Hey Pippen, have you heard of SpaceEngine ? @@ritsh_ Elite Dangerous is FAR from being as good as SpaceEngine when it comes to simulating the whole universe realistically, SpaceEngine simulates the entire universe seamlessly 1:1 scale, not just the milky way, but the entire observable universe. Every single galaxy, every single asteroid, moon, planet, black hole, nebula, star, etc. I never played Elite Dangerous, but as far as I know you can just travel through the universe seamlessly without loading screens like in SE Also you have nowhere as much details in Elite Dangerous like you do in SpaceEngine. SpaceEngine even tells you the atmospheric composition, ocean composition, and internal composition of every single planet moon or asteroid. That being said, Elite Dangerous is a cool space game for sure, but SE is far superior when it comes to being a realistic and accurate 1:1 scale space exploration simulator

What about using "BigInteger"s for coordinates? It's theoretical limit is ±2^2147483647 which is *way* beyond the size of the observable universe (diameter of 8.8 * 10^26 meters). Sure, it would take a lot of RAM when dealing with long distances, but it should work. The real other issue would be the size of the world in terms of disk space. The only way to generate the entire universe is to NOT store all of it. This means that it would need a real time universe generator

A computer being unable to simulate a galaxy is an understatement. Depending on how much you want to simulate things, a computer can't ever even simulate itself If you want to simulate every transistor, then how would you possibly simulate something with your resource, that's like painting a real size image of a wall but only with paint from the wall.

use Hubble data at different angles pointing away from earth and convert that data into cubic coordinates. Have an AI match the block to it's closest color in the image picture and place blocks that those coordinates. This method could easily and quickly generate a Minecraft version of our real life sky. Then use this to generate 3D skybox. Note - this method could be improved by importing the position, angle, direction, and, color image from Hubble or James Webb of the 1000 brightest objects in the nights sky. Then the skybox would have approximate distances between galaxies and stars improving the depth effect.

If you want to experience something similar to this, the game Megaton Rainfall has (aside from the solar system i believe) a procedurally generated universe, at a point in the story you're given the ability to travel at many times the speed of light and can visit pretty much anything, it works kind of how you described, when you get far enough away from a planet/galaxy the scale changes. You can visit individual planets in far away galaxies, though making it to anywhere significant such as Proxima Centauri or the Andromeda Galaxy are basically a pipe dream, there is secret dialogue in the game when you fly in a straight line for a while stating you could never reach the edge of the universe because you are far too slow to make it in any reasonable amount of time. Even still you could fly around for hours exploring different planets, though its pretty much all just barren spheres of varying colour, it very interesting non the less. I would also be neglectful not to mention Elite: Dangerous in which you can travel anywhere in the Milky Way Galaxy, plus both these games are playable both in VR and not.

I will say, one game comes to mind when I think of our galaxy: Elite Dangerous While you have to use Faster Than Light travel (FTL) to get between solar systems, everything is to scale. It would take someone at least a week, using a neutron star highway (neutron stars boost FTL range), to get from Earth to Sagittarius A* (the supermassive blackhole in the center of our galaxy). The distance between planets and stars are accurate. In game, it takes an hour to travel to Alpha Centauri from Proxima Centauri, and you can’t use FTL travel because Alpha and Proxima Centauri share a solar system. It took my days to travel from one end of civilized space to the other, and civilized space is only a fraction of the galaxy. You all should really try the game. I am warning you, there is a bit of grinding and space politics. Players can have an effect on ingame politics, and vice versa. And making money can be easy with the right meta method, but buying your high-end ships will take weeks of nonstop grinding

12:48 Astronphysics student here: There actually are large-scale simulations made to simulate the structures of the universe as we observe it out there. We call these cosmological simulations, with the most well known ones including Eagle, Illustris, Illustris TNG and SIMBA. These work in the the following principle: 1. Populate your universe with a bunch of dark matter particles (we deal with dark matter first cause it is easier to simulate and dominates all matter, which means it dictates most of the actions of regular matter), each many millions times the mass of the sun 2. Calculate the gravitational interactions between all particles with all other particles, and step time forward gradually 3. Map the density patterns of simulated dark matter onto a bunch of regular matter particles, and then simulate the interactions of those particles as well And voila, you have a somewhat low resolution simulated universe, complete with things that looks like galaxies, clusters of galaxies and the cosmic web. So in theory, if someone where able to convert the position and density of matter in one of these sims, we will know where to place our galaxies. Next, there are methods out there that can predict the brightness, colour (red/blue), size, shape/morphology, etc of galaxies given their mass, age and histories. With this, we can have a good idea how to populate those galaxy positions we acquired. At this point, we will already have a good approximation of the cosmic structure down to the galaxy scale of the universe in minecraft. But if you want to go further down, there are similar simulations focused on smaller scales, e.g. groups/pairs/single galaxies, regions within galaxies (e.g. giant molecular cloud), all the way down to the solar neighbourhood, so we can in theory populate the internal structures of our galaxies with those simulations too. Anyways, this is already a long comment, but the main idea is, it IS possible already.

I expect this from someone like Sciencefile. Not PippenFTS. It really makes me realize how amazing Minecraft is. This game will be talked about for decades. Could you imagine the greatest construction project in human history being creating a 1 to 1 model of the universe in Minecraft? And it would take the effort of 1 billion for the span of centuries with each generation of builders passing down their responsibility to the next generation of an exponentially increasing number of people to complete it.

Just amazing how you sick you can expand this into philosphical talk again. This person is amazing for building the universe in Minecraft, pure beuty seeing all these lights and yes having these builds in the sky of Build The Earth would make it so cool. Maybe not the entire universe rebuild, but really, I don't think my goals what I want to see in my lifetime are that high... on the other hand, we thought it would take decades for someone to make universe builds....

11:34 "but if there was truly nothing, there's no theoretical limit to how far our eyes could see." Yes, there is a limit. 14:18 "and in reality, we would only be able to view this event with the obnoxiously limited gelatinous orbs stuck in our skulls." i love your videos man - you just can't be contradicting yourself. Amazing video though

The universe has always amazed me since i was a baby but the one thing that questions me the most is that the observable universe is so big that we cant be the only loving thing and we cant be the only thing alive and people say we are alone in the universe but they i dont think that we are truly alone in this amazing and wonderful universe
