Thats a 720, probably a 1980 model year. Most markets (such as the USA) had rectangular headlights but the early 1979-1981 fleetline models had 4 round headlights. It's definitely a pre-1982 as it still has the L20b vs the Z20/22/24 that later models had.

Also this is ar LEAST a 1980 MY because before that Nissan vehicles had 5-digit odometers. Basically theres no way to tell how many kms are on it, but seeing how long Datsuns lasted here in the USA; Murilee Martin did a photo essay of a 1980 210 (b310 chassis) that had 370,000 MILES (600k kms) on it. Beibg it looked showroom fresh compared to this pickup, it wouldn't surprise me if it has many millions of kilometers on it.

To those who say that's a green car... Well at some point it burns mostly oil and have no catalytic converter so what's so green about it if it poison everyone around it? Some modern engine will have better efficiency, just they don't want to make them durable.
@tehgerbil
@tehgerbil 7 күн бұрын
To be that durable you need slack tolerances. Realistically that engine needs a full rebuild, rebore, liners, you're only going to be reusing probably the block and maybe the carburettor can be rebuilt. Everything else is totally worn out beyond salvage and probably out of balance. But because it's crude and mechanical, and not electrical, it can run out of tolerance like you see, burning a lot of oil, low on compression most likely, probably leaking pressure and exhaust gasses at various points, but it still works. A modern electronically controlled efficient engine would pick up so many faults it would stop working, long before this point. Such is life. You can have efficiency or longevity. Choose wisely.

Because it gets dirty, chokes the engine with the sand after a short time I suspect. Where will you get a new one? And to buy them so frequently is expensive. Better to change the oil more frequently, you can filter the oil later too, to clean the sand out. The bore on every vehicle in Africa is basically totally shot, anyway.

I learned how to drive stick shift on a truck like this one as a teenager in the mid 80's, it was fairly new at the time. Absolutely loved it!! Very high quality, it lasted several hundred thousand miles as a not very well taken care of work truck.

Nissans prior to 1995 were almost unbreakable, the only thing that could do them in was rust. Even in desert climate it looks like this one's almost eaten by the tinworm.

My dad said he had one of these back in the day before I was born, Datsun 620 if I'm correct. Good little trucks, although here in the snowier parts of the United States where we live, it didn't last long after the salt was poured on the roads. Other than that, good little truck. I have a couple hot wheels ones too

This car is running in hot / sandy environment which is actually not that bad. For example in rainy / snowy environment this car will be eaten by rust and gone.

You could only do this in the desert. And in the West, that vehicle would be considered hazardous by now. I'm convinced that is NOT a 1960s model. Late '70s? Early '80s, maybe? Interesting video.

That looks like an older Toyota probably 1980 or older based on the bed rails.. The odometers rolled over so many times that it’s hard to prove how many miles are really on it but either way it’s pretty impressive. I wonder if that’s the 22r motor found in most of those old pick ups.

You *can't* help but take it easy on this truck. It makes very little power. No electronics beside the ignition, and sports a tried and true carburetor. This thing has a look that only hard work can achieve. I love this truck, and its far from done.

@@shykj8892 you can't just look at a cars odometer and read 3.7 million miles or km which is what he claims makes this the 3rd highest mileage car. A cars odometer only reads up to 6 digits if it hit a million it would roll back to 0.
