The tibialis anterior muscles are probably the most overlooked because they just aren't very visible. But they're extremely important for avoiding shin splints and knee pain. And since band exercises can be good for physical therapy they aren't great for building real strength, so that's why I recommend doing this kettlebell exercise as it is a lot better for building real strength.

To add onto this, you can angle your foot in different ways to target different areas around your tibia. I usually do 3 different positions, foot pointed to the left, straight, and to the right and I do all of these sets in a row for a good burn.

I've been trying to visualize how to do this optimally and did try this and didn't care for it. But! I wasn't hiking my leg up, changing the angle of my foot, and so the kettlebell felt so precarious. I'll try it after this sauna sesh with a foam roll. Thanks dude!

So far I've been doing bodyweight reverse calf raises to failure for the tibialis anterior, but as it now takes me 25-40 reps to fail I think I'll finally try this out. If I like it it's definitely going in my program.

I'm thinking the hamstring curl machine could be used to train this muscle. And how much gains potential does this muscle actually have? i'm curious.

Yes mostly likely to some degree. More importantly it will strengthen your knees and make you less injury prone
