In 480 B.C. a state of war exists between Persia, led by King Xerxes (Rodrigo Santoro), and Greece. At the Battle of Thermopylae, Leonidas (Gerard Butler), king of the Greek city state of Sparta, leads his badly outnumbered warriors against the massive Persian army. Though certain death awaits the Spartans, their sacrifice inspires all of Greece to unite against their common enemy.

When Leonidas tells Ephialtes “may you live forever,” it’s the ultimate curse to a Spartan as dying in battle is the greatest glory they can achieve.

You see the interview where Butler mentioned that Snyder had him try that line a bunch of different ways? Then, as Snyder wanted to move on, Butler said "Can I try ONE MORE take?" And that's now the movie

The final 300 seconds of this masterpiece was EXCEPTIONAL beyond words. Even after the death of King Leonidas against the crazed Xerxes, Leonidas' courage never dies. 💯

This is one epic film that I ever enjoyed about the 300 Spartans, there one episode I loved from Genndy Tartakovsky's Samurai Jack, which Jack has crossover with the 300 Spartans.

I'd haven't seen this movie for soooo long when I was a kid! I'm a big fan of Zack Snyder's films and I love Gerard Butler as an actor. King Leonidas is the best role for him!

I think in real life for the battle of Thermopylae, actual Spartans did wear body armor so they weren’t completely topless, also they had an alliance with other Greek city states, so the Greek army/alliance of Greek city states with the Spartans numbered 7000 and out of those 7000 soldiers there were 300 spartans, and off shore there was a Greek fleet led by Themistocles. Anyone please correct me if I am wrong.

Leonidas in the actual battle was in his 60s. He was still a front line warrior. Died during the battle and the Persians took his body making the remaining Spartans charge back in and keep fighting to recover his body which they did.

I own comic of this. I have to say this film perfectly recreates not just color scheme and hue of the comic but also, some scenes are straight out of comic. Just amazing.

Hey Cody, thanks for this reaction. I have an important question to ask you, have you heard of a sword and shield series called "Spartacus" ? I think you'd like it. It's like a much longer, more hardcore version of this movie

Keep in mind, this is the adaptation of Frank Miller's 300 4-issue comic book mini-series, loosely based on the historical events at Thermopylae.

One of the things a lot of people don't seem to get about this movie is how it's not trying to be realistic or historical, it's over exaggerated to inspire the greeks at the end, its why the persians look like monsters, why the priests look so disgusting, and why there's a random dude with a goat head playing the flute, I guess. Its the story being told by the guy in the eye patch (I forget his name) at the end of the movie, not a one to one retelling of what actually happened.

This is possibly the best explanation for "300" I have ever seen. Had more people had this viewpoint when first viewing this movie, it would have been even more beloved, appreciated, and successful than it already was.

bro I got to visit thermopylae in my college days and it was a real weird feeling just being there like you could feel the death sorounding that place,...the second movie basically picks up where we left of and its about the war in the ocean with ships and shit, showing the other side of the war

This is the first time I'm seeing this movie and it's a lot of fun!! Obviously, a lot had to be cut down for KZfaq, but the stuff that is here works for me. I'm perfectly fine with a simple story with simple characters as long as it's entertaining. Gerard Butler really steals the show as Leonidas, he perfectly fits the "badass war hero" role! I also like that Leonidas, while being a brutal warrior and leader, is also clever. The trick he played at the end by pretending to surrender and serving as a jumping post for the one guy caught me off guard!! I haven't seen the second either, but I can imagine it's more of the same, which I wouldn't be against. I definitely think you should react to it when you get the chance, Cody!!

This is based on historical events and the Frank Miller graphic novel of the same name. If you haven't seen them already, other graphic novel adaptations I recommend watching are V for Vendetta, Sin City and Watchmen. This was followed by 300: Rise of an Empire and served as a major inspiration for the Spartacus series

Ohhh, so this is where the meme originated from… neat. Also a bit of a recommendation, but when it comes to streaming I HIGHLY recommend reacting to Godzilla Minus One. That is if you haven’t seen it yet.

Fun fact: This movie is actually based on a comic book by Frank Miller. But most people don't know that and just assume it's an exaggeration of historical events (which it is, but Frank Miller did it with his comic first). If you liked this and are interested in checking out another Frank Miller comic-to-movie adaptation, I highly recommend Sin City.

300:Rise of an Empire, isn't as good as the first, but has storylines that ties both films together. One of my favorite characters is in the sequel.

In the real battle, the Trojan King was killed early on. However, the Trojan Navy decimated the Persian Navy. Encircling the Persian forces!! Killing half the Persian forces!! The Persian military withdrawal from the battle, loosing the war. Years later, Alexander the Great, with an Iron fist, destroyed the remaining Persian generals. This is why Alexander is considered the greatest Military General of all time.

@@ItsTotallyCody There is always 1. Everyone else says it's epic, but ok. My wife is from Pireaus, I've been to the assumed location of this movie, on the way to Volos. We got married on Salamina Island, from (the lesser) part 2. I visited the graveyard where those soldiers are buried, at the island of Egina. All together a impressive experience. At Sparti isn't much left of that time, except the museum. I think they build a church on top of the mountain, where this temple was.
