It´s finally happening! Warner Bros. and Fathom Events are bringing the Lord of the Rings trilogy back to theaters in June 2024, featuring a never-before-seen 4K Ultra HD remaster version. This remastered version, originally released on Blu-ray in 2020, underwent significant enhancements, including a different grading and scanning of the original physical film to enlarge it into 4K. The trilogy will be shown on consecutive days, with "The Fellowship of the Ring" on June 8th, "The Two Towers" on June 9th, and "The Return of the King" on June 10th. While the screenings are announced for theaters in the US, such as AMC, Cinemark, and Regal, the possibility of international releases remains open, sparking hope for fans worldwide.

Completely agree. Hollywood, Netflix, Disney... all have put out movies that I wouldn't play for my dog, much less a human being. Angel Studios is about the only company putting out decent stuff these days.

0:38 Actually they never re-scanned the original film, this is a misconception as I understand it. What they did is they took the HD extended edition from 2011 and upscaled it to 4K. This becomes quite obvious once you take a closer look at the 4K version; as all of the exposure problems that appear in the extended version (but NOT in the HD theatrical ed.) also appear exactly the same way in the 4K version, something which wouldn't be the case if it was a re-scan of the original film. (Learned this from Jesse Tribble's video on it)

I had turned 12 when the Fellowship released, and my god was that a perfect age, old enough to understand the themes, young enough to marvel at the fantasy. Hope to see the theaters sold out!

Lucky United States. South Australia is a backwater when it comes to these sorts of events. I only found out about it from my recent trip to NZ where I visited all things Lord of the Rings. Re-showing the three films including the extra footage at certain cinemas was kept quite secret and was definitely happening in NZ in June sometime but our holiday ended in May. Would loved to have seen them again on the big screen complete with extra footage.

It's here in the USA at 4 pm. I was so upset because i have to work and then the only theatres showing it are all an hour away. I cannot get there and its such a limited showing....

Lord of the Rings returning to cinemas is NEVER a bad thing. BUT! They did NOT rescan the original negatives for the 4K re-release. It’s actually a quite controversial release, still not having the correct color grading from the original release back in the day. Maybe do a disclaimer and edit the description?

I am waiting for the 8k version to be released at the cinema. 4k is to small an upgrade for a huge cinema screen. I saw them at the Cinema back in the day. Everybody has 4k home nowadays, so streaming it will bring more cash.

They did not rescan the negatives, that is false information. The color grading has been tweaked, but using the original Extended Cut DVD release and upscaled to 4K.

Ya know I love lotr, watch fellowship at least once a week. But I'm not certain I wanna go see it in theaters, again. Saw it like 3 times when it first came out, plus at a theater I can't get high, can't pause to pee, there'll be people there. Watching at home sounds much less stressful
