This week, Kamila Valieva's case has been referred to the Court of Arbitration for Sport and we discuss why the trace amount of trimetazidine found in her system could be a damning piece of information in the case. Alexandra Trusova is on the outs with Channel 1 and we discuss the potential implications. Meanwhile, many of the top skaters in the world headlined the 2022 NHK Trophy and Yelim Kim defeated Kaori Sakamoto, Shoma Uno performed a stunning free skate, Laurence Fournier Beaudry and Nikolaj Sørensen defeated Madison Chock and Evan Bates, and Riku Miura and Ryuichi Kihara won gold by a country mile. Plus, Matteo Guarise made his debut with his new partner and Kevin Aymoz made his first competitive appearance after suffering an ankle injury. We break it all down and more on the latest edition of 'This and That'.

Chock and Bates are getting a message from the judges. The RD isn't Latin Ballroom. That music is not Latin. And those standard ballroom moves on Evan is so awkward looking. The RD is awful. The freedance was better. Isn't is crazy the team that beat them both men are 33, I think and both women are 30. So.. they've been skating against each other I assume for a long time. Once the IceDance judges start putting you behind... they don't typically ever get you back up.

I agree with every word you said about Shoma. I always admires His ability to undeestand music, and I am so glad it is just so evident now... Wouldn't it have been nice to enjoy something more like Padam Padam as a short, even when it had to suffer changes? As for Sota... I don't know... I find him particularly elegant, and I have been waiting for him to grow into a star. You nailed it- what Shoma is doing is giving everyone an astonishing and undeniable master class.

Shoma hands down has the best free skate out of any man this year. He's just on another level, to the point where even a quad axel can't (or at least, shouldn't) compare to what he's laying down. That said, Jun should have been the silver medalist at NHK. If he had been given just 3 additional points for PCS, then he would have beaten Sota, who isn't nearly as memorable or as emotive on the ice. I was also bummed for Adam here... I hope he makes the GPF. I still think his skating looks a bit frantic, but other than Shoma and Jun, his skating is my favorite of the men this year.

Shoma’s FS is a masterpiece! I was completely enthralled by his skating! And Jun should definitely have been in second place. Sota can’t compare with his artistry. Shoma is almost (but not yet) helping me get over the loss of Yuzu. He and Kaori did not take a break after the Olympics, but have contined to push their technique forward. I appreciate that Jun's music and choreography are fresher/edgier and might attract the younger generation to skating. Jun has great material to work with, and his Ina Bauer makes me gasp every time. I'd love to see Jun and Adam in the GPF. I mean, you have to respect the Japanese men, but if the GPF is just a copy of Japan Nationals, it is less interesting.

I think Kaori left a lot of points on the ice in the FP. That dress and hair are already iconic. She missed levels on the StSq, and the jumps aren't quite as amazing as we know they can be. I think given the skills and presentation she's demonstrating, she should be in the 9s for PCS. By the time Worlds comes up, I'm sure she'll be in the 9s. I'd love to see a Korean GP.

I enjoy a good Chock + Bates Fall 2019 program, and want them to win the world title so we can all move on from them and focus on 2026, but they are making it very difficult for me to push back against these other teams. Looks like at this point in the season 5th at Worlds is a success for them. Whoever is consulting with them on PR and image branding needs to be fired. They need to focus on getting programs in order and adding more Instagram stories that don’t include their dogs. I would also appreciate them skating clean, particularly Evan. Kaori Sakamoto's packaging is good, the hair and dresses suit her so much better now, but she still does not have that beauty of figure skating, she could have if she paid more attention to her arm and hand movements, she does it in certain poses but the rest of the time she's just flinging her arms around. She relies on speed but it isn't enough to zoom around the rink when your jumps go off.

C&B destroyed the Bowie program musically. Think of any Bowie song - Let's Dance, Fame, Young Americans, Heroes - anything ... But they are ICONIC themes, even in the initial hook for the intro - but This Let's Dance - what makes Bowie, Bowie, has essentially been surgically removed from the music edit. I don't like to diss anyone's music, but this edit is shockingly bad, because it's Removed Bowie from Bowie. And that's probably at the skater's request, and the producer has just followed the brief. Such a shame, that could be so much better.

I am wondering if the motion of the cross under with a wheel is different than with a skate where you need to have the extra nuance with the toe pick. It is a slightly difference nuance and if you notice, roller skaters who figure skate tend to be extra strong. It is possible they don’t take the time to work on skating skills because they are already strong enough to do everything from doing it on wheels, but their skating skills are typically not the most brilliant.

