@@eamoncameryncollier1584 No matter how reliable a vehicle is, if you never change the oil, balance the tyres, air them to the right pressure, and keep the engine in repair when a light turns on, it will fail much sooner than later. Contraywise, even a piece of junk Chevrolet Spark, Sonic, Impala, or any Renault will make 200,000 miles if you maintain it. I had a coworker that still drive a Vega. He kept it running great. The Vega was not a good car. He probably still has it today. It was his first car and he still had it at 35 years of age.

Clogged heater core. Probably clogged radiator, causing over heating problems. No antifreeze used, owner ignorance. Transmission cooler in radiator can't do its job. Tranmission failure due to overheating. Too often its not the car that is bad but the owner and it's mechanic. 120000 miles on an alternator very reliabile. Propagada represented as analysis.
@Ryno-fp7pm
@Ryno-fp7pm 5 жыл бұрын
The Dexcool is known for causing issues. GM touts it as "lifetime" coolant. A lot of time it turns into muck. If GM says you don't need to change coolant, then owners are not going to. The 4L60 is a good transmission, but there were lots of problems with it when using factory parts. If you build one with higher quality AM parts, they are stout. An alternator should last (and do) a lot longer than 120k miles.
@saintm1680
@saintm1680 5 жыл бұрын
@@Ryno-fp7pm good point. My understanding is that dexcool sludge happens if there is an air leaking onto the system. Did the owner keep up with leaks? Once you know the antifreeze is the problem use something else. 4l60 was the old 700r4. These transmission were meant to handle v8 engines. These cars had v6. Engine should not be able to break this transmission.

Oh Scotty, you're breaking my heart with this video! I've put trust in your tips, tricks &. how-to's. I value your opinion & hold your repair videos in the highest regard. You're like a mentor. I really thought we were of the same mind. YOU'RE EVEN A CAT GUY! (Which is a true sign of intelligence in itself 😸) But now, it's all falling apart after seeing this.😭 I'm a VERY proud owner of a 2000 4.3L Chevy Blazer approaching 130k miles. An extremely reliable & tough vehicle - w/the heart of a champion (like Rocky in, well... you know, all those Rocky movies) I had a little 2dr S-10 Blazer in college and I was hooked! At well over 200k it was still going strong but I needed more room so I graduated to the 4 door. This truck always delivers above & beyond expectations no matter what is asked of her. I have no doubt that I'll easily see 300k with this truck. Granted, I've made a point of learning GMs weak points & manufacturing hiccups to stay ahead of any problems (I nipped that Dex Cool crap in the bud right away) People, just do a little research and PLEASE, for the love of God, make sure you you do maintenance checks on your vehicle! As we all know, no car can (or is meant to) last when being driven into the ground without minimal maintenance & care. And, Scotty, I still love you... and your cat.

The guy with the blazer is kind of a bozo.... the transmission issues sound bad if it’s really how he’s describing, I’ll give him that, but a MAF and alternator lasted over 100,000 miles, wtf are you complaining about? Those weren’t really know for tranny problems either so I’m not sure how he went through 3 of them.

@OhYeaMista
@OhYeaMista 5 жыл бұрын
Number Two Probably. And the rebuilt tranny only got like 30k. Sounds like he needed a new transmission shop more than a new car. The dexcool in those gms is 100,000 mile coolant too. Dollars to donuts he didn’t do a flush at 100k and that explains his clogged heater core. Thing literally went 100,000 miles with zero problems and he thinks it’s the “worst car ever”.

@OhYeaMista
@OhYeaMista 5 жыл бұрын
Nick Griffith don’t know what you’re trying to say? I’d agree a Tacoma is probably a better built car. Doesn’t mean that the Blazer is “the worst car ever”. Again, it went 100,000 miles with no problems. And then the problems it did have were minor except for the transmission.
@dr420nrg
@dr420nrg 5 жыл бұрын
He complained about replacing parts he already replaced. I would say that would confirm there is an issue with that model. My truck has an issue with door handles braking and a tsb for the lights not having amber in the corners. I'll take that over replacing trans or alternators over and over. After all that can leave u stranded on the side of the road.

I'd love to see a video about specifically what was so bad about 2003 Blazers. As it happens, I have a 2003 Blazer Zr2 2-door 4x4. Bought it used about 5 yrs ago and other than the ABS ground quirk, I haven't had any mechanical problems with it at all yet (knock furiously on wood). Mostly just been replacing suspension parts which were still the factory originals. My big problem, living on the coast, is frame rust and rot, but c'est la GM. The gas mileage is atrocious, though. My worst experience was with a 2001 Chrysler Sebring convertible. Will NEVER touch a Chrysler again. (seriously, what genius decided to put the battery access in the wheel well?)

I've even seen quite a few S10- pickups and Blazers over the years with more than 300,000 miles which were still running fine. One thing I do differently from most people is that I change the oil in the automatic transmission every few years (about every 30-thousand miles), because I think that eliminates most of the risk of transmission breakdowns.

Scotty, I have a 2014 fj cruiser with 34k miles had the dealer replace “wobbling idler pulleys” under the powertrain warranty all three were changed, I’ve put less than 2000 miles on the vehicle since, and one of the pulleys already wobbles. Who sells or makes good idler pulleys for this application, preferably sealed type?

I’m having a leak problem on my 2002 on the passenger floorboard, it doesn’t appear to be coolant (it’s clear) I live in California and it had been out in the rain, but I can’t seem to track it down. Scotty, I have a VW Golf which is 20 years old. The central-locking has been giving trouble since I've had the car. I drive it rarely and the inside is often damp with condensation (it's always parked in the shade). Is this damp causing the electrical problems in the central-locking? Clive (UK)

On the early ones the control solenoid valves tended to gall in their cylinders. This made the transmission fail to complete a shift, causing clutch packs to slip and wear out putting clutch particles all over the transmissions.

For a few dollars more and 5 minutes of work you can easily change the A and B shift solenoids when you change the fluid & filter in a 4L60E. I got a AC Delco kit off ebay that had the filter, gasket and updated solenoids for right around $40. Made a world of difference.

Had a 2000 Ford Windstar (bought used; don't remember the mileage). Was driving home from a doctor's appointment when the transmission suddenly went. When it was repaired the mechanic told me that this was at least the 3rd transmission put in that vehicle and this was a very common problem with them. Sure enough, every time I drove past his shop there was at least one or two Windstars being serviced.

I guess because I'm careful with the fluids and making sure it's flushed out, etc. I also use certain additives, still it does have some issues, but the engine itself is strong. I'm just waiting for the transmission to die only because I know all transmissions can normally give out any time after 150,000 miles.
