This Is A Football (John Facenda, 1967) - Enhanced - 1080p/60fps

My thanks to Gregg Gibson who recorded this obscure NFL Films program from ESPN Classic on satellite TV in the early 2000's. I've taken that film and run it through Topaz to enhance the picture and double the framerate, then used Resolve to fix contrast and color a bit. Unfortunately this is the only copy of the film I've ever seen, so we're stuck with the TV logos and banners for now.

These classic "shows" or documentaries are so special and important to preserve and keep alive. They've literally have chronologically shown the total evolution of the sport that we've all loved. Heck I'd love to see this done with every sport to be honest.

That's why I've really enjoyed and recommend your channel to so many people. These legendary athletes should never be forgotten. Your ability to take games from 40-50 years ago and make them look like they were shown last week is incredible! Exceptional work sir!

They were originally shown on CLASSIC SPORTS NETWORK in 1996. ESPN bought them out, but sadly shut it down with the advent of NFL Network…

Can you imagine that there was time when football players didn't dance and celebrate after every play? When making a tackle meant you got up and walked back to the huddle without stopping to draw attention to yourself along the way. I can't even watch Danceball... I'm mean football... anymore.

Well said. And yes I can imagine it because I lived through it thankfully. I grew up in the 1970s. The game today is just unwatchable at times. The respect, dignity, and attitude towards being a professional football player in the NFL went right out the door. owners and coaches obviously do not care. Neither does the commissioner. The over excessive showboating is just part of the game now.

Its so natural to connect Facenda with NFL Films. I understand, though, that he was not at all a football fan, but he loved opera!

I didn't expect the Sabols to miss out on the one description of an American football most folks don't know or recall: Its shape is that of a "prolate spheroid." My brother won a "Duke" at a 1967 Dolphins preseason practice. He begged me not to take it outside and throw it around, but the neighborhood kids found out and dared us to show it to them. I did and they proceeded to scuff it up by throwing it around on the street! Still feel a bit guilty about that.

I agree! Especially the older 50's, 60's, and 70's videos. I remember those from going to the Green Bay Packers Hall of Fame when I was a kid with my Grandparents. Beautiful memories.

I could watch these old NFL films narrated by John Facenda all day !! I am glad to see that the NFL players no longer have to work at other jobs during the off season (unless they want to) since about the early to mid 1970's.

I had not seen this one before. I think some of the Bernie Casey film was used in one of the "Lost Treasures" episodes (combined with a contemporary interview with Bernie). RIP Bob "Boomer" Brown.

Had anything evolved so much but changed very little over a century? First used to "carry", then streamlined to hold it better, then made more aerodynamic to throw and "FLY" like it can now. It may only be a game but it has been loved by billions and billions of people! This was a really cool documentary!

@@davevolskysbackdoor5673 on an 1969 episode of TWIPF Pat Summerall almost did the same opening word for word introducing "The Duke" that Gifford did two years before. BTW the feature was cut out. I'm not certain what week of the season was.

It's a sissy game now.i know it's still physical and these guys are elite athletes and take nothing away from them.but you never hear today's players talking about ," afflicting pain" on other players.

This video was good up until the end of it when what appeared to be a pre-season game between the Los Angeles Rams and the then expansion New Orleans Saints was being played. During the game the voice of Bernie Casey was droning on and on he sounded like he was weirding and tripping out like he was some stoned out hippie. The game film was interspersed and spliced with lustful views of young ladies performing in the halftime show along with annoying clanging of symbols. Pardon my language, but what the fluff was that last part of this video supposed to be about ? What was its purpose and meaning ? The end of this video was just nonsensical gibberish.
