Occasionally, a golf lesson or a piece of advice can profoundly transform your game, leading to a significant positive impact on your overall play. Such was the case for myself, who experienced this transformation just a few years into my golf journey, and to this day I still remember it as the best lesson I ever had, it completely changed my outlook on the game and my swing.
In this video I guide you through the lesson explaining just why this particular one stands out as the most impactful I've ever had.
If this changed things for me, i'm confident that plenty of you will have the same experience
As always just let me know if you have any questions and I can get back to you

I appreciate that you kept the "shank" on the video and did not edit for perfection!

I guess it was edited and we see the 10-th attempt to hit the ball without a shank)))) Just joking. Chris is the best coach on youtube.

This really is a great tip and seems so simple to focus on in the swing 👍

Another great video! The problem is, in my opinion, that a lot of golf instructors use the "wrong" terminology to explain how a golf swing should work. My own experience was and still is, that there is a huge difference between what the instructor means and what the trainee understands, especially when somebody tells you you have to "turn", "rotate", "pivot", "tilt", "shift weight", "shift pressure", etc., etc. Only a few instructors - at least those I had - really take care about the body as the motor of a golf-swing which ends up, that a lot of us got armsy, handy, flippy......and then, after you realize that you are doing something fundamentally wrong, it's really hard to do some kind of a "reset" and start from the beginning in the right way. Many thanks for your really great explanations and videos!

Thanks for great video Chris. I can do this drill really well, but problems arise when I try to add length to the swing. Any drills on the best way to lengthen this out?

Nice one Chris. Thank you. It’s interesting that you recently posted your clock face drill for a slice/hook correction and I commented with what my Poppa taught my father when I was about 6 and just starting by hitting the ball to long off (cricket term). Poppa was from the UK, Dad and I were both born in Australia (so the term made sense). What I didn’t add, is although it’s stuck in my mind, it’s actually partly incorrect. Unless, your swing path stays in that circle, which it doesn’t. I had a similar lesson at 16 in the 80’s also (with a handicap of 16) as I still had part of what you had also in my game. In only a couple of months my handicap went into single digits and although I had over a decade hitting off scratch, it’s still a low single digit and this one was key. Thanks for bringing back the memories. Plus, I’m always looking for new ideas to keep improving. 👍😎🇦🇺

Thanks Marcus, such a key lesson! I like the clock fade drill as a reference or concept but as you say it’s probably not 100% correct, but a really nice visual for the course for some

Thanks Chris, great lesson as always. When you said that you got it wrong trying to draw the ball, I thought that you were going to show the right way to draw. But no worries still great drills!

Exactly what I was trying to do, to get a draw. When I swing normally, it’s a lovely wee fade. Cheers, last time I try and do that!

Great drills. When you say the club face is opening/closing is that in reference to the ball position or club arc? Thought the club face stayed square to the swing arc?
@ChrisRyanGolf
@ChrisRyanGolf 6 ай бұрын
Yes relative to the target, in these small drills the face does stay pretty square to the arc, although that’s not the case as this turn up to a full length of swing

Chris , with the met and greet drill is the movt powered primarily by shoulder rotation or torso and hip rotation?
@ChrisRyanGolf
@ChrisRyanGolf 6 ай бұрын
But if both really John, hips and torso are moving here although due to the length of swing it’s probably more controlled with the upper and the lower reacting

This is great however you only explain the clubface from handshake to handshake…. What does the clubface do after it crosses the handshake position? Does it continue to rotate open to the top of the backswing? If so, doesn’t that introduce a tremendous amount of timing especially if your body is not moving correctly?

Whenever I try to hit a draw I find that if I allow the club to naturally open on the backswing it’s easier to let it rotate closed coming through the ball. If the golf swing is on an arc, then trying to keep the face pointing down the line disrupts the natural arc of the swing. I think golfers are afraid of letting the club do what you were showing because they are afraid of the club not pointing at the target during several points in the swing. Also doesn’t it add a little bit of extra club head speed when you let the club close as it’s reaching impact?
@ChrisRyanGolf
@ChrisRyanGolf 5 ай бұрын
100% agree Tom, the face had to rotate open as you say and for so many that just feels so wrong, but so important to let that happen so that it can release effectively through the ball

I personally think that if the drill is done correctly,it would work,You should of winged it,and say, the he first shot is how you do it,and the shanks is how you don't, Edit to perfection next time,and tell people they need to practise a lot 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
