Heat Check

Heat Check

3 жыл бұрын

The details surrounding the epic meltdown that the Sixers experienced against Atlanta are hilarious and flat out hard to believe. Some of the stats that we’re about to go through are just staggering.
Let me explain exactly what I mean by that. What up everybody, my name is Stefan and this is Heat Check. Let’s get into it.
We saw the Hawks come back from being down 26 points in the third quarter. But how many of you noticed that Philly only had 2 guys make a field goal for the entire second half? Wait what?!
In 24 minutes, the only guys that made a basket for the home team were Seth Curry and Joel Embiid.
Curry pretty much carried them offensively down the stretch shooting 9 for 12 from the field ending with 36 points overall, a great game for him.
But just take a look at this: After dominating the first half going 9 for 11, Embiid decided that he wouldn’t punish Atlanta anymore, so compare the shooting charts from the 2 halves, and you see all of this activity in the paint, opposed to these random shots from downtown, the long 2’s, and you understand the modest 3 for 9 in the second half.
I talked about this exact issue with him just 2 videos ago. These are unguardable. He cannot be stopped if he decides to get a basket down low.
Why would you want to bail the defense out and give the opposing team a chance by jacking up low percentage shots like these? At this point it’s mind boggling how he can be so aggressive and in the blink of an eye completely change his attitude.
Anyway, speaking of being aggressive, after losing the last game, Ben Simmons talked about how he needed to step up and change his approach.
BEN SIMMONS INTERVIEW
Well, he followed his 11 points from game 4 with 8 points in game 5, so yeah I guess that whole thing about being more aggressive went out the window.
And Atlanta really made his time on the court miserable. They employed the hack-a-Ben strategy and it worked out perfectly for them. Simmons shot 4 for 14 from the foul line. 4 for 14.
Honestly it was tough to watch him knowing he would get fouled and then take the long walk to the line. At one point when he finally made one, the camera showed a fan encouraging him and coaching him how to continue on with his hot streak. And here’s a quick spoiler for you if you didn’t watch the game: The streak ended right there, as Ben missed the second free throw.
Want some wild numbers and stats? Check this out:
Ben Simmons became the first guard in NBA history to miss 10 free throws in a playoff game.
And look at this list for the worst free throw percentage by a player in a single playoff run:
Number 1 you got Ben Wallace with 27.3% during the Pistons ‘06 playoff push.
Then just behind him in second it’s Simmons with 32.8% that he’s shooting in this postseason.
Maaan 32.8 that’s rough.
Now I feel like this could carry over to the next game as well, since the Hawks clearly saw that this strategy is working and they will definitely try it out again.
Ben could definitely be hurt psychologically since now he expects it as well, and will always have it in the back of his mind.
Remember this moment from yesterday’s video, right?
BARKLEY GIANNIS MOMENT
So let’s keep an eye on this and see how he responds in game 6.
Obviously the talent is there overall. The Sixers are covered at every position. The defense is superb, but there are a lot of things missing obviously and the consistency isn’t there for a team that wants to compete for a championship.
And I know that this video is about the struggles for Philly, but I have to mention the phenomenal effort by the Hawks, specifically by Lou Will and Trae Young.
Lou initially sparked this epic comeback scoring 13 out of his 15 points in the 4th quarter.
Constantly putting the pressure on the defense and hitting shot after shot, they started to cut into the lead little by little.
So as they got within striking distance, you know exactly who took over. Ice Trae scored 13 points in the last 5 minutes of the game. Talk about being clutch and taking over with the game on the line.
And I love the fact that he actually drilled into the defense and scored the majority of these points right in the paint.
So now all of a sudden the Atlanta Hawks go on their home court with an opportunity to win this series. I don’t think anyone expected that.
Whatever happens, they’ve certainly earned the respect of NBA viewers and we’ll see how things play out for them.
That’s it for now, subscribe and talk to you in the next one. Peace out.

