I randomly met "Max le bourlingueur" (Max the adventurer) in France in June 2022. Max is Belgian and has tried different setups before settling on the current trike system. He now lives permanently in his bike-drawn caravan, the first year of 10 years that he's planning to do so. He agreed to let me film him, as part of his effort to promote cyclotourism and cyclo-nomadism. Enjoy the video and if you'd like to tip and support Max in his journey, feel free to donate by clicking on the "❤️ Thanks" button right below the video. Thank you for watching!

@DeannaSt

No, they were not quite happy at that stage, they were exhausted, it was obvious for anyone with eyes . As an owner of several dogs in my life, beautiful creatures with very short lifespan compared to us, I can read their body language because I lost several to old age.💔🖤 The life of a dog owner is cruel, one always watches them go first…🙁 As they age, when they get old they become tired and when returning home from a regular walk they just sleep: at first, only for one hour or so but in few months for longer hours after each walk. One day, they won’t be as happy as before when they are told it’s the daily walk-time, they won’t run to the door anymore or bring the leash themselves and another day in not such a distant future, they will want to return home after walking half or less the usual distance and if you insist they continue, they will walk back towards home by themselves for a few good meters; one day they will simply lay down right there in the street to rest or simply return by themselves towards home watching you with a guilty expression on their kind face, but still… I know old dogs, I had about 5. One ends up taking them till the end of the street and back - you end up taking them to the park by car and they’ll be grateful for that. They are just like people, get old and have arthritis and hip problems and spine problems and teeth problems (they loose some of their teeth slowly one by one some breeds) and heart problems. All these happen after 8-9-10 years of age or earlier, depending on the breed. They even turn gray, I’m not kidding. No matter what colour their coat is, except for the white ones, when they are old you know because the hairs on their muzzle turn slowly gray then totally white. Trust me, I know dogs and their exact needs and issues.

Everything you said is true. And remember those dogs are huskys or Malamutes bred to pull and run long distances in the snow. I expect heat is the more harmful thing for them and it is evident they get too much of that!

Wow! That little cabin is awesome! Love it. The dogs seem happy to have a job-kind of. Really dig the whole setup. Wish I could do something like this but I would need more space. I’m not sure I could take being in something that small. Except being outside so much maybe it wouldn’t be so bad. Little claustrophobic but he is cycling most of the time . Never know until you try! God bless & keep him and the dogs safe. And try and see your mom. She’s not going to be around forever.

I also caught this kind of bug after watching some videos... Decided to build a coroplast camper on a 1 ton farm wagon frame.. Put the class 1 hitch on my Electric cargo bicycle by adding a wooden box with zip ties to the frame, has been working well for a couple or few years... been using it more for shopping then camping... It's very basic but also lightweight around 200 lbs in total with a few things in it even... it commands presence on the road... People generally exhibit more curiosity and respect than road rage

I totally empathise with him, his lifestyle and everything he said except I believe that it’s extremely extremely tiring for the dogs to make them walk every day for that long; I could tell they were really tired when he stopped for the interview and the dogs just dropped dead, one in the bed, the other one in the shade out there and they were like dead tired that’s not good for the poor things.

@@advantagemarine7305 it looked very warm in the video and underfoot in the tarmac. I wouldn’t dream of exercising my dogs in the heat. Maybe that’s why he keeps to the coast, but there should be some alternative transport for the dogs, so they can ride in the heat of the day!

I have a solar trike setup.. i did a couple things to keep the motor spinning fast and cool. added a Lekkie 30T narrow wide sprocket, keeps motor spinning fast with lower torque.. Added a Rohloff to give more options for Power:gear:speed ratio.. i watch the watts to find the most efficient usage of current. And i go into gear 1, and power level 5 uphills .. This keeps the motor cool. I also carry frozen wet rags, that i put in ziplok bags and freeze over a bottle to the shape of my motor.. If i see a steep hill coming, i place one of the frozen wet rags on the motor before the climb. I never over heat. :). Thanks for he video.

That is exactly what I am now building in Massachusetts. My design has evolved from electric cargo bike based on a Cruzbike T50 front wheel drive recumbent. My evelovan? will be ~270cm long, ~90cm wide tilting delta trike with FWD. There will be a front fairing and tear drop style cabin covered in solar tiles for reasonable aerodynamics. The folding down seat allows cabin inside space to be about 200cm I plan to relocate back to UK, get Irish passport then tour all over Europe with my beagle if permitted. No plans to commercialize it, but will likely share construction details on youtube when complete.

I notice you have an HP Velotechnik Gekko. Great trike. I almost got one in 2021, but ended up opting for the Scorpion Enduro instead. I am a long distance trike adventurer, but nothing like what you do. You may wish to consider some pedals that have made a HUGE positive difference in m ability to ease the effort when pedaling up hills and mountains (It is very mountainous where I live on the western coast of the United States). The pedals allow the entire foot to push, and are much longer than the short little pedals you have. With the foot supported heel to toe, you can put MUCH more power directly into each pedal stroke, something I realized only after trying out these pedals on my HP trike. The pedals are high grade aluminum, with 18 traction pins per pedal (each side) to keep your feet from slipping off while pedaling. The cost was $149 US dollars, but they are worth every bit that much, and I am SO glad to have replaced my clipless pedal setup that I used for the past 13 years. Here are links to videos that I did about these pedals on my KZfaq channel to give you an idea: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/fpaTYKl93J_aiKc.html kzfaq.info/get/bejne/rcVpaaaer9iopas.html And here is where I bought these great pedals: pedalinginnovations.com/ I learned about them from another trike adventurer, a fellow named Matt Galat who started riding a trike around the world in 2014. He loves them, and now I know why! I would never go back to small standard pedals that are not good for the feet. I now have NO foot pain, like hotspots, any more. Riding up hills is not fun compared to what it used to be! steve
