Yes. I'm waiting for the 7945HX 16C/32T ITX board / Mini PC to become more than just a vapourware press announcement: that will make an awesome compact and low power development machine. Currently running a 7950X at 105W in a 4L Densium case, which is awesome for snappy development, but ~100W idle power at the AC outlet is a bummer.

They have a brand new AMD one too, the BD770i that's shipping in November. It uses SODIMM like this one, but has a full size PCIe slot. It also needs a normal 24-pin PSU connector.

I wish MXM-cards were used more. Good cards are hard to find. If they were more common, they would enable a whole new class of SFF Performance per liter class. Would absolutely love to see you try out an MXM-card with this motherboard!

Based on the specs and i/o, this might be an ideal device for a DIY NAS. With the storage prices being so low, I've been looking for something that would allow me to use 8 NVME drives in raid, but 6 NVME + 2 SATA drives might work. This might do the trick.

I wouldn't mix your vdevs with different drive types, otherwise should be good. Id do the same if i didn't have a mini itx x299 board.

Interested in MXM GPU and connecting the power supply via the usual 4 pin, which is located on the motherboard. It seems that this may be a good solution for placement in the InWin Chopin case

Mini-ITX PC looks good. I can see these being a popular turnkey package. Proper desktop style CPU cooler, and the large heat spreader on the side for the SSD's. Laptops suffer thermal throttling from their mobile form factor. The Mini-PC allows more advanced cooling to get the most performance and efficiency out of a mobile CPU.

I love that you always review the most random stuff, this is precisely what I was looking for (custom home nas build). The cpu has "quick sync video" and 2.5 ethernet makes it perfect for jellyfin.

I love that they are bringing laptop cpu's via mini pc's to mini itx. Was thinking of building a N100 nas starting with reusing existing drives in a miditower case but I i think i am holding of for now.

What i'd personally love for a file server would be dual LAN, dual power, and 3x M.2 slots on the top of the motherboard, maybe at 1x speed, then thermal pads to connect it thermally to both the mainboard, and the MXM board. I dont need the speed, but i do need the space, In my dreams that MXM board would have vertical mounts for 8xM.2 cards running at 1-2x link speed with maybe some ducting that uses the exhaust from the CPU cooler to blow through these vertically slotted M.2 cards that now look like a heatsink

There is also a BD770i unit with an AMD Ryzen mobile APU. That unit actually has a full sized PCI-E slot, and requires 24-pin power and a 4-pin CPU connector.

AMD is better option for Mini PC,I wouldn’t bother with Intel Mini PC because it would need a Graphic Card for decent Game but AMD has GPU which would have a better Gaming experience

In particular the Intel Arc MXM cards. I think those are the only current-gen GPU to get an MXM version.

Just go with a nice custom ITX setup with a low profile 4060...... way cheaper.....MXM GPUs cost at least $1000 for anything higher end. There's also the AMD 7000 Desktop APUs that may launch in the next 6 months, probably the way to go for an arcade machine for power consumption/form factor.

@@Blind-Ambition is there really an MXM 5700 XT? The latest MXM Radeon I've seen is the 580. The trouble with the MXM 2080 is that it's a Clevo design, so it requires external power and probably wouldn't fit in this motherboard/case.

@@ChristianStout Yes. The Sonnet Breakaway Puck has an RX 5700 XT version that uses a MXM 3.0 spec GPU. As for the 2080, you might be correct as I have no experience with ownership, I just know that it physically exists

For the price that would make an interesting option for a low power proxmox server. CPU is kind of overkill for a NAS or media server but I'm sure someone would use it for that too (not getting into the limitations of consumer nvme drives). After looking at their website the BD770i looks even more interesting. Might grab one to play with after I finish my current homelab rebuilding.

10 cores are amazing. It makes more efficient and powerful to an system. The system decides, which cores are working and which are in sleep mode. It turns to the performance, which makes the batterycells better.

It's an interesting product. With the 12650H only having 28 PCI-e lanes they had to make some compromises on I/O that is for sure. I'd love to see some benchmarks with the system loaded up with 6 M.2 drives to see if there is any latency issues caused by any lane switching(if any) . If minisforum would release a proper motherboard manual(as well as update BIOS for their products) then a block diagram of the MB would show how its done.

I would love to see some more CPU options on this board. Something like a 13850HX 20C/28T would be awesome without getting into the insane power draw of things like the 13980HX. That MXM slot makes me hopeful for either a round of MXM GPUs, like maybe a 4070M type card as the TDP would be manageable in the form factor this thing seems to be aiming for. An adapter card could also be quite useful, as then you can slot in any PCIE card you want for the most part.

Update on the MXM GPUs: I've found out that there's an MXM version of the RX6600. By default it's capped at 75W and base clock, but csn have the TDP raised to 130W and full desktop spec boost clocks with a firmware mod.

I suppose it would be possible to use an M.2 to PCI-E adapter, for a full size graphics card, though mounting it inside a case would require some creativity. Modern intel APU's are decent enough for basic gaming. Nice little assembly.

@ETAPrime I picked up one of these. Like the unit. But I was wondering. Have you seen it take 60 seconds at the Bios Splash screen before starting Windows? I've tried contacting support about it. They don't even have a BIOS Rom they can send a fella to try re-flashing. It didn't do it when I first unboxed it. Only after fully updating windows 11 pro.

i would love to see you do a review of minisforum's BD770i motherboard too. it doesnt have all those ssd slots, but it DOES have a pcie gen 5 x16 slot in mini itx form. the LP RTX 4060 would be a great choice for the system.

Only thing that lets this down for me is lack of ECC memory support by the 12650H - I wouldn't use it as a NAS based on this, but as a set-top media playback / emulation device it's perfect :)

pricing some MXM graphics cards with a decent video card this would be a compact beast for gaming! my only curiousity is if the power supply on board supply enough for a beefy MXM video card. like a 1650 or higher. does the mxm port supply enough power and can you reuse their cooling plate ontop of the MXM using thermal pads directly on the GPU die.
