Trump isn't just pandering to his base either, the reason he's a flag-hugger is because that happens to be one of his money moves! Trump threw a lot out there during this two hour yellathon, so we slowed him down to half speed for tonight's CPAC 2019 edition of #DrunkDonaldTrump. On top of that, there is a new bombshell report from the New Yorker that alleges, among other things, that Trump directly ordered the Justice Department to sue to block AT&T's acquisition of Time Warner, because he wanted to punish CNN

In tV shows with a live audience there is the floor manager who signals to the crowd when to clap, chear etc. I can imagine that something similar happens here as well. They get their ques from a signal on the screens or somewhere. And remember most of the times audience in such events are not randomly selected. They are invited and told to comply with the prospect of an open buffe maybe or free drinks