If Shoma were to switch his short program, I doubt that he would skate the Michael Jackson program. He would likely switch to "Padam Padam", his new EX choreographed by former coach, Mihoko Higuchi.
@lollypop2414
@lollypop2414 Жыл бұрын
That would definitely be the one he would switch to, because it was created to be either a SP or an EX. Shoma has said he may use it as a SP in the future, but I don't see him using it this season because his Gravity SP was choreographed by Stephane and I think he wouldn't want to hurt Stephane's feelings by switching to a program choreographed by his former coach. Also, Shoma has said he likes the challenge of the Gravity SP because it's different from any other program he's competed before. The only way I think he'd switch is if the judges really seem to not like the program and since he hasn't skated it clean yet this season it's hard to know how much the judges are liking/disliking it right now.

Who knows what they give them to keep them small and skinny till they are 17, and after that they grow up in 2 months. She deserve the chance. She still recovering from an injury. you always comments on her as she is nothing and she already looks different from the first competition.

@saraehtor7753
@saraehtor7753 Жыл бұрын
Trusova removed the Channel One patch from her jacket and instead put that black tape because their contract ended and we don’t know if Sasha ended it or Channel One. Channel One did not announce Sasha as the Olympic silver medallist, they showed after only the mistakes she made in the program and talked about how she is not good. They did not show her coach face at all and when Samodelkina started skating we could hear from the commentators who thought their mics were shut down saying: Trusova is over for Channel One. Later they cut it out but many people heard it. No one knows exactly why it happened, but some assume Sasha and Channel One started having problems in March when she refused to perform at Jumping Tournament. Not sure if this is true I am telling you just what I read from telegram chats.

I might be in a minority here but I don’t hate C/B freelance. I think the change of rules this year for freedance are by and large odd and actually not great for the sport. I think C/B set their bar so high with innovative dances so when they do a romantic classic dance it seems snoozy. Sure it’s not the most memorable but yet the elegance and the speed and lines struck me at NHK. If clean they could have a Moment at nationals.

I think the C/B FD miss not that much to be a good one, the music is a little dull but quite interesting and modern, so there should be a possibility to tweak it. For me the main problem is the approach and the costumes- it should me modern, as last years G/P FD. And it'd classic and romantic so it misses the point. The costums are beautiful as always but they are bleak. Really, changing the dress should already help a lot.

Trace amount is probably just because she took it too close to the testing so that their was still a trace in body (wrong timing on valieva or her team). All drugs take a drug specific time to be metabolized. Also explains why non of the others got caught, either they didnt dope or they took it in time.... Metabolization can also depend on the body/genetics and other substance someone took, for example grapefruits can severly change the actual concentration of a drug in your body and the time it is in your body.

I didn't agree with the ladies final results at the NHK. I thought Kaoris program was way more interesting to watch in the free and didn't feel her mistakes were as grave as Yelims. But I still struggle to figure out how things are scored, so my evaluation is more based on watching the performance and what was more entertaining to me. It will be interesting to see how the women's field plays out over the season. It's refreshing to not have the Russian women because the Eteri bonus made things just not fun to watch anymore - without it, the field is actually interesting to watch and is not predictable. I was stoked to see a couple medals go to Canadian entries 🍁 wasn't expecting that! :) This is the first grand prix series I'm following. I usually only watch the Olympics figure skating and had no idea what was going on in the culture of the sport, controversies that I thought had been fixed with the end of the 6.0 system (as a casual viewer things felt fairer but wow they are still just as messy but in new ways), and with the politics of skating. So when Kamila Valieva news broke, I started looking into more of what was happening. Ended up finding your channel and with your videos I've learned so much more about the sport and what happens in between Olympic seasons :D this is the first non Olympic season I'm following the sport and it's really exciting! Great coverage as usual, guys! If only NBC could be as honest as you both, but when money and politics is more important, well, I suppose that is their actual, favorite sport of all. Russia's ban should be as long as this doping saga has been going on - which was probably before Sochi 2014. How many athletes have been cheated out of the podium? Why should Russian athletes come back when they are part of a system which allows state-sponsored doping and does not heed nor respect international rules? Of course, Johnny and Tara will never say it out loud since they're working for NBC, but you guys pretty much cover near everything, so thank you. Trusova out of favor in Russia? Huh, I haven't been keeping up on that, but I hope she doesn't go back to Tutberidze and cares for her own health. Even if she isn't my favorite, to discover that she (and Scherbakova) had been doped (hasn't been proven) would be a devastating blow to the rest of the figure skating world. My favorite moments: Yelim Kim winning her first Grand Prix gold (yay, she's going to the GPF!) and Adam Siao Him Fa's step sequences.

He doesn't need to perform to the audience because his body is the instrument and in combo with his skating skills is enough to take you on the journey with him. Kazuki, on the other hand, kind of hides his weaknesses as a skater behind his performance, but he always entertains the audience so well.