He is an elite guard tf are you talking about, it's like you'd said that draymond green wasn't an elite forward in 2016
3 жыл бұрын
@@HDanalis he’s not even a real guard, by definition. I played PG and you are demanded to be able to organize, pass, drive and SHOOT. Otherwise, defenses can float on you and give you those extra feet because they know you’re not shooting. Simmons has no long or mid range game. He excels in transition attack, drive and kick and if that’s something that actually works in the league these days, fine, but that doesn’t make him a good PG. If anything, he’s a short PF with passing skills and terrible free throw percentage.
3 жыл бұрын
Ricky Rubio has been made fun of for not being able to shoot 3s for years and he had much better percentages than Simmons, FFS. But he still had the mid range and elite passing, and managed to improve his 3Pt% in recent years. Again, how can anyone excuse that a guy who is at least a potential franchise player can’t make a single field goal and be such a terrible FT shooter?

It is not Ben. Dude was NEVER a scorer. Not in highschool nor college. Why do y'all expect him to start scoring now??? He was drafted because he was a true PG. He can facilitate. The problem is embiid thinks he is the pg and sg. Ben Simmons is an assist machine when embiid is not in the game. He can properly move the ball but soon as embiid gets back in the game, the ball movement slows down. Watch a few games where embiid is hurt and doesn't play and you will see why they drafted Ben. You will see how his assists go through the roof compared to when embiid ball hogging ass plays.

@jamesputman4941 3 жыл бұрын
@@Yui-ee9mw the fact that they still paid him even though he could not shoot says it all. No excuses made. You get drafted and paid for what you CAN do. And what he CAN do is assist/facilitate/develop plays. What do y'all not understand about that? This should be common sense. The sixers still drafted this guy after watching his highschool and college highlights, knowing he couldn't shoot so what does that tell you?? You think they drafted him then went back and watched the tape?? That would be some idiot shit. Why do y'all think they have positions anyway? PGS were not scorers, they were the mfs who develop the plays. These new hybrid pgs got y'all not understanding the game. if your logic is correct than shoot everybody is PG capable which would make the pg position obsolete. But guess what, everybody can't develop plays, everybody can't get their own shots. Everybody can't score. That's why each position has its own unique specifications. Look up what a PG is suppose to do and tell me if Ben Simmons does not excel in those areas...I'm done trying to explain things to you people who are not really fans of the game itself. Ben Simmons really needs a jumpshot, even a midrange is good enough because all they're gonna do is lay off simmons to either double Embiid or play help defense. If the 6ers do loose this series, we may see them shipping simmons somewhere else.

If Simmons doesn’t get his FT percentage up to at least 60% he is an absolute liability for the sixers during crunch time and the Hawks should definitely take advantage of that also I make videos as well

@@Celtics2024WrldChamps difference is Capela isn’t throwing like Simmons is. Capela knows his role and plays it well. Simmons is primarily playing the guard spot so he needs consistent jumper and it’s showing within his foul shooting. Simmons says he needs to be more aggressive but yet isn’t doing so and it’s because he’s afraid to shoot foul shots and going 4-14 shows me that exactly, the facts are all there so I’m not sure what more proof people need that’s Simmons needs a reliable shooting stroke.

Ben couldn't be like draymomd. Green can shoot 3pts & better at FT. Uses reads and smarts, not all length in defense & offense... SETH cant be like steph.. Older brother has too many ways to shoot the ball accurately, better handles, better vision, has more active hands, better anticipation on passes, and have excellent nose for the ball to get those loose balls & rebounds.... Steph twice led the league in steals and a career 5+ rebs for a not athletic enough guard who is excellent im positioning himself for those oppptunities... steph's conditioning & upper body strength is off the chart for a 6'3" PG who is utilize too much on the court.. Seth is roughly 6'2"..not disrespecting seth, it is just no comparison to be like his older brother, except probably the shooting accuracy... And that also is questionable to compare obviously...

I think Ben is just built for the regular season. It might have been a couple of seasons ago, he single handedly lowered the +- of the whole team every time he was on the floor. The holes in his game are exploited by other teams. The seemingly apparent refusal to work on his jumper is mind blowing. The man could have been so much more in the league.

His ft shooting can be improved by moving his right arm to the ball and straightening out his alignment. Hes using his left shooting arm to bring the ball to his right causing a knuckler ball type rotation. As far as embiid s 2nd half disappearance it may be a question of fatigue, injury, or both. Or fear of the big moment underneath.
