Play Boosters have been really bad for Sealed.

This set is super volatile for sealed. Only reason I went undefeated was because my fellow patrons weren't familiar with the top threats and I opened two slickshot showoffs. Every match was a nail biter with the number of early threats that dropped. WotC messed up badly with how they distributed the ratio of non Outlaws of thunder cards. It felt weird and wrong that I secured two match victories with a Crackle with Power (A card not even standard legal) after my opponent did their job and dealt with one or even sometimes both showoffs.

Some of it is just that this set doesn’t have its “boros aggro” type deck. Thats usually the remedy if you don’t pull bombs in sealed, but this time that’s not really an option. It’s hard to optimize everything for everyone , some people like bomb heavy formats, some like aggro formats.

My friend drafted Bonny Pall last night and in 8 games never got to play her. I milled him out with a grixis crimes mill deck once, and ate Bonny out of his graveyard with Lazav so he couldn’t bring her back

First game, going second, kept a 2 lander with seize the secrets and gardener in hand. Proceeded to not draw land for 7 turns and die. (17 land deck including mana fixing and draw). Second game, opponent ramps perfectly into Bonny Pall and I land flood. 2000 coins down the drain, love magic.

I got azz booted, nothing synergistic and bad mana, I really hate sealed with this plate booster crud. I wish they would go back to one rare per pack only but the fact that some people can get one and some people can get a bunch and extra stuff is total BS that just increases the luck factor and kills the skill factor. It’s total crap making it more like Pokémon card than a skill game, if they have to have more than one rare just standardize it. Every one of the rare has a chance of being a mythic or from the bonus sheet then uncommon and the rest. The fact that some people can get more than others is total bullshit. I think corporate greed is kicking in, but it’s definitely somewhat ruined the game of skill it used to be

In game two when deciding who to chump with, is there validity to chumping with Wolverine? If you draw any land you can put a +1/+1 counter on armadillo, bill pump twice, use bill to saddle the grizzly and swing for 23 trample vs 12 toughness and 11 life (8+food). Didn’t pan out either way with the prickly pair draw of course but I’m just spitballing a line.

Tbf 3 removals one of which costs 6 mana isn't optimal especially for such a bomb heavy format. Not anything you could do though, tough pool and games

Another bad thing about this much variance in sealed is the pressure you get when you're on the good side of it. Not everyone is a world class pro able to maximize any build, and you can also draw pretty badly or encounter even crazier pools, and go like 2-3 with insane rares, leaving you a sour taste in the mouth. Sure, much better have a great pool than a bad one, but still.

I played paper sealed with friends and my prerelease pack was absolute underwhelming. Had 10 rares including the promo rare. Most absolutely unplayable in limited.... My playable rares where vadmir, selvala, fblthp and outcaster trailblazer. But my green and white have been absolutely unplayable... Like around 7 green and 6 white cards in total. Had most cards in red and blue and almost no removal: had a thunder salvo, the red 3 mana - 4 damage spell and a stop cold. First Game I faced a dust animus into archangel of tithes. Next Game same match he dropped a stingerback terror. I stood absolutely no chance. Another friend pulled of terror of the peaks and had the jace as promo "rare". Sealed is absolute garbage with these formats

Going to comment before I see the rest of this. With that pool I would've been a greedy bastard and run the creosote heath and pylons to splash buried in the garden and fortune. This probably would've ended with a way worse record than he gets tho.

Sealed is VERY volatile with this set. 2, 3 and 4 mana bombs have dominance. Any and all decks needs to run either the best bomb with whatever way to enable or recure it or as much removal as you can manage. I forced white into my izzet deck to get access to fierce retribution and journey to nowhere. It's nutty.

yeah ive noticed he just doesnt really like sealed in general, but hes kind of right about this format in particular. feels very hard to win with a pile of commons and uncommons when others managed to open like half a million of on color rares. the bombs are just insane in this set. play boosters introducing even more variance didnt help either.
