I’m just back from Lisbon and it’s hard to describe how magical the pastel de nata is. The filling is creamy and sweet while the pastry is perfectly flaky. The cinnamon spice is nice but honestly it’s perfect without as well

Are there any dim sum spots or Chinese bakeries there? Would be interesting to see the Chinese style egg tarts being served in Portugal.

I spent two weeks in Lisbon for work before Covid. I had grilled fish for lunch and dinner and it was a rare occasion where I lost weight in Europe. The only thing that kept me close o my weight were these amazing treats. You can get them almost anywhere but the ones at this shop were the best.

The Pasteis truly are the world’s best custard pie. Absolutely delicious and addictive. The only problem is that many places use the same name to sell BAD imitations. So you should look for preferably Portuguese tradition bakeries. Or look for a good traditional recipe and make some yourself !

Gotta love that American accent. 😂 But nice try. 👍 Pastéis de Belém. I’ve known that Lisbon pastry bakery for 35 years, my parents longer then that. It’s gotten bigger, richer and more famous. But the natas? They thankfully stayed as delicious as ever. If you enjoy sweets in general and custards specifically, it’s a must try! Enjoy. Bom desfrute de Portugal.

You should've done a better research, CBS, Pastéis de Belém ARE NOT Pastéis de Nata and it's kind of a sacrilege to call them that. You just shot yourself in the foot by using the term Pastel de Nata in a video dedicated to the Pastéis de Belém. I usually use this analogy to differentiate them: Pastéis de Belém are proprietary software, Pastéis de Nata are open-source software. Pastéis de Belém are unique, exclusive, they have a trademarked name and no one else can make them except for that bakery. Pastéis de Nata are everywhere, everyone can make them the way they want and they can compete against each other for the best one but no Pastel de Nata is better or worse than a Pastel de Belém because they're two different things.
