The assumption is that Quill is the primary protagonist of the Guardians films, I’m now inclined to think it’s actually Rocket. All of these characters have outstanding journeys and character development but watching Rocket grow and change is cathartic and honestly beautiful

Yeah i think its really interesting because peter is STRUCTURALLY the protagonist of each individual film. But Rocket is heart of the franchise and his growth encapsulates the overall themes of Guardians of the Galaxy

@@TheWritersBlockOfficial the way I would phrase it is that Quill is the POV character, he is the one we as the audience first see and begin to understand and empathise with, and he has his own arc throughout the films, all of the guardians do, but Rocket especially, as you say he really is the heart and soul. I'll be sad if we never get anymore from these characters but they've also been left in a place that I'm perfectly content for that to be it

I watched everything with the Guardians in it just before seeing Volume 3, and man, the journey all of these characters go on over the course of the past 9 years is crazy. A bunch of losers that lost things becoming heroes, becoming a family, and helping each other overcome one another's trauma is so good. And I love the dynamic of Mantis and Drax so much. They play off each other so well, and not to get spoilery about Volume 3 for anyone else reading this, but I think Drax sees Mantis a bit like his daughter, which is why he wants to go with her and protect her when Mantis decides she wants to leave and explore the universe on her own at the end of Volume 3. It's not even unfounded because he says that her innocence reminds him of his daughter, and I like to think that perhaps Mantis is roughly the same age as his daughter would be had she not been killed, or at least his daughter would be a fully grown adult, so Mantis is someone he can protect, like any parent would, even when their child has grown up. Seeing Drax now get to be a father to all these other kids though, to help them grow up in a safe environment on Knowhere, he can find some catharsis and allow Mantis to go on and live her life. Why he didn't feel that way about Baby Groot, I don't know, that's where the theory kind of falls apart because if he was looking for a new child, Groot was right there, but they always have this animosity with one another in Volume 2 until the very end. Maybe Drax is also just a girldad through and through because I don't recall many boys in the children that were rescued off the High Evolutionary's ship. But anyway, Drax and Mantis; I love them on screen together.

I also think groot is kind of a menace in 2. Like not in a malicious way. But hes chaotic and a goofball. Most of draxs issues with him seem to be when groom is being goofy. I think mantis connecting with drax in two reminds him that its ok to be goofy and innocent. So I think you're explanation of his relationship ship with mantis actually alligns with vol 2 groot quite well

Hey I've been working on an edit and missed this comment when you first posted it. This sincerely means a great deal to me. Im working on how to best deliver meaningful analysis while also optimizing for youtubes algorithm, and needless to say its a very inconsistent journey. Im in it for the long haul but I'd be lying if I said I didn't get hit with waves of doubt or insecurity. Comments like this really give me the motivation to keep at it, as my objective is first and foremost to build a community of people dedicated to thinking more deeply about the art we consume. I'm glad it helped in some way! We sadly live in a world where it's a lot easier to criticize something than to give compliments. So I'm always praising artists and creators who truly who put their love into their work, and yours is no different. Having doubts is completely understandable, but I'm glad you're not giving up. Your channel has a lot of potential and promise and I'm sure it'll grow a lot! I'm looking forward to see what else you'll be cooking. :)

My computer won't show me what the emoji is so the ambiguity of this statement is hilarious! My guess is tears, cause that was my reaction at least. The amount of different types of crying (joy, sorrow, laughter) that film induced was near infinite. It's movies like this that Make Martin Scorcesse's view on what is or isn't cinema feel just SO out of touch (not to mention gatekeeping like that is a bad look in general)
@katherinealvarez9216

@@TheWritersBlockOfficial yeah, the emoji is the smile with teary eyed one. My apologies. I love how this movie and the GotG ended overall. They're all in a better place than when the journey began. They are still healing and growing but they have support and friends and family and home! Even the new Gamora is in a happier place, finding a home with the Ravengers, a better relationship with her sister and opening the door to a relationship with the others. And Rocket is the new captain. I love it. And yes, I mean, I know Scorsese doesn't a feud with Marvel- he doesn't care about these movies, that's fine. But saying they're not cinema? What does that even mean? And finally, I really do want people to stop asking him about Marvel movies.

