There’s really no rocket science to shopping for groceries, beyond wondering if you’ll be able to finish a food item before it expires (or worrying that you’ll finish it too soon). Either way, you can always go back.
Shopping at Aldi, however, requires more thought than that. The German supermarket chain has become one of the most popular grocery stores in America, thanks to their amazingly affordable prices and to-the-point shopping experience.
To be able to make the most of what’s offered at Aldi, though, there are some odd-yet-strict rules put in place by the supermarket chain that you have to follow. Here are some things you should stop doing at Aldi.

Aldi pulled a lot their stores out of the poor neighborhoods and built new ones in wealthier neighborhoods and busted their prices. The 25 cent cart deposit use to go to homeless people who are willing to return your cart for you. You don’t have homeless in rich neighborhoods. Aldi had very little shelves mostly shacked cases. If you need a shopping bag, then grab a card board box. For years you can only use cash or food stamps at aldi, not credit cards or checks. I am just disappointed that aldi is no longer the go to store for the poor.

@@dhouse609 its called inflation mate, we aren't a charity. but in fact we still do a lot for charity, any 'waste' items we gather during the day, a lot of the time will go to charity, not gross things of course, but say a tin of beans has got lost from a pack of 4 or something, that tin will just get put into charity waste, it will count as a wasted sale, but still get used by someone who needs it. we also have charity pots at the till in the UK that donate to CancerResearchUK and just before you leave the store there is a big cage bin that you can put any of the items that you have bought in and they will be donated as well. Its really not a store for rich people. we don't target it for rich people, clearly, that's why we have low prices. rich people don't care how much their groceries cost, they just want the best because they can afford it. meanwhile we will sell you 12 packs of water that are missing 2 bottles, or damaged cereal boxes, we sell you items that have the current days date on it, we just give a 30% discount on those items. that way we don't lose as much money cause we still sell the item rather than wasting it even if its still perfectly useable and safe, and you get to save yet more money. happy days for us all. imo as an employee at Aldi, I think we have some of the best customer service of any retailer. from my colleagues who are all really friendly, to our refund policy, if i shopped at Aldi as a customer i couldn't complain about my service because it is all super transparent and we are always happy to answer questions and do as much as we can to make sure you leave the store happy.

I love that you rent the cart, and pay for bags if you forget. A few things I appreciate at Aldi, is their chocolate. (Don't burst my bubble, here.) I think it's made better, because Aldi is a German company? One of the ones I like, has like four ingredients. I also stock up on snacks here, since they're about half what name brands at other stores cost. Their chip dip is really good. I like that they keep fruits in closed bags (or at least they used to) so people can't swipe grapes and eat them in the stores. I've never had bad service at Aldi. NEVER. The workers are busy, but they're also helpful, and friendlier than most. I hope they're getting paid well--they deserve it.

@cariwaldick4898
@cariwaldick4898 Жыл бұрын
@@Alexe829 Hmmm....what store is local? Every store I shop, has products that are shipped in from other countries, like produce from Mexico. Sure, Kroger might be based in the US, but so what? I know for a fact that the CEO makes more in a year than his employees could make if they worked a century. With the growing wealth inequality in this country, that does NOTHING to help the community, because Rodney McMullen likely invests his "earnings" in stocks around the world. Considering how many food companies are actually giant conglomerates, strangling their competition, the only real way to support the economy, and our communities, is to support the employees. I typically shop at WINCO, since it's employee owned. I shop at Aldi, because their business model works, and their employees seem to be satisfied with their jobs. I grew up with the idea to "buy American," and more recently, "shop local," but competition is good for the country. If/when our US based companies see German companies doing it better, they'll raise their game. I don't really feel like I'm supporting the economy, by supporting billion dollar corporations--which is most of our grocery stores, and a lot of our food.

The first time I ever shopped at Aldi I found huge mangos for only 29 cents each. They were Keitt mangos. They weighed about 2 lbs. each. Loved them. I spent 78.00 and the groceries lasted me 2 weeks. The only thing i bought after shopping there was milk since I use a cab and paying for a cab to and back would be silly for a couple of gallons of milk. I've heard that. In the beginning of the pandemic the state of Massachusetts decided not to allow people to bring usable bags in the stores because of their questionable cleanliness by some customers. The executive order also lifted any bands on plastic bags that word affect and it also bans stores from charging 4 paper plastic bags. I think that lasted about two months.

Economically speaking I take issue when anybody tries to correlate reduced firm costs with reduced customer prices. They are completely different functions. The pricing function in economics makes you price each item to maximize store income period. The other function is to minimize costs. When Aldi decides to fire a senior store GM who's work his/her way up and earned a bunch of merit raises for a fresh new inexperienced GM to save $30k a year, do they lower costs? Nope, separate functions.

