You guys delight me! I love how intentional you are in your relationships, how you admire each other, how much you love and respect your babies, I love how masculine and sensitive you are Andrew, and I love to hear you both laugh. Most of all I love that you honor God. Stay humble and in love-it’s the best gift you will ever give your kids.

I love that Shawn knows herself well enough to weigh the pros and cons of narcotic pain meds for her! That's so healthy and exactly the way medical decisions should be made. I also have a high pain tolerance, so I don't take narcotic pain meds unless OTC stuff isn't cutting it. There's no reason to risk potential side effects and addiction if there's little benefit for you.

So excited for you guys. My marriage crumbled before my eyes quicker then I ever could have imagined. My parents have such an amazing love story and still are going strong almost 34 years later. I love watching you guys, hearing every detail of any story you tell is always fun, and you just seem like an amazing family to know. Congrats on Bear, happy everything went smooth. I understand having a hard pregnancy and birth but I only have one beautiful healthy 10 year old boy and it was all natural. I can't imagine all you have gone through. You have Andrew by your side and it definitely helps when you know you have someone who always has your back no matter what. Pray for you a lot and I always enjoy your content!

omg for one, i cannot express how happy i am for you guys😭 for two, st thomas midtown is the best hospital hands down! my mom was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2019 and all 6 of her surgeries were performed at midtown! all of the nurses are literally the best. and they all celebrated with us after her surgery that declared her cancer free! we live an hour and a half south of nashville and would drive to midtown and their surrounding medical offices at least once a week for almost a year. hands down the best decision we ever made was choosing st thomas midtown!!❤️🙌🏼

My C-section experience was traumatic. They didnt let me do skin to skin, they kicked my husband, baby, and doula out of the OR soon after she was born and I laid there alone for another hour while they finished up. They had her latch wrong and I was injured for weeks. I also only took Tylenol and ibuprofen afterwards. Two weeks ago I got my redemptive home water birth with my second daughter and it was incredible. Recovery has been so much easier! Glad to hear this experience was better for you.

I didn't find out the gender with my third either. My oldest is a girl who's 4 and then my second was a boy who's 2 and we wanted a surprise tiebreaker so we didn't find out. I was so certain it was a girl the entire time I was pregnant to the point of I bought girl stuff, clothes, etc and when my third was born and it was a boy I was shocked and it took me a few days maybe even weeks to get used to it! He's now 9 months and I love him more than anything and I love have one girl (the princess) of the family. Bear is soo adorable. So happy for you guys and you have a beautiful family ❤

I had a doctor prescribe me narcs when I was 18 after a car accident. I noticed how addicting they were and how they deeply affect my mental state. I took them after my first baby and it deeply added to postpartum issues. It affects your mental health. Last two csections I did without them. My doctor made me take the script just in case. But It was not bad at all recovering with other stuff pain wise. Emotionally recovery for me is harder than the pain and I didnt want to stacks cards against that. I think they shouldn’t be standard procedure for C-sections. You can definitely manage without them! You’re going through so much emotionally after baby. Better to try without them and be present.

My spinal didn't work. I have such bad trauma from feeling everything. But when you talked about the pressure, for real that's TERRIBLEEEEE especially when you can feel it all. And the placenta was stuck too and felt like they were ripping me apart the whole time. I remember saying, "thank God he's here" when I heard him cry. Pain and pressure was gone. Then once they handed him off it was immediately back to pain. I asked them, "please knock me out, I can't do it, please knock me out. " They were fighting me because my placenta wouldn't come out and my bowels were coming out, and they still had to sew me up. Plus the fact I was on blood thinners, my blood pressure was up, and I was bleeding. Lol. They knocked me out and I'm forever grateful for that. I'd be terrified to do it again

I, too, must have a high pain tolerance because of dealing with multiple health conditions. After each surgery (3 foot surgeries, 2 knee replacements, a cervical fusion, and 4 lumbar discectomies/laminectomies, a tricep repair) I simply used ice & Tylenol to control pain. I do escape discomfort via sleep. I had 2 natural childbirths although I had requested an epidural for the second one. Our bodies all respond differently to surgery and trauma, so I feel very fortuneate and understand that others may need stronger pain control in order to heal.