great video essay as always regarding the MCU. Rocket and Nebula are my favorite Guardians. Also it's justifiable you leave Rocket out in this video cause Vol. 3 just came out and that film was Rocket's film. Definitely in another video to talk about Rocket. Also how you talk about Drax made me realize that he and Carol Danvers are alike on how they express their emotions. You highlighting Drax's way of expressing his emotions also made me realize just how unlucky Carol Danvers was going through on how she was introduced in the MCU. I didn't really connect with Drax cause of how he is just as how I didn't connect with Carol Danvers in her solo film, but because this was in a team film, I didn't really notice and was already invested with the other Guardians and he had the luxury of Mantis to be able to see how Drax truly feels deep down despite being too stoic and coming off emotionless outside of just laugh and rage. Meanwhile, Carol Danvers only made her introduction in the MCU at a VERY LATE time and given her own struggle, it's difficult to connect with her given the way she behaved (not really showing emotions and just almost always looking stoic) due to what she went through as a amnesiac and battle hardened Kree. Since she was the latecomer in the Infinity Saga, which was already coming to a conclusion, and she didn't have the luxury of Mantis to reveal her true emotions on her struggle as well as it was a solo film and not a team film, Carol Danvers made a very awkward and not an easy to connect with impression, her film and character suffered due to circumstances. I don't necessarily like her now (hell I don't really like Drax as much either tbf), but I have a way better understanding of her character now especially thanks to Drax and I hope her sequel, The Marvels, will turn out way better than her first film (especially with Monica Rambeau and Kamala Khan teaming up with her this time around). As for more different character video essays, particularly in the MCU, I think it would be awesome for you to cover: - Moon Knight: just from only the show there's a lot to unpack, especially with the title character and how out of the new characters that were introduced in Phase 4, the Moon Knight system (Marc, Steven, and Jake) is the best new character that we got in Phase 4 - Scarlet Witch: her journey from Age of Ultron to Multiverse of Madness is chaotic & her story is an antithesis of Thor's story from Thor 1 to Love and Thunder - Iron Man: Especially with you having covered Steve Rogers, would be cool to see his journey from an insensitive and arrogant billionaire playboy in Iron Man 1 to a more mature, selfless and empathic person he has died being in Endgame

A) id love to break down the characters. B) thats a great point about carol Danvers. I think it also has to do with the first film having a bad amnesia plot. It essentually makes it so she doesnt really have a defined personality for for much of the film. Whereas even the little snippets of her in endgame or the post credits of shang chi really seem to have begun to flesh her out. Very excited for the freaky friday esque shenanigans of the Marvel's and really hope to see her get more developed like drax. I think on a meta level writing stoic women is tricky because I think writers get worried about stereotypes or how "stoic" for women often gets interpeted as "rude" because of societal double standards. Now that there are far more fleshed out women leads in the mcu, i think they're gonna be more free to write Danvers as honestly as the narrative requires

@The Writer's Block yeah, that's exactly the problem with Captain Marvel and I hope The Marvels will be able to fix the issue with her, especially again, with Ms. Marvel and Monica Rambeau joining the mix with her. It's most especially that The Marvels actually now display style and personality, which was missing in Captain Marvel. Also yeah, I really hope you'd do those videos, ESPECIALLY for Moon Knight given how great he was and been waiting to see more in the future.

@The Writer's Block ikr Same here I love Moon Knight & Oscar Isaac ever since (read a good bunch of Moon Knight comics, particularly Lemire, Ellis, & MacKay, & watch a lot of Oscar Isaac's works: Inside Llewyn Davis, Two Faces of January, and Scenes from a Marriage are among my favs of Oscar Isaac's works. Star Wars fumbled & wasted Oscar Isaac so badly in the Star Wars sequel trilogy & Marvel basically gave Star Wars the middle finger with Moon Knight for not really giving Oscar a chance to full use of his acting) And given all the craziness happening in the current saga, Moon Knight is all I want to see. Really love story arc with Marc & Steven and the themes & issues the show tackled. WandaVision used to be my favorite MCU show until Moon Knight came.
