For some reason seeing Gyarados flying around like that looks strangely natural. Cause there are some dragons or dragon-like beings known to take flight without wings.

I literally came across this same Gyarados today and was like wait, WHAT???

Gyarados has always been associated with water so seeing it flying especially high up like that was incredibly the first time I saw it.

It is a flying type!

I like that this line works better in memes than the source material.

Yup, they always could! Pretty sure there were one or two cases in the older anime/movies where gyrados was flying. Might be misremembering, though. Been a long time.

The flying Gyarados could’ve easily flown to Jubilife Village to go rampage and eat the sh*t out of all villagers

I never thought there would be a day that a Gyarados flies in the air on its own because even though it's part flying type, it's always associated in water. Now I want to see it fly in the anime.

That is bizarre to see. Is there any other visual instance we see Gyarados actually flying? I think he was only given that typing because asian dragons like to "swim" through the air, despite Gyarados never actually flying in the shows or movies.

And to think I had to put up with *bounce* as the only viable flying STAB for this beast when they had a suitable HM up its sleeve all this time...

I feel like if gyarados were real they would stay in the water most of the time and only fly if their food source/clean water ran out or for better breeding grounds.

Gyrados flying is scary to think about. They're always shown to be angry, but its rage being limited only to bodies of water didn't seem so bad. Given the myth it's based on and the flying type it has. I just thought gyrados could jump super high...

Then Why doesn't GF give Gyarados the move Fly in pervious games!? (it's part Flying type, the Rest of the Reference it Right Frickin there!!!.... it took PLA to acknowledge this).

I just got to this part in the game, and I am so proud of Gamefreak for letting Gyarados get his (invisible) wings. 🥳

Well, i mean, if a sneak like Dragonair can fly without using any psychic ability, or a shark like Garchomp... Or if some pokemon can use any punch move without any fist...

For those who don't know, the reason Gyarados can fly and has always been a flying type is because he's based on those Japanese festival paper maches, which are either flown as kites or put up on sticks and made to look like they're flying during matsuris.

This is actually logical. It is a flying type. It was one of the few Pokémon that could participate in sky battles in Gen 6 Plus it was based on those Chinese dragons.

They’ve always been able to fly to be fair.

I saw a weird worm on a string wiggling through the air at a distance and just had to investigate. Super happy with the results that Gyrados can finally be true to they're flavor text and design inspiration.

It's only shown twice that Gyarados can fly. First in the pokemon XY manga(not sure if that counts) and in Legends hilariously.

I guess I just didn’t have enough experience seeing garados in the water because when I saw this it made total sense, I mean it has half flying type and flies in it’s battle animations, although the second point is kinda mute because most fish Pokémon do that. Still it really didn’t surprise me to see it.

Hisui is so dangerous that a flying Gyarados is the least of your worries.

I know this is a bit of a joke about the programmers probably messing up with Gyarados flying in this game, but considering how this game takes place in the past, it kinda also implies that Gyarados in the past had the ability to fly but then lost it in present day. That, or it's just falling really, really slowly. It can learn Bounce in a lot of main series games.

In Pokemon battles he's always levitating above ground, like in every game.

Use Splash 10 times. Nothing will happen. Use it 100 times. You will become proficient at it. Use it 1k times. It's good to be up there. Use it 10k times. Why bother go down?

So while we‘re discussing this topic: Why the hell does Geodude float? It’s been like that since Stadium, so we can’t fault Gen 6 for this one, but has anyone ever pointed out how freaking weird that is? Like, Alolan Geodude I get, it‘s magnetic, but Kanto Geodude literally has Dex entries saying how it climbs mountains using its arms and only its arms. Gen 5 had it sitting on the ground hopping. Similarly, Roark‘s Geodude in the Anime didn’t just float around and actually used its arms to propel itself forward during the gym battle. Brock‘s Geodude on the other hand always casually levitated for no reason. What the hell is up with that?

Tbf this makes more sense than fish pokémon levitating during battle.

Finally the Flying-type is justified

Finally that Flying type sees the light of day outside of the 4x weakness to Electric.

This is not good to the world building. Not because Gyrados can fly but the implication that some powerful angry Pokemon can fly over village and destroy them while the village have no air defense , yeah, wooden walls can't prevent monsters that flys over them who would have think it, and no one seems to standing guard on guard tower or have bow and arrow by their side No one else seems to have swords or other weapons besides pokeball despite the game telling us that Pokeballs are new inventions and not that many people know how to use them properly

For a few moments it felt incredibly cursed, then i remembered it's a flying type. I must say, the portrayal of pokemon in arceus is quite the step up, justifying both the dex and the typing for quite a bit of them.

Honestly you're better off catching a Magikarp near the dam. Easier and they come in at Lv 19 anyway. Hell they practically swam over to me.

Gyarados and Magikarp are based on two legends. One is a karp jumping over a gate and becoming a dragon The other is a dragon abusinf his draconic powers to do cause destruction, which causes it to lose its powers. (that's why it's not dragon type, i hope they do a regional form that doesn't abuse its powers staying dragon type)

Keep in mind: You could never use the move “Fly” with Gyarados in any of the mainline games. So why should he be able to fly in this game? Gyarados shouldn’t be able to do so as he doesn’t even have wings. Therefore, he never should’ve been a flying type to begin with. Just my personal opinion tho.
