@@TheSmileFetcher1961 I know I think it’s the best guitar opening in music history. Led Zeppelin is probably the best band of all time in my opinion. Oh the memories. I remember how exciting it was when a new album came out. Mom would always buy it for this bratty kid. My brother was in Viet Nam and wrote to me about a Beatles channel he listened to. Unfortunately he never got to to hear their last 2 albums, Abbey Road and Let It Be.

From a business aspect, they had their first version of Revolution on the White Album and their producer George Martin suggested it would be a great single if it was rocked up. The album version is slow, laid back, and embellished with a lavish horn section. Quite a bit different from what most people think of when they hear the song. So since John said they were trying to say something about a peaceful Revolution in a world with so much violent revolutions going on at the time, he and Paul came up with the kicked up tempo and making all the guitars distorted. The result, along with Helter Skelter on the album, is the beginnings of hard rock/heavy metal.

This is a mixture of the single version (45 rpm 7-inch b-side of 'Hey Jude') and the album (The Beatles 'White Album'). The instrumentals were recorded in the studio (from the single version) but they sang the vocals live for a television show, with lyrical changes coming from the album version. One of the most powerful Beatles songs for sure. The guitars and drums of songs like 'Revolution' and 'Helter Skelter' went right through the bones... and then suddenly 'Blackbird' or 'In My Life' pops up. Awesome versatile band.

In the 60s, during the "Revolution," the vast vast majority of protesters (as it is today) wanted a peaceful solution to war, civil rights, etc. There were groups like SDS who wanted a more violent solution. The Beatles leamed towards a peaceful revolution (solution) and to look within yourself to be a better personal solution. " better free your minds instead." If we had hatred and violence in our hearts, we canot be a solution, and we are prisoners of our own minds. As the Moddy Blues wrote, "Revolution never won; it's just another form of gun to do again what they have done ...". Great song, and thanks for choosing it today.

This was the flip side of Hey Jude, but a live version. On the single certain background vocals were not here, like the " Um shoo-be -" which was on the slow version on the White Album. This song is still strangely applicable. "If you go carry pictures of Chairman Mao, you ain't gonna make it with anyone anyhow." A generation after WW2, the west was still fighting against some of those powers. The Soviets had the Berlin Wall in Germany and the Iron Curtain everywhere else. Cuba had just been turned communist. China was still killing their own people by the millions, engaged at this point in a "Cultural Revolution," and in general communism was stomping around the world killing people. Naturally, numerous people in the west were sympathetic to the communists, and this was the Beatles speaking out against that.

Only the vocals are live. They're singing to the studio backing track (note the piano and no piano player). The studio version is different to this "performance" in that the studio version doesn't include the "Bom-sho-be-do-wop" backing vocals, nor the ambiguity of John singing "You can count me out - in!" Yeah my dear girl so the thing is back in the day after the Beatles stop touring they would make these short films short clips a column and they would give them to all the TV stations all over the world and they would put them on their music programs did Clarke had a show and there was a whole host of other shows that would anxiously await these films to come out so they can put them on and you know that obviously they get the highest ratings imagine us when we growing up and we saw these for the first time on television it just blew our minds and wasn't it Paul just wearing sweatpants or John I can't remember now say wasn't that Billy Preston on keyboard? Yeah that electric piano it just had to be Billy all right there girl

Check out the Beatles "Abbey Road Medley" which should have been released as an extended single. This is the restored version: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/msmmZKh31Me8XWw.html

After the hippie period, the Beatles decided that rock and roll had been the revolution after all. And where they went everyone was sure to follow. The wider trend in amplification had delivered pay gold for the likes of Cream and was about to turn the likes of Led Zeppelin et al into world-beaters. But the fab four were still the market leaders at this point. Even if the band itself was not long for this world.
