Here's Mario Mckinney (Vashon) going up against NC State commit Jericole Hellems (Chaminade) in a powerhouse showdown that's been finally set up after 5 years worth of waiting. This is the game that everyone has been waiting for and after years of talking back and forth, exchanging comments on social media about which school were scared to play one another or which schools back out multiple times from negotiating, both parties have made an agreement and gave the city and county what they wanted to see.
Both squad came into the match ready to play as every minute of the game was a close score but when it came into the fourth quarter, The (Class 5) Chaminade never trailed against the (Class 4) Vashon Wolverines. Chaminade Red Devils got all the help from junior guard Keyyaun Batchman who scored 19 points and had six rebounds. Kasubke finished with 16 points and hit four 3-pointers. Senior point guard Jadis White had 11 points, five rebounds, six assists, two steals and two blocks and the NC State commit Jericole Hellems led the team with 24 points, 12 rebounds and three blocks.
The two-time defending Class 4 state champions led at halftime 34-30 but couldn't find their rhythm going into the 2nd half but didn't give up their momentum with the help of their sophomore point guard Phillip Russel firing up the crowd with 6 three pointers and had the chance to tie the game but unfortunately the shot didn't fall through. Phillip Russel led the team with 24 points, Mario Mckinney finished with 18 points, 4 assists, and Cam'Ron Fletcher with 9 points, 11 rebounds, and 5 blocks.
Final Score 77-74 Chaminade over Vashon.
