By the way, if you want to talk about shane's leadership when he led the group, you can go to the first episodes. You will see that he only cared about Lori and Carl. He told Andrea's sister openly that she can forget Andrea, that he will not risk anything for her. Oh and remember how he cared for Lori by trying to rape her in the end of season 1? He also did nothing when Rick was fighting enemies. He just fooled Lori to make her come back to the farm. That's all. He was never a leader.

Even in the beginning, Shane pulled a gun on Rick. It's nothing new that Shane wanted Rick away from Lori and Carl, he wanted his family, he betrayed his best friend, and he deserved the death he got. And Rick crying and saying ''That was you, not me.'' What a performance.

Reasonable interpretation, Shane wasn't going to shoot the first time, and the 2nd time too, it's already more than interpreted that Shane just wanted to force Rick to evolve by force, he knew he was out of place, that Rick wouldn't be able to move forward just by making good decisions, Shane was necessary, he forced Rick to become a man. A character better written than any other in the series, and better acted too.

The reason Shane decided to kill Rick now is because of what Lori just said to him. In her mind she was trying to make peace with him and thank him... wanting no hard feelings. Shane heard her words as ... 'If Rick wasn't here we would be together.' Shane was NOT a good leader because all he cared about was Lori, Carl and himself.... a good leader needs to care about the WHOLE group because it is the WHOLE group that makes surviving possible.
@korivex742

@@IncognitoJohnDoe If Shane was leading a dog or just Lori and Carl then none of them would survive for long. They need the group, anyone in this situation needs a group to survive long term. Was waiting to see AJs response to Shanes death. Can't believe he thought that was out of character. That was exactly who Shane has been since day 1. And that was how he went out in the comic. Shot trying to kill Rick so he can have Lori. Shane was not a good leader...he repeatedly said he only cared about Lori and Carl. He would 100% sacrifice anyone to save those 2. Rick does what he can for the whole group.
@a_kmza
@a_kmza 4 ай бұрын
How is this who he's been since day 1? What obligation does he have to a whole group. He already did more than enough by having that camp and looking for their safety but they knew the city was a risk going in and out of and Glenn even said the first time they go as a group is when it fucks up. I think being the only one who realises what needs to be done, constantly being given mixed signals by someone you loved and repeatedly told that you're in the wrong and your just crazy when you end up being proven right is what drove him further down the road. People want to act like Shane from the start was this bloodthirsty tyrant who wanted to boss a group around. He found some sort of peace in family with Lori and Carl and it came crashing down to reality when Rick showed up. He tried to talk about it to get over it and was shut down and treated like he was some malicious liar who only tried to get into Loris pants. Then at the end of it Lori finally admits she owes him a lot after constantly flipping from on and off with him. He was pushed to the edge and of course he did unforgivable things but he was also right a lot of the time and was the only one of the group who knew what needed to be done before Rick finally caught up and realised the world they lived in. Anybody who says Shane is wrong is then admitting anything done in the later seasons is also wrong. So what should the group do? Just lay down and let people like the Governor and Negan use them and kill them. Or protect themselves? This isn't the same world, as much as Dale wants to argue against it the world is all about survival of the fittest.

I’ve gone back and watched the walking dead from start to finish a few times, and I consistently come to the opinion that the conversation with Lori is a huge factor why this happened. Shane's death is tragic in a way.. it feels like a brother killing a brother. I'm not per se on the hate train when it comes to Shane, as you guys also mentioined he just burned through and snapped, this world brought out the worst in him and Lori unintentionally gave him the final push. But he still tried to kill Rick in cold blood and that's also a fact so Rick had no other choice than killing him in self defense.. as Shane has said himself there would've been no coming back from this. btw I always love your little after discussions ! Can't say it enough but this will be such a great ride with the three of you. You guys have the perfect dynamic

During the last verbal exchange when Shane kept taunting Rick, supposedly Jon Bernthal wanted it to seem like he was pushing Rick further and further until he had no choice but to kill him, to finally push him over the line and realize he has to do certain things to not end up in situations like this one. Which means he was trying to get Rick to stop taking half measures. He asked the studio to do a reveal that the gun he had pointed at Rick was empty the whole time after he died which could suggest Jon knew more about the character than we got the chance to. The way the studio did it leaves it open to interpretation rather than something solid people just accept.

