If you're stuck, just pick one tiny change. And practice implementing that every day for a week. If that goes well, you can add another one, and so on.

@@AuntieAlexandra Maybe because it seems too nebulous a topic. What the heck is a morning routine anyway? It will look different for everybody. How about pick one small action to add to your mornings that is aligned with your values? Meditation, a run, yoga, journalling...all these things are specific, concrete, and measurable.

I really need to wake up earlier as an ADHDer.... I LOATHE feeling rushed because although we are fueled by short deadlines I don't want to live my day to day that way. I am a bedtime procrastinator but not only that I typically get home later having a side business and so I don't eat until 9pm which makes me not ready for bed until close to 11pm because of digestion. I've tried to go to bed right after eating but it ends up being very low quality sleep. I don't really WANT to wake up earlier though, I'd rather have a lifestyle that supports my slow start to the morning (later morning).

gardening has changed my life, in the mornings interact with plants for 15-30 mins brings me so much joy and that dopamine helps me kickstart my day. Also unrelated and I know I commented already but I am so grateful I just stumbled upon your channel because I'm in the midst of switching meds, getting back into school, a new teaching job and I feel more empowered. I used to watch how to ADHD a lot but her tone and video style doesn't always resonate with me but you have such a wise presence that is so straightforward. so refreshing.

Hello! I am viewing this video late but I totally agree with you about a morning routine. I do everything I can so I don't have to "think" in the morning. I go as far as I can without annoying my husband LOL. I have my clothes ready, the coffee ready, the breakfast dishes and frying pan-ready. Then the pets: the bowls are clean, on the table with anything I need beside it. Whatever takes me 5 minutes at night, can take me 10-15 in the morning. I also have several alarms on my phone to keep me focused and on the way out the door or I fall into a worm hole LOL.

I need to find my MoJo. Self-discipline, clean up my living environment, drink less wine, get to bed by 10 PM/not 3 AM! Purge my clutter, and exercise out the door daily! Yikes I have a lot of stuff to change! Thank you for the motivation. I am in my 70's, still in the battle of Life! A good thing in my book!

I agree so much, if you look at your past if it didn't work the way you thought it should you should probably give it a shot this way where you take on the day having your cup full. The most important thing to point out is the morning Routine starts with the evening routine from the day prior. if you can't get your morning routine right, focus on your evening routine, and usually, that helps get a good morning routine going.

I found the only way for me to have a good morning routine is to prepare in the evening. Dishes done and kitchen clean makes me happy when I get up. I set everything up for feeding all the animals, and making my morning drink. So my p.m. routine lets me be on autopilot when I get up.

I just saw someone put on five of those coiled loops with a tag on it, and each one has a task on it: sunscreen, face washing, pills, food, sunscreen. She can only take one off if she's finished the task. And totally agree--I've been waking up with phone plugged in on the other side of the room, and I don't touch the phone until noon if I can help it. I leave and go write at a cafe without the phone. This has super helped my brain create to do lists and focus more.

I'm 40 and Adhd, and can't even relate to this. 😂 Autopilot? What autopilot? I have alexa reminders and stuff like that, but I have never had aan automatic routine. Every morning is remembering what I need to do today, in probably a different order to what it was yesterday. I'm great in a crisis or when problem solving or in new situations, because I am just dealing with things in the same way I have to deal with *everything*.

I'd even describe that as a core symptom of ADHD - having a broken autopilot and time sense! A bunch of the other symptoms relate back to this, our working memory is trying to hold a bunch of 'have to do's' that are just routines for other people, and we're will power-ing through those tasks which means we have less for other tasks, and we have more burnout just from every day tasks that other people have on 'autopilot'.

I'm a mess in the morning mostly coz I live alone and the moment I wake up it reminds me of how lonely my day is gonna be. So I reach for my phone immediately to deal with that loneliness. But I'm trying. I just decided cut coffee out of my system (not caffeine entirely) so I can sleep better. I know my body is flooded with cholesterol as soon as I wake up so I am trying chamomile tea these days.

I gotta recommend Brili for routines, it's really convenient. When I wake up, I just press play and it walks me through my morning routine (meds, bathroom, teeth...) You can also skip any parts you don't have time for or push one part for later (if the bathroom is occupied for example) and it's soooo easy to use it, even on hard days

Thank you for this, I've been wanting to get into a routine for a while but think my ADHD brain felt overwhelmed with where to start! Definitely taking some of these ideas to try, I know I feel better when I get out for air/sun rather than scrolling on my phone, yet rarely do it. I end up doing my first few meetings in PJs cos I've lost time! And ignoring my phone for a while would mean my dogs get out for a morning walk earlier rather than them having to go bathroom in the garden until I get my backside in gear around lunchtime! Sorry, personal brain dump! Lots to think about! Thank you

My everyday breakfast is bagel with 2 eggs, a meat (what ever is easiest), cheese, with jam, tajin, pepper and sometimes habanero hot sauce. Its filling and keeps me good for hours. My OMG-i-need-to-wake-up-early breakfast is making oatmeal the night before😅 with whey protein powder and add nuts and liquid (like milk) so i can eat it super quick. I like to eat, watch youtube for a bit, have an alarm set on my watch to switch to the next part of my routine. Generally I have a going out morning routine and a stay at home routine. What i need to add to my autopilot routine is exercise beyond stretching. I was doing 45 minute walks during covid, but i find i dont have time in the mornings + its dark outside.

I was in that same club and am a work in progress! What I have implemented recently is being part of the 5AM club. It is my magic hour for just me. There is something magical with the calm and quiet in the morning when no one is awake to bother you😂. It usually starts with some kind of short motivation, for me I found that listening to a 3-5min homily then my plan of action for the day (this tends to ground me). I got this inspiration hearing that monks have this routine to be up before the sun as a non negotiable!

Not everyone has the luxury of starting their working day after 10 am and devoting hours to an ideal routine that feeds our creativity. Some of us have multi-hour commutes and have to be out the door before 6 am. I like much of your content, but this is feels so out of touch and ultra-privileged.
@CarenMagill
@CarenMagill 8 ай бұрын
That's fair. Ironically, I just had two other viewers reprimand me for using the term privileged for the opposite reason that you pointed out. I do recognize my privilege and I think it's important to call that out. What is equally true, is that I created everything I have in my life based on my own effort. I'm also 53, so I've been working for a long time. I'm basically semi-retired now. I share this because I know I'm not going to be resonant to everyone, but it's who I am and it's my life that I"m sharing. I can only be me.

Hey there, I thought this initially as well but it definitely is possible to make changes and shift things to accomplish what you want in the mornings. I work twelve hour days as an ER nurse with a 45 minute commute each way. I started trying to wake up at four to journal, meditate, eat breakfast and get ready so I can be out the door by 6 am. It helps so much, especially the breakfast part since I don't always get a proper meal break. I'm pulled in a thousand different directions all day and this routine really helps me to try to pull myself back in and "triage" my where my focus should be
