@brodricj3023
@brodricj3023 2 жыл бұрын
ATC comms is straight forward. In controlled airspace it's all standard ICAO phraseology and reporting. Outside controlled airspace you must also be in contact with a flight service unit whether VFR or IFR. The reports are: taxiing (which activates the SAR watch), departure report, enroute position report, circuit area arrival, landed (which cancels SAR watch).

Hi Ryan! You always have very precise mass&balance calculations. When flying cargo it's easy, but what when you are flying passengers? @missionaryBushPilot Ryan, obviously with regards to smaller aircraft like the Kodiac, when you are carrying passengers, and weight is really critical, do the passengers have to get weighed beforehand? Or is there a generic set 'weight per person' average? Because obviously, it would be quite a considerable difference between having someone that weighs 60kg, and someone weighing 120kg. I mean obviously your cargo will be weighed beforehand, like that fuel drum you carried, do your passengers get weighed?

Do you use 1.8 nm and 500 ft as your only reference point? I've only done 30 or so hours in power, but 500+ in gliders and a 20:1 slope makes a good high speed final glide for a 40+:1 best L/D aircraft e.g. about 90 to 115 knots in a DG1000, depending on weight. I work from 300 ft per nm (2.82 deg) or 500 ft per 3 km (2.91 deg), and (airspeed/2)*10 as the descent rate to maintain it e.g. 350 FPM at 70 knots, 500 FPM at 100 knots etc.

No, just into Goroka. Other places I use key positions.

@@MissionaryBushPilot I mean at Goroka, or other certified airfields with approaches ... Morseby, Wewak, Hoskins ... not in the bush.

Mixing Kg’s for payload and pounds for fuel doesn’t that create a potential miscalculation ?

not when you have an app that does all the calculations. It's just a number your putting into the matrix.

Comforting to know spreadsheets and apps are used to calculate weights and balances, CG etc. I would have hated to relied on a stressed pilot who might have got his calculations wrong in the old “Manual” days. Especially on those runways where the margin for error cannot be very much.....

I am thankful too. There is just too much room for error when it comes to human math
