"A 17-year-old Virginia teen was charged with two counts of murder Saturday after he allegedly murdered his girlfriend’s parents.
Scott Fricker, 48, and his wife Buckley Kuhn-Fricker, 43, were shot and killed in their home in Reston, Virginia, on Friday according to Fairfax County police. The teenager, who is not named due to his minor status, shot the Frickers after getting into their home. Police indicate that the teen also suffered from a self-inflicted gunshot wound and is currently in critical condition.
The teen was dating the Frickers’ teenage daughter, but the parents pushed the young couple to break up. Kuhn-Fricker’s mother, Janet Kuhn, told ABC 7 that her daughter tried to separate the teens because they considered the boy to be dangerous and a white supremacist.
“They kept a tight eye on her and they disapproved of all the time she was spending with him, hours on the phone,” Kuhn told ABC."

Well, what is mental illness to begin with? Whether something is a mental illness is defined by society. A mental illness does not need to impair a person, as a disease does. Autism is considered a mental illness, but is it an illness? For those who are autistic it is not. It is society that has declared it an illness. A violent nature is a trait which can disrupt a society, thus will only be tolerated to a certain degree. How violent a person is depends on how its brain works. From a non aggressive societies perspective, people with tendencies towards aggressiveness and thus violence might be seen as a mentally ill. Other way around, it is of course as you stated, but it all depends on what we consider to be a mental illness. Someone with the Angleman Syndrome tends to be very docile and extremely nice and always happy. "Mentally ill" people usually don't think that they are mentally ill.

Jae Lynn Isn't there a 3 to 1 gun to person ratio in the US. Why would it be hard to find a gun? That said, if it belongs to the boy's parents then there needs to be further charges as they obviously weren't responsible gun owners. However, it's possible that the boy legally owned it.

His family isn't talking. I think he accessed a gun which belonged to his mother. He certainly brought it with him, when he went visiting to a house he was no longer welcome in. And the deceased peoples daughter let him in. The relationship may not have been quite as over as her parents hoped. I hope it's not an agreed on murder-plot, in which the girl is an accomplice, but it happened in the way something of that sort would.

Mrreciprocat no, I've raised far more teenagers than you and dealt with cult - like BF's and weak daughters. Address the fact, who let him in the home? The daughter opened the door, and sneaked him in. No serious Cop will exclude her not being involved.

Mrreciprocat You are an idiot. The girlfriend let him in the house (i.e., sneaked him in) after the parents made her break up with him, going so far as to stage an intervention. She resented her parents and no doubt knew he had a gun with him. She is complicit in this crime, if not legally then morally.

The Neo Nazi part of this story isn't the most important, IMO. The most telling part is that this dude snapped when his internet life broke his real one. This guy harbored and exuded a set of values and beliefs that were fermented in the internet's many echo chambers. This persona took more and more importance, more room, more brain time and energy before it ever came in contact with the real world. It was a perfect example of freedom (of faith, life style, opinion) without consequences. Then, the online persona seeped out enough to raise attention. The whole system was made public, exposed to the real world, where consequences happen. The subject discovered that there is such a thing as a wrong thing to say to the wrong person in the wrong context. What do you do when the majority of what you perceive as your identity suddenly impacts many aspects of your social life ? What do yo do when one of the consequences means you lose the (maybe) only comfortable, happy and warm relationship you have ? What do you do, when you can clearly identify the people who made your suffering happen ? What do you do, when you are 17 and your girlfriend's parents made your two worlds collide, made you a pariah in your hometown ?

Let’s flip the script of color. Let’s say that the mom doesn’t want her daughter to be with this man because he is black, the outcome is the same that he goes there and kills her parents. He would get the death pen, or life. Even as a minor he would be charged with murder as an adult. There will be no Mental health plea at all.

As far as I know, there haven't been any African-American Neo-Nazi's charged with killing his girlfriend's parents, so I don't think it's really appropriate to compare races here. Seriously, I don't know how old you are or where you live, but just know that not all white people are racist. Because of politics, many African-Americans assume that all white people are racist, when in fact that is simply just not true. Depending on the demographics, many areas of our country are filled with ignorant, misinformed haters, which is truly unfortunate.

J Popa ok let’s flip the script Again! Say a black girl dating a white guy with this kind of content found. Mom finds his racist ways and demand the daughter to not seeing him. The outcome of the murder will be the same as he murders her mother. A mental ward and slap on the wrist would be argued in court. This actually happened in 2012.

We can't just attribute such tragedy to mental illness. Sure mental health can play a part but beliefs have consequences. Beliefs are powerful. They can cause people to act in ways that deviate from normalcy.

shade_grey - yes you can. It goes both ways. I have been called a filthy white bitch by a gang of black schoolgirls just for asking them to offer a seat to an elderly lady on the bus. That was racist abuse, no matter how much you wish to sugar coat it. But you are quite right about where an aggressive ideology can lead to, as history has indeed shown.

If things would have played out differently and if the girl was going off to college and she dumped him, he would have killed her. I feel terrible for this whole family, for the parents losing their lives and for the daughter to have to live with the guilt of being that toxic person into their life.
