Roy Tee. Yep!, they are the best thing that has happened to grocery shopping! I shopped our local store this week & walked out with almost NO food & spent $72. of my $82. budget for the MONTH! At least $1. per item more than Aldi. They say, sometimes, the quantity is less at Aldi...I haven't had a problem there... & sometimes the tiny bit less would be wasted anyway because quantities & prices keep going up or the sizes of items in "other" grocery stores go down (& no one seems to notice), but the price goes up! I could not be happier that shopping at our local Aldi!!!!!! LOL Judie

I sure don't know how anything could be unfresh, there is such a turn over of goods! The blue berries were $1.29 a box at Aldi, at WalMart they were $4.00! & thats not all, everything I buy is at least $1.00 cheaper than any place else, & usually more than that. I went into WalMart & I was shocked to see they had milk & eggs marked as low as Aldi. I went to Aldi anyway because if people copy to get business back I will stick with the store with the lowest prices first!

Thankfully, here in Australia, it is a requirement of shops to label items with a cost breakdown, i.e. how much per 100 grams. This makes comparisons so much easier. But what really REALLY annoys me is the people that complain about having to put the coin ($1.00 or $2.00) into the basket to release it. You can buy a token to do this for 99 cents, but people carry on like they don't get that money back.
@styx53ocean

Almost every grocery or retail store in the United States is required to show unit price and it is smart to pay attention to the price breakdown. That's usually how I shop, especially for paper products. You might think it's cheaper to buy the big pack of toilet paper or paper towels, but that's not always the case.

While Aldi says it is going more organic and non-gmo, be sure to flip the package AND READ THE LABELS ANYWAY. Is it USDA certified? Do the ingredients have issues themselves, like soy, or fillers/stretchers, like corn starch in the yogurt? Silicon coated chips, anyone? Look at ALL labels at any store you shop. Do not let the food companies fool you. Another example: whipped. Why do you think companies push whipped yogurt or cheese spread or whatever it is? Because if you whip air into a product, you are not getting as much product. You are paying for volume (air space), not product. Pretty big scam on their part.

Aldi's is a German owned company which is based on German standards from an operational and consumer standpoint. Their focus is on continuous quality and efficiency improvements which is why they are currently on a massive remodeling of existing stores in the U.S. which includes doubling down on offering more organic products not just because it's healthier but also because of increasing consumer sentiment and demand for healthier foods. Most of the interior store footage appears to have been filmed in Germany due to the German language signage throughout, however general store layout differs very little from U.S. counterparts.

I want you to know, Aldi is the best shopping experience I have had! It out does every other store (I have been to) 100%! If I forget something, they run & get it! They (the service people) are so kind, helpful & nice! When I had a return, it was easier than any return I have ever made...their attitude was outstanding! If a successful Aldi trip takes know-how, then I must have it because I have NEVER had a bad time, or hard time shopping there! I don't think I have been in the store yet that I have not see the service people loading shelves here & there in the store. As far as taking your own bags, a good idea. The waste other stores have using paper & plastic products is terrible, wasteful & unnecessary! If you do forget a bag, sometimes you can find an almost empty box sitting on the shelf to use! Speaking of empty boxes, their shelves are the most organized, cleanest in any store I have been in. I like loading my own take home bags because then my food is in groups that I want them in & only as many items per bag that I prefer! Any shopping takes "know how" not just Aldi shopping! It mostly boils down to knowing what you want & where it is in the store! As far as a 25 cents for a cart.....GOD bless the idea...that bull of carts all over the parking lot is just that...BULL! & once again, people show how great they can be....a lot of the time you can give someone a quarter for their cart they are done with, & sometimes they play "PASS IT ON" by just saying...here just take it & pass it on! A fun thing to experience!!!!! I could go on & on about more wonderful things Aldi is, but for now, this will do! L*O*V*E to Aldi Judie

Unless government forces grocery stores to have locked carts, that will never happen. It's a combination of unions, and the stores themselves not wanting them. For most grocery stores, they're unionized, and unions don't want a job eliminated. For grocery stores themselves, they don't want to spend money on higher quality carts that will stay outside all the time. Then they would have to have permanent cart corrals to lock carts.

VME - Brad....pocket/wallet...your picking at wording. You don't think one of the coin holders that attaches to your key holder is useful? I do, I think I am going to get one. You don't think telling people to bring their own bags is a useful tip? I do, for people that don't know! You don't think that telling people to plan on packing their own groceries, so they will be prepared, is useful? I do! I have yet to be in the Aldi store that their workers arn't busy loading shelves, every day of the week! I have never been in Aldi that their shelves are empty or that they have been out of anything that I am looking for!
@judyjudyjudy9593

VME - Brad....maybe they don't use credit cards, but they do keep all their money on a debit card (which can also be used like a credit card), & a Bridge Card (what food stamp money is now given to people with so some nosy/prejudice people don't recognize that some people have to use food assistance from their State). Needing assistance is nothing to be ashamed of, because many people that get assistance work hard too, just everyone doesn't have high paying jobs. It is people with high paying jobs that are unkind! A Bridge Card is just like a credit card & is used just like a credit card. So even "poor people" or people that don't have credit cards still may not remember to have a quarter on them. If you think Aldi is a lesser quality of food...you are wrong! Aldi works hard to save money so people without a lot of money can eat decent too! Aldi also pays their working staff decent wages. $12.50 to begin with. Aldi works to save money for others not just for themselves! If it makes you feel better keep shopping where food costs you a dollar or two (or more) more (per item) if you can afford it, some people can't or won't. But you are wrong if you act like Aldi food isn't quality food & their prices are good!!!!.

bdog840....price matching, who does that anymore! When I took an ad into a store to "price match" they told me they won't price match the cheaper stores (ie Aldi, Family Dollar, Dollar General, & other discount stores), just the ones that are on their level. Aldi prices in our town is still the best!!!!!! What's more, the attitude of the workers in the "other stores" is changing, I have had them being down right rude! Aldi workers are above & beyond! They pay $12.50 PR to begin with too! You sure don't get that at other stores & at other stores the workers have to stand on their feet all day & some of the department managers make the people under them do their (the dept. mgrs.) work!

