The fact that I can't get paid for my own data being sold should be illegal. I wonder if it's like that in any other buyer/seller market where the seller is getting product for effectively free and making more than 100% profit.

They need to stop with fines. The real fine should be 50% of the company's revenue for the next 3 years.

I mean this not hyperbolically, why did AT&T have all of its previous users data? It should be standard for all companies to delete previous customers data.

Maybe instead of fining companies for commiting crimes, shut them down.

I got a scam call not long ago, I don't remember what it was supposedly about, but they knew my mom's name. The only way that my mom's name is connected to my phone number would be the fact that my phone is on her US Cellular account. Which leads me to believe that they sell customers' information. It bothers me that we're paying about $100/month to a company that has no regard whatsoever for our privacy. Not sure about the technical legality of this but it sure doesn't feel ethical. At all.

The sharing or selling of personal data should be strictly illegal and we should not have to pay money to keep our personal information private.

This is a massive wake-up call! We really need to pay attention to where and how our data is being used. It's terrifying to think about how many companies have access to our private information.

Back in the day phones were, considered a utility. The only reason this is happening is because phones are privatized. If phones were still utilities just like any regular old Joe they wouldn't be able to call up the water company and get your information... And you'd still have the right to access it!
