In this video, I review both the ThinkPad X230 and X230 tablet, showing off some of the quirks and features of both models while also comparing them to each other and other computers that were sold around the same time, such as 1 year older and younger models.

CPU: I7-3520M
Ram: 16GB, 1600Mhz
SSD: 256gb Sandisk X300 MSATA
The specs of the X230 Tablet
CPU: I5-3320M
Ram 16Gb, 1600Mhz
SSD: 256 LITEON
Both of these devices are running Windows 11 22H2. I know they would run better on Linux, but it's more impressive to see that they are still able to perform most daily tasks on Windows 11, especially considering how bloated Windows is. The lack of cores does make these devices difficult to use while it's doing a Windows update.

I own a modified X230, it's been customized into an "X330" with a BGA-replaced i7-3615QE quad core, a 13.3" WQXGA hi-dpi IPS LCD, and the classic 7-row keyboard. It absolutely lacks in raw performance, energy efficiency, and expandability. But like you say its IBM heritage styling is irresistibly charming, and the modifications certainly enable it to do things a regular X230 would rather not. It replaced my previous daily driver, a regular old i5 dual core T420 upgraded with a QHD IPS LCD which paired with the classic keyboard presented a combination of premium real estate and typing ergonomy unseen since the T60p.

Having both the light and backlit keyboard is the attitude I miss in new tech the most lol

My x230t came with a backlit keyboard. Maybe yours just didn't have that option or a replacement keyboard or something? I'm really hoping that maybe one day I'll squeeze a framework motherboard and IPS FHD screen into my x230t chassis.

@@FR4M3SharmaI haven't figured out how to filter out background noises. I got an expensive samson mic, but when ever I record something it sounds terrible, and all sorts of noises for cars and trucks kept ruining the recording even worse.

@@Duraputer Reduce the Gain of the Mic, if you use Windows then go into the control panel then hardware & devices and open your mic's property to reduce it. You can test the gain level by using the "Listen to device" option that makes the mic output to the speakers of your system. 👍

I always wanted one of these. a old but good and repairable trusty helper. i think some have been retrofitted with full HD screens. maybe i should still try get one :) thanks for a great review :) sound effects starting the ultrabase exquisite :)

the fhd mod requires special kits now only available from aliexpress and requires soldering to the board

Just purchased one on eBay. For 170. I also grabbed a 250 msata for boot up and a 1 tb ssd as well as 16 ddr3 sodium ram. Gonna try to run Linux. Will it work with my touch screen is the question.

I was obsessed with getting one of these for many years because it was one of the first small laptops that would be able to run multiplayer hl2 decently... until I realized I kinda needed a numpad... sad.
