I understood exactly what you said and I don't think it's totally useless. If Mexico beat France it will go some way to knocking them out of a tournament they don't deserve to be in. @acsalp I remember the foul by Schumacher on Battiston, I was watching it live when I was a kid. While it was a horrible incident, it didn't actually cost France the game directly whereas Herny's handball did cost Ireland the game and the chance to play at this summer's World Cup. Most of the Irish players will never play in a World Cup again as they will be too old when the next one comes around.