We recently had an Aldi open in my town in Scotland (October 2018) and it's my "go to" for my weekly shop and it has almost halved my weekly food bill. I love Aldi. One huge thing that bugs the hell out of me and is sure to drive me out of any shop never to return is music blaring so loud you can't even think. Asda does this another reason I changed to Aldi... life is stressful enough without having to try to cope with an unwanted barrage of noise when your trying to remember what you need to get because you left your shoping list on the coffee table.

The best thing I ever bought at ALdi's was a SOUS VIDE cooker that was marked down to 40 bucks. Interestingly enough, this is often where their best deals are, their household items. Most of their food really isn't the great deal they make it out to be. It's either smaller quantities or lower quality, which is why the price is cheap. But occassionally they will have an item like this that's a really good deal. If you do find an interesting food item at Aldi's often times when you go back, you'll see that item again.

They have to be that fast because they usually only have one, maybe two if it's really crowded, checkout lines in operation. The rest of the employees are busy doing other tasks. They are stretched way too thin. It's all about keeping labor cost to a minimum and that means speed is first priority and customer service is non-existent. I have literally seen them throwing cantaloupes into their bins as if they were baseballs. That's why I no longer buy cantaloupes there. If you buy a cantaloupe at Aldi's and the next day, it sudden develops a rotten spot, now you know why. ;) Roger Clemens was fast balling them into the bin!

Been shopping at aldi since I was a kid in Germany. We had an aldi at the last two places we had lived so when they announced one being built here I was happy! Took almost 2 years to open though. Many people that went when they first opened weren’t familiar with their policies. I saw a couple upset because they saw it as a store full of crappy generic items. I told them about the guarantee so they bought some things to try instead of leaving. I recommended to Mac n cheese! Then a man was upset that he had to buy bags so I explained the reasoning behind that and told him they’ll let him use boxes but to bring bags next time. Then I had a guy try to take my cart and he got angry and pushed me down when I said they take quarters to use and explained why. So in the first week they were opened I was amazed at the new products since we had not been near one in almost 10 years.

The best part about Aldi, is that you don't get that ultra depressed feeling from the staff who are dealing with working ultra long shifts on lowest minimum wage possible while walking for miles over the course of a shift on hard surface causing leg and joint pain. At Aldi, they quickly get more staff on register when they need to, let them sit while they check you out, and pay them double what walmart does. Not to mention walmart isn't really the cheapest any more as most local or local chain stores are often cheaper on food. Really the only thing walmart is good for is as a one stop shop for a wide assortment of items at a baseline price.

Just had to make a comment/statement about Aldi. Here in South Australia Aldi has only been trading for about 2 years give or take. They product a mini catalogue every week that promotes item specials + food specials up to 10 days in advance. In general their food prices are slightly lower than Coles or Woolworths, but here’s the catch, they add a percentage on to your bill which is advised above each checkout wether you are paying cash or credit card, depending the type of item on your receipt it will be identified as either a,b, or c!. Then there is usually a GSP fee on the end also. They don’t have personal checkout areas either, so if you have a screaming child having a meltdown at the checkout too bad, you have to put up with it until either you or the child’s?parent are served. The stores are a lot bigger in the advert plus it appears they can sell alcohol which is a no no over here, something to do with adolescents having access. Most prominent was the fact that they don’t have coupons either!.

Aldi is absolutely amazing! They have great quality fruit & vegetables, actually, often the same brands as the 'fancy' grocery stores at a fraction of the price. Their own brands are of high quality as well. It's so much fun to shop at Aldi since they also have clothing, kitchen and decorative items, such as candles, which smell as good as Bath & Body Works. One tip is when you see something in the ad that you want, go on the 1st day of the ad, since bargain items sell out quickly. My food spending is down by 50%! When I used to work at a school near Aldi, I went there almost every day, usually for one or two items. I am an Aldi's Addict!

The walk in isle or first entry to an Aldi here will be filled with Chips of all sorts, candy, and towards the end of the isle condiments, that leads on to the back wall of diary left and small meat section right. next Isle gadgets and breakfast considered items. That isles other side would be canned vegetables. Small section devoted to vegetables, small second devoted to bread, middle section of the store from there is frozen foods. I don't dislike the store chain at all But I have Walmart across the street with comparable prices and much more selection. Aldi at least in this area is probably doing OK but for me picked the wrong area. There are people devoted and my wife does shop there once a week, she is happy but I still have issue with some of the ingredients in the foods. I look at labels and my wife likes to bring home chips, but when I look I say no but thanks. Same could be said for Walmart but I have a larger selection to choose from and get what I want. We live in different worlds I know and my choices go well beyond Walmart here so I have a number more choices then I can express from Mexican markets to on and on. Costco, Sam's list goes on and on. A different world. Read the label and look at your vegetables and when you can buy local. Again thanks.. GB