You guys are awesome. Interesting and a fun watch! as I did when I watching this show week to week, I must give me peice and DEFEND SHANE with a mighty passion 😆 I felt shane was incredibly missunderstood back in the day. He was close to Rick and his family before it started, then after he falls in love with the idea of having Lori and Carl, became the leader of the group and would do anything to keep them alive. Rick comes back from the dead and literally in an instant its all taken from him. Even the leadership. Obviously Shane was likely doomed to mentally crack and change with this world, but absolutely he was ahead of the curve on how to survive and Rick was living as a cop still. And if Shane, understandably, truly thinks Rick can't keep them safe-he's gotta do what he can to make sure Lori and Carl and his unborn baby survive. And the Otis thing, to me it was obvious. Shane was wounded, hobbled, and they weren't looking like they were gonna make it. It become one of them dies or they both do. And if you rewatch it, you Shane practically pleaded with him to go and leave Shane behind! But either way, Carl had to live, and he did. Shane started spiraling from that point really. He obviously had guilt for sacrificing this guy. But he also knew he can do what it takes to keep them alive. *shaves head and stares into mirror like a bada$$*

Shane uses Lori and Carl to manipulate Rick so things will go his way, plain and simple. Shane knows good and well that prisoner doesn't mean more to Rick than Carl does. Rick knows he screwed up bringing Randall to the farm and getting him away from the farm asap keeps them all safe, including Carl. As for Lori, she pushes Shane away, reminds him that she and Carl aren't his family, then goes to him and tells him to stay, then has the talk with him at the windmill. She keeps yanking his chain and giving him a tiny glimmer of hope. I feel like she realizes any of them could go at any time so she's making sure she's got a man to take care of her either way. I think Shane gave Rick one more chance to do things his way (Randall). Rick didn't so as usual, Shane went off half-cocked and handled it his way. It's easy to say Shane was a decent leader at the quarry. Up until the walkers attacked the camp there were no tough decisions to be made. Rick showed up and everyone gravitated to him, that's what pissed Shane off. He wanted to be in charge and everyone was suddenly looking to Rick. The difference between the two is that Shane demands respect, while Rick quietly commands respect and gets it. In all the 13 years I've watched this show and followed reactors, I've never seen anybody try so hard to defend Shane and make him the good guy. 😂

@@lukefury8162 I didn't completely hate him, he had his moments. Andrea said it best when she told him it was his delivery that could use a little work. The walkers in the barn could've waited. They weren't a safety issue until they found out they were there, for example. He wanted to make the calls and resented it when everyone looked to Rick. The Otis thing changed him (as it would anyone) but I think some of those traits were already there, he just kept them in check. It's for sure he wanted what Rick had when it came to Lori and Carl. I wasn't sorry to see him go cause at the end he was causing more problems than anything.

Shane tried to kill Rick 3 times total but Rick loved Shane so much that he forgave him to have slept with his wife. If this is not love, I don’t know what it is. He would have never killed Shane. Shane wanted to be Rick I am sure even before the apocalypse. It was some kind of toxic friendship. I loved Shane though, he brought the drama. I also love the fact that Daryl was the first to call BS on Shane’s story about the prisoner escaping. Once again, Rick believed it right away because of his brotherhood with Shane.

@@GameRollRDRno rick was simply the more the dominant alpha putting it simply, who'm having to rapidly adapt to the ever increasing threat that is the world around them, anybody could've easily broken under such pressure, especially considering having to help this group of survivors escape from Atlanta relatively intact, I mean I doubt anybody could've done better in that situation, maybe rick but unfortunately he was in a coma.

gotta pay attention to all the clues when it comes to storytelling. this show constantly let us know that not only was shane a shit leader, but he was a shit person. first time we see shane, he is literally refusing to help andrea, tdogg, morales, glenn and meryl when they are trapped by walkers from ricks gun shots. when rick meets the camp and realizes meryl is still trapped on the roof, rick volunteers to go back to help the very man he handcuffed. shane refuses to help and advises none of them go to help meryl. shane was trash from the very start. he also didnt give a shit about finding sophia.

See I understand the shane hate. I hated him too and his mental health did get destroyed by killing Otis and it got worse overtime. but knowing what I know I also think that he was right. Like they said it was just poor execution. #1 they didnt show this in the show but they should've I believe Shane couldn't kill rick. We all saw how bad killing Otis messed shane up mentally and shane didnt even know him that long. Shane physically and mentally couldn't have pulled that trigger. That's why he kept poking the bear saying that "you can't protect your family rick ! " and "Raise your Gun rick" stuff like "your a bad father" Shane basically wanted to die. that's why he didn't shoot rick but you can hear a gunshot when he gets stabbed his hand was on the trigger the whole time but he just couldn't pull it. Also Shane wanted to leave the group several times without andrea and with her and EVERY Single time he was about to leave Lori would say something to him to make him want to stay. Now am I saying shane is right for obsessing over lori ? No. But what I am saying is I do think Lori wanted Shane there as a secondary option just in case anything happened to rick. Not everything is her fault because shane did choose to do his own actions like I said shane did lose his mind but who knows. If she didn't do that maybe him and andrea would've left and went somewhere happy making there own group while our group was here at the farm. And somewhere down the line our two groups could've came together and merged into one.
