Just because some hopefuls list the watches for 150k on Chrono24 does not mean they sell for that. Chrono24 is artificially feeding the hype with folks listing their goods at overinflated prices.

I know this Rolex is hyped… But the moment I saw it I instantly fell on love. Which is why it really bums me out that the prices have soared as much as they have which will only make it that much more difficult for me to ever get it. I’m an Irishman, and this watch just reminds me of my home. This watch looks like Ireland on the wrist. I find the green and gold combination to be absolutely striking. This has been a dream watch of mine for a while now, and I aspire to get it even if I have to pay a premium above retail (though will still fish for the right price) They call this the John Mayer Rolex, but I call it the Paddy’s day Rolex :p

I fell in love with this watch as soon as it was released. I was going to buy it at a discount but decided to wait a bit. Then John Mayer did his Hodinkee interview. Can't even get one now :-(

I owned a steel & gold 6-digit reference Daytona for a time. It's a nice watch, no doubt, and one of the most comfortable watches I've ever worn. But I ultimately sold it to fund another purchase because the watch was simply too hard to read, particularly in bright light. Granted, it's one man's opinion, but the watch struck me less as a watch you actually wore to use practically and more as a watch you wore because you wanted to be seen wearing it.

The new 2022 YG DayDate with green dial should have used this green, not the flat OP green. Then that watch could have been even better than this 116508.

When people treat Rolexes as an investment piece, it becomes like a stock market....Pump (grey market) and dump concept based on supply & demand ! Anyone have heard of stocks that has never ever crashed. Adjustments will settle in ! List prices and sold prices are 2 different things...list prices are continuing to be inflated.

Now just imagine if "Cosmograph"was printed in RED and "Daytona" was printed in WHITE instead! That watch would command a 1600% premium and have a waiting list of 8 years! Horology at its absolute finest.

It's a nice watch, apart from the cliched addition of red accents to indicate that it's "sporty". If you're immune to the Rolex marketing hype machine, there are better quality timepieces to be had for a lower price.

Watches are not investments and should never be. It is a sure way to ruin the passion for watch collecting.

Back in 2019 my local Rolex dealership told me that the Chinese community were buying up all the gold/green daytona's as green is a sign of good luck, and consequently they were not taking any more orders for the watch.

Another great, well thought out perspective on watches. Mostly agree that it’s not sustainable but… R could further limit fabrication of that variant so it could run longer. I have 1 microbrand chrono so wasn’t really interested in the Daytona. But then stopped by the AD to chat about the divers and make sure they knew I was still interested and he had me try on one of the Daytona exhibit pieces - wow!

Did anyone ever think about this being just a prelude to a massive hyperinflation (which is already beginning right now)? Meaning, at least to a certain extent, these watch prices are here to stay. BUT: You will pay tons more for everything else. If that will be the case, you probably better stick to property investment or very solid equities to evade.

I just want to say that I am not a Rolex fanboy, I am not a Daytona fanboy and I loved this watch since I saw it. I like the color combo, I like the red accents on the dial, and I think that it is a versatile piece. Just like the yellow gold Day Date, you can wear this with almost anything and the fact that the dial is green I think it makes it more versatile

Indeed, it seems Rolex is not going back now, when the world can only recognize this is the only watch brand that matters. Omega x Swatch Moonswatch might divert the attention but given the stock availability is so slow to meet overwhelming demand, it can kill the initial intention to get the world's attention.

They forgot to add "18k Yellow Gold" to the rest of the story they printed on the dial under the crown logo. There is such a thing as too much print on a dial face, and that one is ridiculous and gawdy looking. Other than that, it's a beautiful piece.

At this point, I could not care less about Rolex. There is nothing enjoyable about the experience with them anymore.

I'm always fascinated why such a big deal is made about the release of the colour of a watch resulting in hundreds to thousands of dollars price differences, when the mechanics are precisely the same, meaning, Rolex is for sure an in-demand-brand, but, Rolex is looking quite dated and only differentiates by material and colour, and the working components remain the same. There are far more exciting strides being made in the watch industry than to consider Rolex an aspirational purchase.

Personally I think the Tudor Black Bay 58 chronograph is a better looking watch. And, this year they’re making it in stainless and yellow gold, if gold is your thing. Personally I prefer stainless.
