I worked at a dental implant center and the most complaints I heard from the patients were how the dentures would hurt their gums and the roof of their mouth, alot of them said they didn’t even fit right, some of them didn’t even bother putting them on because it hurt so much and they couldn’t even talk with them, definitely no way to live.. Full mouth dentures are a way to go for sure, way better than individual implant procedure.

I wear dentures and have no problem eating steak and other foods that you "can't" eat with them. I have learned many tricks to get the job done without losing adhesion or popping out. It's all a learning curve trying to eat food again once you get them typically takes at least 6 months to a year before you get used to it

I had a huge crash back in 2017, 14 broken ribs; crushed sternum, collapsed both lungs, 3 vertebrae, brain bleeding. Coma for 5 days and ICU for 30, when I woke up in the helicopter for about 30 seconds I remember throwing up a ton of blood and in there was most of my upper teeth unfortunately… then they put something into my IV and I woke up 5 days later. 🤷🏻‍♂️😂 anyways, I have too denture’s now, I use fixodent ultra, I can literally eat any food at all, it’s like I have the same teeth I did before. A reline in many cases can also usually solve this , extra postdams on the ridge as well as not polishing the buccal flange can also add a little extra retention on patients with shrunken gums with little or no undercuts.

I am very familiar with denture adhesive. I wasn't born with my baby teeth and was forced to use dentures for most of my childhood.

I was eating some “healthy” food and this is what I found- Oh this almost made my mouth sticky-

Floss after you eat. To floss make sure you put the floss between teeth and then ride the floss along one side of the tooth all the way down under the gums and then back up, wash off and other tooth. After flossing you probably want to use a fluoride toothpaste unless otherwise told not to by your doctor. From there fluoride mouthwash will help prevent cavities even more. If you have gum disease you may want to use a strong antibacterial mouthwash instead and if you are in later stages of gum disease or periodontis you can lilely get a prescription antibactrial mouthwash specifically made for that issue.

I heard a story about implanted dentures from a coworker. There was this older guy in the nursing home she worked at that had implanted dentures. He had late stage dementia and so was experiencing issues with balance. He fell and busted his face and dentures. Because of his age and advanced dementia they could not fix or remove his dentures so for the last few months of his life he lived with busted teeth. I guess he never understood why he could no longer eat solid food.

Yeah, my mom won’t get dentures because she’s so embarrassed and scared of that happening. She would love to have the implants but would never be able to afford such a thing. Why insurance won’t cover these is crazy. Something is wrong when seniors working since they were 16, can’t afford dental care. Things have gotten so so expensive you have to just suffer with the teeth you have.

The problem is even great insurance doesn't cover implants and that's the problem! Insurance needs to start covering these things! Because a lot of people cannot afford to get implants they are very expensive! I'm paying over $3,000 just for one tooth for my husband for an implant for a back molar I can't imagine what a full set would cost!!!

My dad always tells me this story of when he was in highschool, this really old teacher was on the intercom and was saying "Attention students, all of you taking this test have failed" but as soon as he hit the F his dentures flew out and everyone heard him putting his dentures back it. It’s also called an overdenture. I’m 33 all my teeth were pulled at VA at like 26/27. I have 4/4 implants. There are different levels of “support” I guess.. color coded embeds that lock into your implant. (I forgot the real name). I constantly have to change mine out. I had great surgeons; I was put under general for my surgeries too; they did full grafting/top and bottom but within 1 year post op they had to regraft the whole thing prior to implantation due to amount of bone loss. And after everything was said and done one implant just failed like a year later and just went through the process of getting a new placed. Overall overdentures are way better than regular dentures. I had very bad dry mouth so only the denture powder worked for me. I still have food get stuck under denture. If I bite hard on one side it obviously unseats the denture. I don’t really notice them anymore unless I fall asleep with them in them my gums hurt really bad the next few days. Also I’m prone to oral thrush now.

I’m so tired of hearing dentists recommend the dental implants without talking about how most people can’t even afford them…most the time they have no choice but to let their bone dissolve because implants are SOO expensive.

That goop is why I don't wear my dentures except for special occasions. I do have my front teeth on the bottom, so I can eat most foods.

My mother hasn't had her teeth since she was maybe in her 40s and after a while she stopped using the goop because she got a set of dentures that fit well enough and she eats everything but apples and certain very sticky things like taffy.

My best friend has dentures and she HATES the glue! Sometimes her descriptions literally make me gag lol but she finishes her journey to implants this week!

Yeah, does not only stick to the roof of your mouth but also to real teeth. Used that stuff to fix fake fangs for a small private production back in the day. Held it tight enough I didn't have to take the fangs out to eat pizza and even was able to pierce through the cap of a beer bottle with them.

I have this problem. I am only 30 years old and have major problems with most of my teeth, or used to be teeth. I've always brushed twice a day and don't eat to much sugar but I was born 12 weeks premature and the medication they put me on back then ruined my teeth. I've always had bad teeth even baby teeth. It's very embarrassing for me. I don't look like someone who dosnt have teeth untill I smile

The thing they don't tell you is that a lot of denture adhesives have chemicals in them that has been known to kill people... some don't though you have to research. The people I know with dentures are lucky to have ones that stay pretty well with suction. Honestly dental care is so hard in the US. Unfortunately the people I know that have them came from aьusivе homes where their parents never took them to the doctor or dentist... ever. By the time they became adults the damage was already done 😢

Not all dentures need "goop" my husband was blessed with full top and bottom dentures from dental artist Arian Deutsch and he can eat steak with no goo. I emplore all dentists to check out his work and even take one of his clinics (if local to Arizona). What he is doing is life changing for people! Natural looking no goop needed dentures. He has gorgeous implantables too. An absolute artist!

To bad that implants are 20-40 thousand dollars, and most people can't afford them.

It's a shame. I was very lucky to get a great dentist who made an upper denture for me that fits like a glove. I have never had to use paste or adhesive, actually have to pry them off to soak at night, and can eat basically anything. The only downside was that I had to have 5 sets of impressions done, meaning 6 trips to the dentist. Though I did nothing but complain at the time, I am glad I stuck it out. This was in 2006 and still going strong👍

When I was little and lived with my grandma I ran out of toothpaste and she told me to go to her bathroom and use hers....I grabbed the tube I thought was a fun pink toothpaste with a chalky taste and within minutes my mouth was stuck shut and she couldn't stop laughing. I was lock jawed with fixodent toothpaste for a little over an hour it finally loosened up when I got to school

Not ‘nasty’ probably what she could afford at the time. I have veneers because I worked my arse off for em! I suffered irreversible damage to my natural teeth as a child because I was sick. The medicines caused me to have discoloured teeth with pigmented spots. I got veneers but not everyone can get them. Be kinder. I didn’t smile for years because I was so self conscious it’s awful hearing ‘nasty’ doing what she would have to do. Especially from a dentist.

I've had full dentures since 99. I've never had to use an adhesive, and can eat most things without a problem

I work at dentist office. And we r seeing lots of younger patients losing teeth and needing dentures. About 95% would love implants, but they are really expensive and a lot of insurance ‘s won’t cover them bc they are considered cosmetic. It’s sad.
