Im doing a No Horses run, and that has been tough. Another one you can do is a Story Run, where you only use characters who have story associations. So Sharon and Ochlys go together. Josef, Chloe, Lex are together. Virginia and the Knights of the Rose together. The Tricorns (Berengaria, Travis, and Bruno) That one could be really fun. 👍👍

That's how I play normally lol. My endgame main unit on TZ was Alain, Scarlett, Lex, Chloe and Ridiel. Night unkillable, kills nearly anything. It's very fun trying to make lore combos work in gameplay.

Honestly. I just hope they'll add so challenge run sliders in an update. like you can set "x" gain or use to 0 or unlimited or randomize enemy squads or even level scaling

Here’s an idea: “Every Squad Needs *One* Generic At All Times” Run. Starting after you get Aubin, you must have enough generics to put no more and no less than one in every Unit; you can change them to whatever as long as this remains consistent. Which would also mean you’re immediately *not* going to have all your canon characters available; even if you’re expanding Units you’d probably have to bench them. And yes, you can Permadeath if you wish. I literally formed this right now, although it was simmering as I wondered how I could use Claudia in my own thing while not having to not use the original characters… and then thought, “Why not have full Units with one generic each?” And this solidified that even at 2 characters per Unit you’re not allowed to not have a generic (or more than just one…)

A cool challenge run idea that I might wanna try after I complete my second run to replace the first one I accidentally saved over is to build units entirely in a way that everyone has rapport with at least 2 other characters in the unit. It means you need to think more about how you build your units and often change things around as your units grow in size. Probably not the hardest challenge run but could be interesting. It'd also put a premium on characters like Alain and Scarlett that have a huge list of supports and make certain other really strong characters difficult to use well and is functionally a no generics playthrough

I saw someone make a "Women only" run here in yt. Its a little cheaty cause she needed to make Travid an honorary girl on the first few levels just so she could win a mission, but it was still fun to watch

I don't think I'm daring enough for mono-class, but was considering mount-only run. Promote Alain as soon as possible, only use him, Josef, Knights, Riders, etc.

I am nearly finished with a named character-only no-grinding Expert run, but now i really really want to do the opposite (kinda): minimum-recruit, as much grinding as i want, make squads as broken as possible using combos i've never felt able to before because i've felt like i need to max rapport synergy etc. really looking forward to the Dark Alain run tbh (TZ ofc)

I just did one I call Shifting Sands First where you do that as your first stage 11 level. So no detour for Rosalinde, no Cornix blade and you don't get Renault. It turned out a lot easier than I thought. Next I'm going to do Cornaria and then go to Elheim skipping Drakenhold. I'm interested to see if you can go to Bastorias by way of Cornaria then use the boat to try and backdoor Soldraga.

I’m told that it’s impossible to first enter Elheim from Albion *or* Drakenhold from Bastorias; to my knowledge you need to have liberated those areas, meaning you have to have already gotten there normally. Haven’t tested it, but if so it sadly makes sense…

I think you can get to Albion after having done Elfheim. There is a ship that goes to there. I don't know if you'll be able to do much from that direction though.

You’re locked out of the north-eastern third of Albion (as you need to open the gate from that side to traverse it), but technically you can finish the main plot… You just won’t get some stuff done, specifically fighting Bradley and recruiting Raenys.

I've done a lot of challenge runs in FF/FE so when I started UO I was seeing it's potential right away. I like to do female/male only runs or Alliance runs (like you do with your Holy Crusaders) so I'll go for that on my next run

Great vid and I agree it as well but I don't think I will doing any challenge run in the near future as I still have a lot of backlog games to clear. Some have been sitting for 1 to 2 years now.

There's even a pretty tough challenge mode built right into the game. It's the Bad Ending route. It requires you to beat the game without rescuing Scarlett, which severely limits your endgame options.

Are you using the Swordmasters to Summon? They’re not full-proof but they *do* come out level scaled, so…

How about a male only run? I 've a female only video that was pretty cool even if the game doesn't let you get through Aubin without the use if at least Travis and you can't get the good ending without Alain. But male only would be quite challenging without flying but possible, maybe lol

UM AKCHUALLY ☝🤓You Start in Albion on an island in the tutorial, so doing a reverse order would still *technically* be possible, since you *started* in Albion at the very beginning :V

@borjankosarac3645 unsure if this is a continuation of my joke, but if not- the problem with that is you can't access Elheim unless you rescue Scarlett, which is "finishing" Cornia. But I would like to see how going to Bastorias into Albion and taking the boat to Elheim would look. This actually sounds like it could be an interesting experiment. Also, how long until the game gives up, throws its hands in the air, and screams, "Fine! Scarlett's been mind controlled!!!" Because I've only ever really seen it by never ever leaving Cornia.

No, it’s exactly what you said… I wish we could do other stuff before Scarlett’s rescue, but for plot and character reasons Alain will pull But Thou Must on the player if they try to leave Cornia before that. I wish we could sequence break a bit, both so one could fight Norbelle without an absurdly high difficulty spike *and* so I could free Bastorias first, but it’s just not possible.

Also, to my knowledge you cannot take *either* the Drakenhold/Bastorias or Elheim/Albion boats the other way; mechanically it’s because you need to liberate the harbour from the Drake/El side first. This also means that you cannot *first* enter Elheim (aside the quarter with Ridiel) from outside Cornia; you need to have gotten Yahna and crossed the Winding Wood...Technically, only Bastorias and Albion can be first entered from another country (and you can only enter the latter's top third from the former, which is after you finish its main plot; can do the rest of it just not that one). EDITED for the fact that Drakenhold must also first be entered by Cornia... D'oh!

This joke is basically the Dead Horse of UO… Now, doing something like a *clockwise circle* of Cornia (so not getting Rolf/Bruno/Mordon until the end of the country), that’s more challenging. Or if you want the harem ending, give Colm the Ring; that’s the only way Melisandre can be both top concubine *and* top waifu, after all. :-D Yeah… I’m not as imaginative as I wish to be. ^.^

Give him a Parry shield and watch him run circles around enemy teams while making fliers and archers useless.