I don't know how you do it Shawn. My 2nd was in 1994 and I had a c-section due to haveing Placenta Previa. They didn't get me up until 24 hrs later and they only did it then because I pushed them to. She was early and had to be placed on oxygen so, I'd only gotten a momentary glimpse of her right after she was born. I was told I wouldn't be able to see her until I was able to get up and walk down to the NICU. Just an awful feeling and experience. They wanted me to wait another 12 to 24 hours and only relented after I threatened to pull out my catheter and IV myself if they wouldn't help me. But man, even feeling noticeably high from takeing 2 percocet every 4 to 6 hours, that pain was ungodly. I don't think anything in the world other than my children could have pushed me through pain like that. My 1st was 100% unmedicated (almost unheard of in 1988) and I would have choosen to do it again 10 more times over another c-section recovery.

What a cute little cub! Thanks for the peek into how things went. So weird to hear about going to an infusion center to get blood. I go to an infusion center to have blood taken out! I have too much iron where Shawn didn't have enough. My blood gets thrown away. Never understood why it can't be used for anemics. 🤷🏻‍♀️ It is strange going to where patients are having chemo. I never see a soul there though. Everyone has their own room. Sounds like things are going great! So happy for y'all! ❤

I really wanted to watch this as soon as it came out. However this content is more private. I am so happy for you all. Thank you for sharing Bear with me. He is adorable. Your story about rock climbing is so special. I am sure that rock climbing will continue to be a favorite. However I hope that it continues to open her and help her progress. I hope that you find an activity like that for each child. I am super impressed with your dedication to growth and healing. It is not an easy choice to make and it is much harder to go through the pain, but the price is worth it. I have seen some very brave individuals making similar choices for similar reasons (no 1 is the same). However it is very difficult to get through. So well done. Well done to Mr. East for respecting and supporting Mom's decisions. It is so funny to remember how many times Mes. East cringed with the first pregnancy and child at very ceingeable comments. So Mr. East, you have definitely upped your game and levelled up each time. Yes, still cringy moments, but really unavailable and recovered from quickly. That is what us important, to recover from, rather than try never to make, cringy comments because the former is realistic, but the latter is not. I learned so much from this time round. You might be "non-experts", but you are mostly on target with what you share for content most of the time for me, I am only speaking for myself. I am so happy and grateful for this podcast. I am not a podcast person. That should say a lot. I have also cut down my viewing time because I have lots more projects thank goodness and I still try get as much East Family content as possible. So great content. Enjoy the baby and children 💕. So beautiful.

I was prescribed a medication for lower back pain. I had taken it for 4 months when the media reported a well-known actress was arrested for selling drugs. The drug was the meds I was taking. I googled and discovered I was taking an opioid. Saw my doctor and worked out a time-line to stop taking them, to avoid withdrawal. It went smoothly. Now I take a standard painkiller, but only when the pain is too much. Well done for refusing to take those painkillers. Like you, I don't want to be controlled by drugs of any kind.

Get a Medela foot pump and mimic the baby’s rhythm while they’re nursing on one side, and strip the other side dry. Seriously. Establish a rhythm and either one of you can feed that milk to that little Bear. It’s also excellent practice for building up a reserve for date nights, etc. the foot pump is more effective than a hand pump, because it leaves both hands free to cuddle the baby. The nursing bra can support the pump up to about 6 ounces, then you add the crook of your arm. Pumping is a godsend. I did three without it and loved it for my fourth, though I loved straight nursing as well. Best of luck in every endeavor!

I hear you about pain meds. I hate narcotics in general. I broke my toe too. I took some ibuprofen and Tylenol or aspirin with that. I’ll tell you two regular strength aspirin and one extra strength Tylenol, taken together, cover me for most pain for 24 hours, but I never take it more often that three times a week. You can also take Tylenol with ibuprofen. Just keep the dose low.
