So Porsche is one of those cars I hear the name of but knew nothing beyond that, so I appreciate this introduction to what it actually is. It’s relationship to the VW Bug was also a fun surprise. I look forward to more fun episodes like this one.

I thought this video was very enjoyable. The two hosts were upbeat and knowledgeable. I liked all the different camera angles; they helped move the action along. I also liked seeing the Porsche from different perspectives: close-ups of the car's details; the Hauglands sitting in the car inside a building; the Hauglands on the road with the car. I also liked the way that the hosts put the car in historical perspective and in relation to other sports cars. I learned a lot about Porsches in a matter of minutes. Thank you.

It's been quite a while since we've been to he Portland Cars and Coffee. It usually only happens if we're staying in the Portland area the night before and are in a classic car for the weekend. The last time was before the Pandemic when it was at the World of Speed, so I am not sure where it's happening now.

@@stevemaricle1385 We'll definitely do an Austin Healey Sprite episode and it will likely be a 2 for 1 as we have two Sprite Mk1s. One is Amy's which is almost perfectly stock, while mine has a 1275cc engine, disc brakes, and 5 speed transmission. It would be fantastic to do an episode with each of us driving both cars and ranking them separately. We can also talk about what upgrades make the biggest differences and what's involved with doing them.

You two are a delightful couple and your presentation is engaging, informative and upbeat. All good stuff. Sometimes the music is a bit overpowering. A suggestion for future episodes would be to tell the history of your car and how you came to own it. You got my subscription. Amy- keep up with your crocheting. It adds a wacky vibe that I find lovable. All the best on your future episodes.

Definitely thanks for the input! We realized after filiming a couple of episodes and getting feedback before release that we weren't talking enough about the specific cars. For some of them, the history is more significant than others, however. I feel its often not worth the time in the video if I bought a car at auction with little direct history or contact with the previous owner. In this case, I bought he Porsche 356 through a connection made with a friend of a friend who was brokering the sale. It came from the easternmost end of Long Island, NY. I never met or talked directly to the previous owner and didn't see the car except for in photos before buying it. The biggest issue with getting the car had more to do with transport. Transporters tend to want to stay near freeways and not venture for long distances away from them especially with large trucks on busy streets and the eastern end of Long Island is probably the worst place to go to get a car in the state. The owner had to drive it quite a ways to meet the transporter. Fortunately that also proved the car was sound enough to run and drive when it arrived and we haven't had to do a lot mechanically to this car, aside from some basic maintenance and cleaning and tuning the carburettors.

There is a 914 in the collection and at some point we'll definitely have to do a video for it. They are a lot of fun to drive and are a somewhat forgotten Porsche so definitely worth covering. Great film and a charming car. I've just put a 1:18 scale model of your car in my display cabinet. Looks great because it's a beautiful shape. Incidentally, your personalities and the sounds of the car are more than enough for a sound-track, the pop-rock music could be calmed down a bit. Best wishes.
@Everyday2Exotic
@Everyday2Exotic 6 ай бұрын
The 356B is definitely worthy of a scale model collection just as it is in the Haugland Collection! Thanks for your notes on the music - we're still experimenting with our format, but using music as a backbone to our episodes is core to how we are differentiating ourselves here on KZfaq - cinematic production value and amazing lyrical music from indie bands helps create something as unique and special as the cars themselves. Best wishes right back to you!
@ahaugland1
@ahaugland1 6 ай бұрын
One of the biggest issues that the music helps with is that we're using very good noise cancelling microphones so that you can hear Amy and I as we talk in an open convertible car at speed. The downside is that the microphones do, in some ways, too good of a job filtering out sounds like the engine, gearbox, etc. At some point we may have to figure out a good way to address that, whether it is giving the car its own microphone that is protected from the wind but not noise cancelling, or seeing what we can do with a shotgun microphone to pick up more engine noise from the camera van. The sounds from inside the car are definitely part of the experience of driving them and I would like to have them be present, but it's tricky to do. We're still working on what equipment we need to do this better and have upgraded things significantly from the first episode already. We won't be eliminating the music, but hopefully will find a way to give a deeper sense of what it is lke to be in the car without it.

My question for a future episode with Alex and Amy is: when collecting and restoring classic cars how much effort goes into completing a restoration to factory conditions or ensuring the correct parts for that car are found? I saw this tool kit in another 356B video: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/jrSKlq2lmKrUh58.htmlsi=G1QI2LM2NN7AoENa&t=49 I thought to myself, how many modern cars have I owned that I don't even have the original tool kits or owners manuals. Also in a future video, do you have any fun stories of past adventures seeking out these hard to find accessories or rare parts that add those final touches to a classic restoration project?
@Everyday2Exotic
@Everyday2Exotic 6 ай бұрын

Yeah that heater runs air straight over the engine and back through the center of the frame before pumping it out the front air vents so it's not very efficient nor does it smell too great. But fortunately for us we filmed this episode in October so still a bit warmer and a lot drier than December!

I feel like convertibles are fairly practical in most seasons in Oregon, at least on this side of the mountains - but it can get chilly and we definitely have days where it's raining so hard that I would rather be in something completely watertight. Cold is fine. Wet is not.

You're definitely right in the sense that the scoring is totally subjective! This 356B is absolutely stunning and hugely iconic - absolutely foundational to Porsche's design. But is it the best designed Porsche ever made? Some may agree, others might not. But one thing is for sure, your Boxster and 911 are absolutely fantastic cars as well. Three cheers for Porsche!
