Using Griffin Lake State Park as our base, we explored the trails at the park, the Dead River as well as visiting the second largest live oak in the state. There are a number of towns in the area worth taking a look at. The Villages is like Disneyland for seniors, Mount Dora is quaint with interesting shops, and Traverse is home to Wooten Park where sea planes come and go. We also found a couple of great places to walk: Bourlay Historic Nature Park and Venetian Gardens, both in Leesburg. With a number of lakes in the area, this part of Florida is beautiful and worth a stop.
