This is How Much SCHD You Need to Retire (And How Soon)

In this video, I’m going to show you how much you need in order to retire off SCHD and also how soon you'll be able to retire. SCHD is currently one of the most popular dividend-growth ETFs among investors, for several really good reasons. It currently offers the highest dividend yield among many of the most popular dividend-growth ETFs that exist. And if you happen to be interested, I recently did a video where I compared the most popular dividend ETFs to each other, looking at a bunch of different metrics, including dividend growth, diversification, overall returns, and so on:
• Which Dividend Growth ...
But in this video, we’re going to see how quickly someone would be able to retire from their job and live solely off the dividend distributions of SCHD. For this video, we’re going to make a couple of assumptions. First, we’re going to assume that SCHD is the only investment you have in your portfolio. Now, because this is a diversified ETF, if someone wanted to only invest in SCHD, then I really wouldn’t see much of an issue with that. I always advocate for having multiple investments in your portfolio, but SCHD currently holds 104 different dividend-paying stocks. So if SCHD were the only thing someone wanted to hold, then that would be sufficient, in my opinion. Second, we’re going to assume that you’ll want to make $100,000 a year in dividends. I know that sounds like a lot of money, and if you want to aim to live off less, then that’s great. But as we’ll see, depending on the number of years in the future, a hundred grand might not be as well off as you’d likely be now.

The S&P 500 moved 8.9% higher in November, achieving one of its best monthly performances in history.. which is an indicator for profits to continue to improve. I just want my money to keep outgrowing the inflation rate. I'm still looking for companies to make additions to my $500K portfolio, to boost performance. Here for ideas...

I think the safest strategy is to diversify investments. Like spreading investments across different asset classes, like bonds, real estate, and international stocks, they can reduce the impact of a market meltdown

Agreed, It's essential to diversify your portfolio. While quality stocks are a solid foundation, you should also consider other assets to spread risk. Thankfully, I can attest to the success of this approach aided by professional guidance seeing my portfolio of $330k grow by 29% this year alone... maybe you should do the same.

Consequently, for the past seven years, I have enlisted the services of a fiduciary who actively manages my portfolio to adapt to the current market conditions. My advice for dividend investors is to save for a bigger investment if you really want to retire off dividends. My major picks are SCHD, TSLA, NVDA and a few more that i can't mention. My investment manager John Desmond Heppolette, is really strict on discretion, anyway i digress. You can't expect to make a million from a thousand dollar investment that's where most people get it wrong, It's not a lottery!! Make realistic investments!! People say it's good to be greedy while investing. Yes, i agree but there's a difference between being greedy and being delusional haha. For example last year I invested about $80k in dividends growth stocks and made about $246k, but guess what? I put it all back and traded with him again and now I'm rounding up to millions.

Imo investing the 50 grand in high growth tech stocks would be a much better move since you have 30 years. I actually sold all of my SCHD because the returns weren’t high enough for my high dividend portfolio. Passive growth is good for people like myself who are retiring and want monthly and quarterly income for bills. Diversification is key….high interest money markets, crypto, high growth tech stocks and high interest passive equities is how I’ve been investing and have done very well with this strategy. But it’s key to have a large nest egg. I can see how the wealthy keep growing their portfolio even in bad times. I do the opposite of what most financial advisers tell me to do, lol

Further, today you would need about 2.5 million to pull 100K annually from SCHD at 4.1%. i really think they are more like 3.7%. however you could skim from the capital growth and probably get the 4.1. I may have missed something. If so, please point it out.

At what age do you recommend someone just sell off everything and just live off that? For example someone who is pretty old and doesn't want to leave behind a large some of money in stocks when they die? I mean if your pushing 70 or more do you really need a million dollars stashed away in the stock market just for the sake of the dividend or can you just live off the million bucks.

If Schwab goes BK...SCHD-These funds are set up as trusts or in a similar manner. If the investment adviser goes bankrupt, they have no access to the assets in the fund, which are held by an unaffiliated custodian. If the sponsor liquidates the fund, you'd get cash for your shares. But this only happens with small, unsuccessful funds, which doesn't describe SCHD........Short version they sell everything and you get cashed out. Long version from investopedia Shareholders typically receive notification of the liquidation between a week and a month before it occurs, depending on the circumstances. The board of directors, or trustees of the ETF, will approve that each share is individually redeemable upon liquidation since they are not redeemable while the ETF is still operating; they are redeemable in creation units. Investors who want "out" of the fund upon notice of the liquidation sell their shares; the market maker will buy the shares and the shares will be redeemed. The remaining shareholders would receive their money, most likely in the form of a check, for whatever amount was held in the ETF. The amount of the liquidation distribution is based on the net asset value (NAV) of the ETF. The liquidation, however, can create a tax event, if the funds are held in a taxable account. This may force an investor to pay capital gains taxes on any profits received that would have otherwise been avoided.

Its worse here, our economy is like a flailing fish, fighting for its life. The normal state of the U.S. economy is actually very bad. Because of this it goes into convulsive spasms fighting to grow any way it can out of desperation. Tricks, gimmicks, rule changes try to stimulate the economy and prevent it from falling but they only bring temporary relief to people since, when you factor in inflation we are declining.
