Doesn't matter if an officer does things correctly 9/10 times if that 1 time is as bad as that imo. Only getting a C- after having just tried shaming and threatening a victim of a crime is too much to allow them to continue doing that job imo. If there had been no marks on his body, and she had lied about the interaction, he could have been the one getting arrested with their attitude about the situation.

Imagine if they did that to a woman? Woman’s groups would make a huge public outcry (and rightly so) but us men still would never do that. As it’s seen as shameful and is treated like this cop treated it. It has nothing to do with power and strength. He could kill her if he wished. But for whatever reason he won’t defend himself. Many reasons for that.

I cannot speak of the Portland PD in general, but I was amazed that they not only showed up swiftly, but also did NOT attempt to criminalize me, but, in fact, asked me if I wanted to press charges. I'm usually pretty anti-establishment, but I think I must call out the two unnamed officers that took my call seriously, gave me the opportunity to get my things in order, and, in fact, asked me if I wanted to press charges (I did not; we have children). Is it surprising that citizens are reluctant to engage with the police for any reason now? It's always the same, the cops show up, immediately escalate the situation and say a bunch of crap that isn't true, treat everyone involved like a criminal regardless of what actually happened, then when their ego eventually gets bruised they look for any reason to make an arrest no matter how ridiculous or petty. They never actually do anything to de-escalate or protect their community, it's always about protecting their ego.

I myself was threatened with losing my son after his "father" a**sed me. I had gone to the ER because my hand was so swollen I thought it was broken. My sister had called the law on him, and a cop just barged into the ER where I was receiving care to question me. I wasn't even in a private room. I was in the hall where every patient there could hear and see me while I recounted the hours of hell I went through that night. He threatened to take my son for child endangerment if I didn't tell him what happened. I quote him now, "You will tell me what happened, or I will make sure you never see your child again", and with these words I was forced to retell everything while I could hear the whole hall go silent with everyone cranning their ears to hear every bit of my ordeal as if it was theirs to relish in. I felt so exposed, and battered again. It took me a long time to process this on top of what I had been through. The sad part is, I had no intentions on being with this man again, and every intention on getting me and my son out. This was actually the first and last time his "father" did this to me, and I was determined for it to be this way because my son has always been my priority. This cop treated me like it was my fault this happened, but I didn't ask for this. If he would've just dealt with me with respect and compassion I'm sure I would've actually pressed charges myself after I had time to process what was going on because it all happened so fast. It disgusts me when victims are treated this way. We don't deserve to be a**ed by the very people we should trust to stop it.

I was a victim of domestic abuse from my ex girlfriend, she got mad because I was kicking her out of my house when I found out she cheated on me, and I lived in Vidor, TX and she hit me multiple times and knocked the glasses off my face so hard it made my nose bleed. My neighbors called the cops when they heard the argument, and when the cops showed up they threatened to take me to jail for me telling them to leave when I seen that they were not interested in me filing potential battery charges on her. They didn't even stay to make sure she left my house, she didn't have any bills and wasn't on any lease agreement, and I explained multiple times that I just wanted her gone. I couldn't even get them to put a no trespassing order on her. After she vandalized another girls car 3 months after our break up, that was parked outside my house, I finally got a restraining order against her but it felt like pulling teeth. Sorry buddy, but that just is not how the law works, when evicting an ex girlfriend. You don't get to just have people removed on the spot. You have to file papers, and give them notice. I'm sure she was awful, but these laws must apply to everyone, even people who are great. Think of the reverse situation and it is you who is being asked to leave, on the spot, with no notice. I'm sure you would find that difficult as well, depending on your financial situation that day.

@@Tijuanabill He said she didn't have any bills and wasn't on the lease. And if domestic abuse is being committed, he could get an emergency no contact order and she wouldn't be able to set foot there (if the law worked the way it's supposed to). I have known of a few men that were kicked out of their home in one of those three ways and half of them weren't even actually beating their partner, the woman just claimed that they were and the police arrested them. The police never called me to see if everything was okay, but they called her multiple times over the following week to check on her to make sure she was okay. The videos showed her being the abusive one, and me trying to get away from her or begging her to stop. To say the cops took the side of the abuser and completely dismissed the victim in my case is beyond a joke. They couldn't have been any more unprofessional.

The girlfriend, at least in any footage shown, wasn't spoken to in such a disparaging way. She kicked the officer in the face, etc., and they remained calm. That's great, except for the fact that they basically implied the boyfriend was a weak little loser. And, despite all of her behavior, she was cuffed in the front! Makes it a lot easier to kick a window and bash hands against a window when a subject is cuffed in this manner. Men need to start supporting male DV victims and survivors. This is disgusting. I’ve seen the video before. 😡 “I don’t want to be the victim.” Damn. That spoke volumes. I’m a survivor; I know how that feels.

I have personally witnessed a female beating the living shit out of her then boyfriend while he was trying to walk away from her and get away from her. He never laid a hand on her whatsoever. If he is suspected of being a witness to a crime and refuses to ID it is criminal. The cops were a-holes in how they talked to him but not technically wrong in this case as there was reasonable suspicion that he was a witness or victim to a crime.

@@freddispaghettifair enough points. If the jack wagon cop had bothered to explain it that way instead of "we got a call that you're a pussy ass little bitch who gets beat by a girl, give us your id or we'll arrest you" Legal compliance is alot easier to ask for when properly explained, or even when just not being an antagonistic dick about it. On the other hand, I mostly don't understand the general refusal to id when asked. Is it stupid to have to id when you haven't committed a crime (that you know of) ? Yes. But pick and choose your battles. They can and will arrest you afterwards and then one way or the other get your id anyway. So you bring unnecessary trouble on yourself for refusing and you give them low hanging fruit justification to protect and serve you raw and hard and as rough as possible. While twisting your arms like pretzels and tazing you as they curb stomp your face while screaming to stop resisting. You may well get a lawyer later and eventually get a settlement, but is it worth it to go through all of that? I mean, if you're going to refuse, then do it the smart way and affirm your 4th and then take the 5th and keep your mouth shut. Don't give them anything that could give them the benefit of the doubt later on that they could use to muddy up the waters.

I gotta give her credit for taking accountability for her actions. People don’t realize that under the Violence Against Women Act the courts get funding if they arrest a male, but have to spend their own budget to prosecute a woman. That’s why they almost always arrest the male.

To hopefully clarify why a officer needs a date of birth. I used to live in a city where there was another man with the same name first middle and last his birthday was one day off from mine his birth year was 10 years younger however I kept getting served from collection agencies and the state for child support for him and had police at my door several times looking for him. Had the state and collection agencies done their jobs they would have figured out that I wasn't the one they were looking for.

Cant speak for the United States, but over here in the UK the police CAN legally compel a witness to give their details; failure to do so is an offence; however they cannot force you to give a statement or to 'participate in an investigation' as you put it. Id imagine that each of the states has a similar requirement, he can give his details then plead the 5th as long as he wants to and he would be completely legally above board, especially given the Dom-Violence element of this incident.
