it always interests me when Simon looks at these things from an accounting perspective, talking about how FFP operates, how they'll generate more profit, how players values will amortise. It goes over the other pundits heads because they're too focused on talking about the same generic rubbish about the takeover that has no substance.

Hasn't been a happy 14 years for Ashley? Oh, poor guy. You neglect to mention that he didn't want us in Europe because he wouldn't be allowed to advertise Sports Direct for free. He also didn't want to pay for flights for the team. That's not just neglect, it's sabotage. You talk about the sustainability of the club but he promised that the club would be free to spend every penny the club generated, but he pocketed most of it That said, credit to Ashley for keeping us debt free because FFP won't hold us back for 3 years

It makes no sense to start off like that, FFP out of the window for 3 years, plus as we’ve seen with Chelsea, Man City and PSG…the owners will spend money big in the first couple of years, will want quick success and to increase the size of the club commercially ..in the hope that in a few years time, they will not have to pump as much in anymore and the club become self sufficient..like Chelsea for example, Man City will reach self sufficiency in the next 5 years too. It literally makes no business or football sense to start off slow with some bit part signings

Happy for Newcastle fans even tho it will prob result in less success for my Liverpool, however it will take a lot of years for them to break into any top 4. i think the frustrating thing as a Newcastle supporter was the constant shadow leading also. Ashley would'nt back Keegan got us relegated then backed Houghton or Pardew with something like 100m a year or 2 after. we created a decent squad got 6th, and ashley started forcing players out the door, Carrol,Ba,Cabaye,Townsend and signing someone like Xisco. and even after that disaster, he does it again. forcing Rafa out the door with Perez and getting Joelinton.

Yes but nobody would want to go and play in the championship. Even players playing for Norwich (bottom team in the Prem) would turn down the move. If you get relegated to the championship you have to rely on the crap that stayed with you with your relegation from the premiership, and perhaps some youngsters (depending on how good the academy is). Sure they’ll go straight back up, but then you have to rebuild again all from scratch.

Talk of Gerrard being front runner for the soon to be available head coaches position !! Would Gerrard even go to anyone other than Liverpool in the English top flight? Would Gerrard actually accept a position knowing he would automatically become a rival of his beloved Liverpool?! Would that other club’s ambitions and financial position ect even come into Gerrards thoughts? I’m very doubtful! Also, how long will any new manager get to build and develop a team and a specific style ect when ultimately, most likely being force fed mega money new players on massive wages ect. Thus inevitably piling on so much pressure to succeed very quickly! I’m not so sure. I’m not so sure many managers of great stature will see this job as being appealing as many may think. And as I mentioned… will any management team truly get full control over who comes in and who ultimately makes up a new starting 11 in the next few transfer windows? And not just that…. How do Newcastle fc swing certain spending with current financial fair play rules ect. It’s not as it was when Chelsea got taken over or Manchester City. Or even West Ham…. It’s so so much different now. Can Newcastle sell much of the players they have atm within a short time scale and bring in 4/5 hundred million. Even 2/3 hundred million. Can they? Who do they have worth over 30/40 million that’s also on a few hundred grand a week??! Not one! Yet they would need to sell atleast 5 to reinvest based on their financial fair play standings. Maybe Thts why the likes of Steven Gerrard are being touted. Because it’s going to be a slow rebuilding process and not the Chelsea style revamp a lot of their fans are praying for. Ps. Maybe if so… rangers will at last receive a genuine transfer offer from a real club for Alfredo Morelos lol it’s a given that he goes with Gerrard… Nathan Patterson and glen kamara aswell. He rates them all very highly.
