Not on the Isle of Man you won't unless it is a smoked fish. I was there several times in the late 90s and they would publish in the Douglas Herald the crimes and punishments meted out to island folk and visitors alike. Try 14 days in jail for spitting in public, 1 month in jail for possession of 1g of Cannabis (that was reduced because the guy was a visitor from France and came forward with the drug as he thought the notice about drugs at the ferry-port was like a sort of amnesty) that sort of thing. The IoM was the last place in the UK to abolish the "Birch", the last administered birching being in 1965 to a visitor from Glasgow for being drunk and disorderly. FKW it was like in the 1930s. Nice place though.

I'm 60 years old and I read about Gef in the early 1970s. I was astonished and pleased to see this story here. I think they called him a mongoose because it was the closest living creature they could match whatever it was to. If you haven't done Borley Rectory yet, can you do Borley Rectory please. Or maybe the Bell Witch. The story I read in the early 1970s again -- probably from the same book -- helluva book huh! -- went way more into detail, some probably apocryphal at best, but still fascinating to me. The most amazing thing was that the "witch" appeared to divide into multiple spirits, who had _names_ . There was Cryptography, Mathematics, Mad Dog, and another one whose name i forget, but i think it was 4 of them. And the 'great amhearst mystery' too please. I am positive that everyone of these stories was in the same book. Oh and the "drummer of tedworth". And the "vampire of croglin grange.

Fact: He says all his "th" sounds like "f" and "v" because he has enormous 2 front teeth. He can't say the "th" sound properly because the teeth are too long for his tongue to make the sound. It's not just because of the word "thoughty". Listen to all the other words he says. Like "three" is pronounced "free", "other" is pronounced "uver", etc. It's actually quite distracting considering that it can be easily fixed. You don't see the large front teeth so much with his moustache. But sure can when he didn't have one (probably why he switched things up a bit). Check for yourself. I still love the video''s though. Yeah. After they discovered the mongoose living in the walls, and hearing the echoes, her mind just went wild. Kind of like when something scary/unexplained happens the human mind jumps to all sorts of conclusions and inflates the danger/object into something worse/more unexplainable than what happened. Some people don't have that switch in their brains that tells them that it was only their imagination, for them the danger/object merely had an alternative explanation. I can't remember what that is called, some kind of reality-altering disorder, and I'm too tired to search google for it...

I am a scientific person, but this reminds me of a story told to me by a friend who grew up on a large rural property in Minnesota,USA. When he was a child, aged about 7, he and his brother walked to the back of their property where there was a large tree stump. They approached the stump, and (pardon any politically incorrect terminology), a dwarfish little man ran out from underneath and screamed at them to go away. Years later, as adults, he asked his brother about the incident. His brother was 5 at the time of the incident, and replied “ wait! You remember that? I thought it was just a dream that I had as a child!!” As they were discussing this, their younger sister walked up, and said, “Are you talking about the badger under the tree stump???” They were shocked, and asked her what she experienced. She was 3 years old, a talking badger emerged from the stump, and was kind to her, unlike her older brothers. Apparently the badger asked her to tell her some jokes, or any silly songs that she knew! The badger was amused and asked her to return some other day, which she did, and told the badger more funny things. They all had totally separate memories of this tree stump, only sharing them much later on as adults! Again, I am a scientific person, but, whuuut the heck????

Thank god we live in a time where people can create content that they enjoy making and sponsors are willing to pay for ads! So much critical BS here about creators actually making a living. Fun fact: the people, well guy really, who devised the story of this talking mongoose was also the author of multiple other paranormal events and experiments that happened in the US and the UK during the height of the Spiritualism Movement; I think his name was Harry Price, famed psychical researcher Harry Price. He had a big band in promoting a spirit medium; I can’t remember her name but he basically took on her on a world tour where she could “showcase” her supernatural abilities such as Ectoplasm projections, automatic writing and good old fashioned spirit communications. At the time people were losing their minds over this stuff and it’s kinda easy to see why; mediums were basically performers, actresses who were super dedicated to their characters and so they put a ton of time and effort into pulling off these hoaxes.

Back in the 70s ... when "tripping" was all the rage (LSD) ... I, during a trip, found myself having a conversation with a dog. I wasn't talking .. I was thinking and the dog was replying to my thoughts. I assumed that the experience was "just something that can happen during trips." There are, however, people on You Tube who happily talk about the conversations they have with their pets. Telepathy? On another occasion, whilst tripping with a group of people, someone picked up the cat and said to it: "Look here cat! We've had this conversation before!"

There was a tv show in the USA, in the 1950's to early 1960's, called One Step Beyond. It was acted out stories, about supposedly "real" paranormal events. There's an episode, called The Voice, which looks like it was based on Gef. Only in the show, it was a raccoon, who could speak multiple languages, and took place in the USA on a farm, etc. The episode is available to watch for free, on KZfaq.

I case anyone wonders why so many people believed this family in the first place, it should be noted that the three family members were far from the only people in the neighbourhood to have reported to have talked to Gef. Many visitors to their home claimed to have talked to Gef, as did at least one journalist. It was the fact that so many seemingly believable people reported having interacted with the creature that made contemporary media all over the world so interested in the story.

Yet another great video from Thoughty2. Love your channel Arran ( & the braces are very cool too 😎) ,& all these amazing stories, no matter how weird or spooky they may be, you always make it fun. Keep up with the good work. ( Sorry but I can't help out financially with your channel).

* deeply pained sigh * as a fan of his work, i must inform you all that neil cicierega (the man behind the ultimate showdown of ultimate destiny, potter puppet pals, bustin', ariel needs legs, brodyquest, and many more staples of internet culture) wrote a song about this little guy called 8th wonder of the world. please consider listening to it if you're fucked up in the head

As a regular viewer from the Isle of Man, I’m afraid I missed most of this video. The involuntary “he’s talking about the Isle of Man!” Reflex kicked in and I spent the last 20mins telling all my friends. We’re a fun bunch over here.
