiculously tense game for what it is!

This would make a legendary arcade machine. Imagine it, you go inside of it and play the game normally but in the physical space of the sub as a machine with buttons and immersive sound/rocking.

This whole game is basically just build up to one big jumpscare and yet its one of my favourite horror games ever

This game popped up in my mind when they talked about ocean gate

The fact that the game carried a save system despite being beatable in a single play session, makes me wonder if there are more secrets or endings in the game that require long play sessions.

This game is a fucking masterpiece of suspense. The fact that to even see, you have to run to the camera and wait for a photo. While the photo prints, you get a horrible sense of dread. It's amazing.

You know one of the things that creeped me out the most? Watching the x/y numbers get bigger, knowing that there was probably a terrifying end the higher those numbers got.

After this whole Oceangate fiasco. It really shows the true horror of underwater exploration. THE PRESSURE! The constant threat of a catastrophic implosion because of the unpredictable nature of deep waters is a lot more terrifying then anything in this game.

Iron Lung is genius. The fact that you can't see out the front window makes the game 100x scarier. The delay in of the picture taking, the awful noises of creatures lurking around and the sounds of your own submarine all try as hard as possible to scare the living moonlights out of you

I remember at the 19:44 jumpscare I stood in silent shock for a few seconds. At that point I hadn’t been properly scared but this properly took me by surprise. I’m amazed with how this game doesn’t really have jump scares per se, but rather has moments where a cold dread washes over you as you realise something, that speak for themselves.

Dude, we watched this video yesterday, THE DAY RIGHT BEFORE the Titanic situation. Bringin an extra dimension to the horror there.

2:15 is so ironic considering recent events

This is “slow dread” horror. Most horror games have jump scares and you have to rush to get something done. In this game you really just have a mission that seems to drag on with nothing exciting, but it still freaks the crap out of you

Sometimes, the horror genre needs a refreshing dose of simplicity.

Iron Lung gives me the sense that something out there in or beyond the wider universe of the game hates humanity. While you're down there, you have this entity's full and individual attention.

The images do it for me, the mysterious buildings and mysteries that will never be solved, simply because there is no answer. It's great and thought provoking

The sudden position change was so clever, terrifying and unnerving all at the same time. It's something that doesn't sound like it would be creepy but it just hits right at the moment you start to feel comfortable that it's completely sickening. Amazing ❤

That's a point, if all the stars disappeared, it would be aeons before you'd even know it wasn't just a local event. Hell it would be eight minutes before we even noticed the sun was gone. The creepiest thing would be watching stars at a similar distance blinking out, as if a Christmas tree started loosing it's bulbs one by one

The structures genuinely caught me off guard, I was expecting sea monsters, but buildings?

This game perfectly captures the feeling dread and hopelessness being stuck inside an old rusty sub beneath the pitch black depths of the red ocean in an alien planet.

This game would be perfect for VR. Think about it: Small play space? Yes Simple game mechanics? Yes Old graphics? Yes Atmosphere that makes you sh!t your pant? Yes

Some of the images are grainy enough to where you start to see little ghostly faces, and I think that's so clever. They are trying to simulate madness, you are alone. Your brain will see things that are not there so it can recover from asocial experiences. But it just makes it worse.

iron lung made me realize how claustrophobic i really am, i feel like i can't breathe just watching others play it, let alone with the concept of being welded in and stuck at the bottom of an ocean. really combines all of my biggest fears with the massive ocean and dying universe too ':) maybe thats just me tho lmao

The fish at 15:00 was the same fish that broke through his sub at the end. Which leads me to think it saw you, it saw the flash of camera and knew that you saw it. Once you started moving again it then went to hunt you down

This game me me realize I’m more likely to slap the photo button than to actually move myself out of possible danger.

That first major unsettling fish picture and you think “Oh… maybe it’s some remains… hopefully.” And you take the same picture and it’s fucking gone! I love this, I’m subbing.

This really reminds me of that psychological horror game where you are in a cell (that turns out to be an elevator) and you are some uninfected prisoner in a world wide plague that causes total organ failure and you can only receive letters, and play some DS games. It had me questioning my humanity at the end tbh. Edit: if anyone remembers it's name please comment it, also to it's prequel if you know

This predator starts chasing the submarine and starts beating it around. 20:28 Here, in the finale, you can clearly see a green monster with three eyes and a giant mouth. Resembling a lot the monster seen in the photo before. 18:57 These sources of light might be some still functioning portals made by a long extinct alien race, this explains what those strange sunken buildings are, and those strange jumps the submarine take along the map... OR those jumps are the effects of the giant creature dragging the submarine around with its mouth, damaging the structure and finally breaking it, and those lights are just some unexplainable alien anomalies.

I'm fairly certain this would classify as Lovecraftian Horror. Consider: an alien world, deep beneath the surface of a liquid - blood or water, it's the depth that matters. Unnatural structures, seeming to be wrapped beneath the churning weight of billions of gallons of blood. Something fishlike, smart enough to recognize a metal contraption as prey, swimming about, stalking you. And a dying universe, filled with people lost to their own existentialism, fleetingly clinging to hope with the fervor of a madman.

I don't play horror games, but your videos about them are very good. They let me live the spooks out vicariously without the, for me, overwhelming and unpleasant intensity of actually being the one in control.

I already watched this video in full. I was recommended this for a SECOND TIME, guess why? Because there is a submarine accident in the news. What a joke.

Man, that last scare got me so good. Going through the final tunnel, realising that the blood wasn't just rising, but rising _fast_ , going as fast as I possibly could in a clunky, slow, metal death box, trying not to hit walls, praying to god that I could still _see_ the console to change my angle when I got to the destination. When I finally got all the co-ordinates in, I actually paused before turning around, because I was so very certain that _someone_ or _something_ was going to be in the camera room. I turned with gritted teeth. I had a small sense of relief. Took one step forward. And exploded into screaming and stressed laughter when the jump came. Fantastic experience

I don't know if they will update this but this is already really good with amazing cosmic horror elements. It's absolutely brilliant. Major props to the creator

16:38 Yes, that is one of the coolest moments! The hull being struck masks the fact that you're basically being teleported further ahead. I genuinely needed a minute or two to re-orient myself when I played. When it happens again later it actually makes your life easier by skipping a tight turn through a narrow corridor.
