The first 1000 people who click the link will get 2 free months of Skillshare Premium: skl.sh/jendre Did anything surprise you? I have to say buying a house has been one of the best things I have done, but it's also been draining - I really recommend doing as much research beforehand as you can :D

That's quite interesting. We recently bought a house and I think we were in a similar situation. We were also gifted money from my family who live in Germany. However, my family refused to provide 3 months worth of bank statements because they are very protective of their data. Instead, a letter form the bank was enough, stating that the funds were accumulated in a natural way. We had to provide credit scores but no one asked about anything, no follow up questions and everything was really quick and easy. The one thing I discovered is that the longer I lived in my house, the more I disliked the previous owners because peu a peu I found out about all the things they neglected 😂

Because my daughter is getting married this November but postponed the wedding celebration for a year due to the Coronavirus, she and her fiance’ decided to try to buy a home now. It was a week ago Friday when they called a realtor who assured them, based on income and credit scores, that they were in a positive position to buy. The following Tuesday they found a home in the school catchment area they desired, only 3 miles from where she currently lives,, and put in an offer. The following day the offer was accepted and were told they could expect to move in at the end of August. When she told me what they had done she was alarmingly calm in my opinion. When I asked what made her want to put an offer on this house in particular, she responded that there wasn’t’ anything about it that she didn’t like. Today’s video couldn’t come at a better time to share with my daughter. Thank you!

Thanks for sharing your experience. I recently bought a new built flat didn't have to deal with repairs and will be aware of the cost for repairs when I buy a house :). I can relate to the anti money laundry check, they couldn't make sense of the bank account history but luckily my parents recently sold a property and we gave the proof to them and it satisfy the requirement, so yeah that can be something that to be used to satisfy the requirements to avoid the trouble of going through an entire interrogation if anyone is going through this.

Dad was a carpenter and made a cupboard base unit in our living room there was a small in fill hole 3" x 4" the main part was completed in 1957 or 58, he died in 1989 and never completed that project: so Jen there is always going to be something that needs doing and something you will get around to completing sometime in the dim and distant future, as along as the buckets do not overflow from the leaks don'f worry.

The biggest downer is going into the bank and saying "I'd like to pay off my mortgage" and you feel really happy and the bank manager says "Who is your solicitor".

When you buy a house with a loan it generally stays where it is, so if you cannot afford to pay off the loan the lender knows where the house is and at need can go to court to get it taken away from you to pay back your loan. That does not really work for loans to buy expensive phones or other toys, so such loans make use of credit scores. Beware the man knocking on your door saying he is working on a job nearby and spotted a problem with your roof / gutter / window / drain / fence / paint. I suppose there are such people everywhere, but they are a special hazard to homeowners. My cousin married her builder to solve that problem, but maybe a little knowledge is enough to help you confidently send them away. My first thought on the hair was Princess Leia, but the white face and Japanese pattern dress then suggested a Geisha and I found some images with similar hair style. How wonderful that you have the confidence to be different!

You won't need to replace your roof,.A tiled roof will last a lifetime,the membrane liner deteriorates but can be patched....a new modern membrane range from £50-£200 for 100 metres.The rain gutters are more important on an old house.If the gutter overflows,the damp penetrates the cavity and corodes the wall ties.....a gutter apron will solve that problem......Stop worrying and enjoy your home

Interesting video. Home buying in the UK is not too different from home buying in the USA. They probably did not have to make a big deal about your credit worthiness because, apparently, you have very good credit (Box checked). Enjoy your home and just KEEP CALM AND CARRY ON! (and send your dad a nice Birthday/Christmas gift) Just sayin"....

Hi Jen! Can't believe it's nearly been a year. This video was very helpful 😊 I am worried as I'm currently in the process of buying my house and I have chosen a solicitor who have broken down a lot of their fees and included most things e.g searches etc. As you mentioned that the different fees add up, did your solicitor not account for these additionals and quote you a lump sum? Just interested as I may need to account for a little bit more in case ny solicitor adds more on
@JenDre

Hey Jen 👋 new subbie here! Great video on the topic, I’ve watched quite a lot on this topic and have never heard anyone emphasise the bank statement checks as much as you - so a big thank you to you 😁. I wanted to ask, re: checks on your past 3 months worth of bank statements - were you requested to provide 3 months worth from more than 1 of the banks that you were with? And did they only look at transactions within those 3 statements? Thanks again! 🙌
@JenDre
@JenDre 4 жыл бұрын
Hey - so im not really with another bank so not sure but I'd guess you'd have to declare all your active accounts if you use them. If you transfer from bank a to bank b they would see it anyway! Yes for me they looked only at the previous 3 months.

So happy you're making more videos again Jen! Wow that money laundring thing got me worried! I'm French and have been living in the UK for 3 years, hoping to get a house next year (fingers & toes crossed) and I was counting on the money I have in my French bank account to use toward the deposit, but it is just basically gifted money from the last two decades for birthdays, Xmas ... So know I'm wondering if they are gonna think I'm some sort of drug lord if I retrieve that money and use it for a house ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

3:34- actually its incorrect you do get checked and have been checked the fact you got the mortgage means you passed the credit score
@JenDre
@JenDre 4 жыл бұрын
oh yeah like I say in the video I am sure I got checked, it just literally never came up or was the topic of any conversation I had - not with the IFA, solicitor, estate agent or the bank. And before I was under the impression it would be a huge part of getting a mortgage, yet it really didn't come up. Like I also explained in my video about how I bought a house, when I got my mortgage I was on a fixed term contract, newly out of being unemployed.

you don't own it until the mortgage is paid off - don't fool yourself, if you lose your job, can't keep up with the repayments and the bank takes it off you then you'll realise you never owned it, thousands experience this every year

If she is young she can find another job easily, plus if you lose your job you have to always pay renting. Living is not free, regardless circumstances. Good to always have savings and you can also rent out your place too.