Not sure if you have those in the US, but you can also use reusable tokens (they are circular with a hole in the center and a hook so you can attach it to your keychain). If they're not sold in ALDI, you might source them elsewhere. It just has to be roughly the same size as a quarter. Here in Germany, all supermarket chains use coins (here, it's the 1 € coin, so that's much worse if it gets lost), and I got myself some tokens many years ago and still use them. If a coin or token gets stuck, make sure you pushed the plug from the follow-up cart all the way in. If the coin/token doesn't pop out, push it back in and try again. If you heard the click that the coin/token was unlocked, and it doesn't pop out, see if you can pull it out. This only rarely ever happened to me, but I always got my token back.

Actually you are wrong but not entirely. One of the reasons why many stores have increased their prices over the years is because having to pay employees to round up carts from a parking lot or collect from bins where customers are supposed to be putting their carts after unloading their purchases into vehicles or having an employee sack the merchandise and push cart to customers’ vehicle and unload cart and return cart back to the store. Now if I go buy something from HEB today will I see a “return cart fee” or something like that on my receipt? No. But before the terrorist Democratic Party ruined our economy more, and they damn sure did, this among other things that are eliminated by ALDI’s shopping design are reasons grocery stores’ prices are higher than at ALDI and Trader Joe’s and similar stores. The cart collection machine that many grocery stores have are not cheap or cheap to maintain. Thus another reason prices at ALDI are lesser usually by using a coin for cart usage but get the coin back once you return the cart.

How many making a point about the coin in the cart. Literally every super market in Europe ever 🤣 I was very very young when carts were free and people would take them occasionally. So very good to use a coin. You don't pay for it and you don't rent it. You unlock it!

i must really live in a special place. seems i try to give the .25 to whoever is finished loading their car w/groceries, seldom is it taken; we all pay it forward; i shop in a poor neighborhood. the people are great, the store is great. as for produce, last week i was in the big shop here in town that i have patronized since 1990, needed cabbage for coleslaw; it was pathetic, so told son: no coleSlaw today, he was out and about and brought home a huge head of cabbage from Aldi's now we have a weeks worth of cabbage for coleslaw and whatever else i can think to make w/cabbage. and for desert he brought ice cream; said he preferred that brand to the other brands available elsewhere. Good prices, courteous people. and excellent food. i really love their Chef's cupboard Clam chowder. sorry i am so wordy, but it needs to be praised.

I never buy meat from aldi. Every time I have I’ve gotten food poisoning. Reminds me of Walmart meat. I don’t know which one has better quality. I got food poisoning from both. I actually think the Walmart food poisoning was less severe. Every other place I’ve bought meat from I’ve had no issues. Just aldi and Walmart meats. Lessons were learned. Pay more for meat at other places it’s worth it

I'll tell you why my daughter's friend worked at Walmart for a while and she told my daughter that she should not buy the meat their because they don't put it back right away so that could be the reason why you are get food poisoning from Walmart and I now know it's true! I didn't believe at first myself until I actually seen it first handed. One day months later after my daughter told me this I went to Walmart when I was checking out someone in front of me put a couple packages of meat and a few other things back from their cart because they over spent and the checkout person just put the meat and the other stuff on the conveyor belt behind them. When I went through and payed for my stuff I remembered I had forgotten a few things so my husband went out to the car with the stuff we brought and I went back in and ended up in the same line 20 minutes late ( this was before self checkout aisles ) and it still was sitting there on the conveyor belt! When I got back to the car I told him to never buy meat their ( thank God I didn't buy any this time ) and told him why! Sorry for being a little long but I just wanted to warn you and anyone else that reads this comment that this does happen so be careful!!!

Romberg several months ago there was a recall on onions about this and, not just at Aldi’s Store! You really have to examine any kind of produce before you buy it, something our mother’s taught us in the 70s. @@sonyafox3271 I couldn't tell by squeezing them smell or weight. Not till I cut them did I see any problem. There was no recall and all bad onions came from one store. Everytime I had this happen I went to grocery , more expensive but right down street, and there was no problem. Grocery stores buy different grade fruits and vegetables. Till the last 10 years I grew almost all of my vegetables so it has been "interesting."

They do to because, I am a disabled person and, no one can go faster than expected and, it isn’t like they are going to knock you down just because, you move a little slower than others. I never had this issue at any Aldi’s that,I shopped at and, only had that issue a couple of times yrs ago. It no longer happens these days. Customers may not like it because, they might have to wait a little bit longer but, it’s common curtesy to be kind, and, tough if they don’t like it.
