I like the idea that there are so many bandits that bandits are usually raiding other bandits, not because they have something against that group, but because they got to the farmers just a little too late.

Farming is a job that sees pretty fast automation, why pick your own apples when you can get a super apple picker droid to do it for you faster and cheaper. In lore there are plenty of worlds given over to primarily agricultural production, but they are often of much lower population since the work that is there needs fewer people.
@Meravokas
@Meravokas 8 ай бұрын
@@dccherrytrees7539 While a lot of farming was droid assisted, for agriworlds or 'moisture' worlds (If not one in the same, just one being more productive than the other in mid rim worlds) there were still many non corporate farms that operated and needed man power over just droid power. It's easier to pay and feed a 20-40 workers and do maintenance on 100 droids than a handful of mechanics, at a much higher cost of constant repair/parts and down time for repairs for 200+ droids. Numbers obviously varying by size and type of food production in particular.

Farming becomes less and less necessary the more technology develops. Suddenly a new invention can make one man able to be as efficient as ten men before. Just look at our own world. As time passed, our population increased. But at the same time, the percentage of us working as farmers has steadily decreased.

Something I find interesting. In Wookieepedia, it says the cost of an ISD-1 was 150 million credits and an Arquitens light cruiser was 4 million credits. During Imperial rule, a more practical moff could have bought 10 Arquitens for less than a 1/3 of the cost of an ISD-1 and then used the difference for contracts to give to people in his sector for jobs. It would probably make for boring storytelling, but make more sense practically.
@tba113
@tba113 8 ай бұрын
I suspect most probably did just that. ISDs are iconic images of Imperial might, but they were pretty rare: there's a scene in the novel 'Thrawn' where Moff Pryce gets called in to consult on a multi-system rebel problem, and she makes a conscious effort to not be impressed by her first time seeing one of the huge battleships, much less going aboard. That suggests most task forces were based around smaller ships, like Arquitens, Dreadnaught, and Gozanti cruisers.
@kenle2
@kenle2 8 ай бұрын
The problem comes when you have to deploy garrisons and "peacekeeping" forces, to quell the inevitable insurrection your tactics are going to produce. It's not the idea of taking out pirates and bandits, it's all the collateral damage you are going to cause, no matter what ship you use. So the Empire built its primary capital ships deliberately to be able to drop thousands of troops on uncooperative worlds.

One *PRIMARY* exception to the Empire's chase zones was Hutt Space. The Empire did manage to take some territory from the Hutts, but in more modern canon/still non contradicted/in legends limbo (Much of the Clone Wars aside from Season seven and certain plot elements and points, are/is technically considered legends by Disney still.) much of that territory was what was previously held in agreement with the Hutts by groups like the Pike Syndicate rather than encroaching on 'true' hutt space, as it were. Even in purely legends, the Empire only took a relative of sliver of southern Hutt Space because it wouldn't cause retaliation by the syndicates and groups the Hutts controlled. And trade routs that were needed that would cut through Hutt Space (The Kessel Run being one) weren't worth the potential problems of forcing them open/staying open in first place. On top of Hutt Space the Imperial Military without being specialized missions or building blacksites R&D or anything else, didn't generally go into wild space or venture very far into the Unknow Regions. On top of the Hapan cluster as well. The hyper space routs going in were so 'one way' that even if the Hapans couldn't hold off a prolonged Imperial assault, it'd be a major slog of naval and ground force power if they'd really wanted to try and take the territory.

Agree. There must be an army as a centralized force superior to local self-defense forces, an army capable of dealing with a serious crisis, just as local armies must be at least somehow sponsored by the government, so that if something happens, they can somehow hold out until the Senate holds a hundred and one meeting on the issue, expresses his deep concern, appoints a commission to investigate, etc.

Rather than REPLACING the federal-military with more funding of planetary defense forces, the New Republic should have SUPPLEMENTED the federal-military with more funding of planetary defense forces and allowing citizen militias (The Resistance) and private military groups (The Night Owls) to exist. As well as a military alliance with worlds that did not want to join the new republic (Nevarro). The federal military should have more power than any INDIVIDUAL group, but not more than all of these groups together. This way the federal military can stomp out a rogue planet or militia, but cannot tyrannize the entire galaxy (Since a rebellion would form). It's unlikely these groups would work together for criminal reasons (Like gangs fighting each other) but they would rise up against tyranny. The federal military could also reinforce an individual planet being invaded until a grand army made up of planetary defense forces and private groups could be formed.

I never liked centralisation because it concentrates too much power in a small space, but full local autonomy is also not the greatest because they might suddenly have a problem too big to handle. This is just another balancing act for governments to constantly debate, test and revise over, which I wish more people did do.

Redistribution of resources to even things out a bit and coordination/standardization are pretty vital for a decentralized government. For security forces, having them be local but largely paid for a central gov can work. The central gov sets training and equipment standards, and can take command of local forces when needed. That is pretty much what the US Constitution sets up near the end of Article 1, Section 8... though it isn't quite what we actually do, National Guard forces are sort of close

I look at the U.S. as a core world in modern Geopolitics. For the last 75 years the U.S. as the global security insurer has been a mixed bag. Some regions of the world have built successful manufacturing bases that has greatly benefited their population while others have been a lost cause. Now that the U.S. is withdrawing from globalization, governments will have to bolster their own defenses and economic bases. Just like the outer rim, tensions from poverty and famine will create much unrest in the world.

The only compromise I can see is having a strong federal navy with a contingent of troops like the Marines, while leaving each planet to form a defense force of an army and Air Force contingent to fight off organized pirates as a local governor can. Each planets Army could even have reserve components so in the case of a rural area the people not on duty could band together and at least fight together if their area ends up being raided.

It's all about opportunity, risk, and reward. Supposedly, there is little piracy with respect to a certain country on earth because the risk of getting caught is high, judgement is swift, final, public, and encompassing. ("Fair" is not a part of that equation, but it is consistent.) Meanwhile, in places where risk is lower and reward outweighs the risk, then banditry becomes viable.

Some stuck to local currencies that were based in a hard material - like gold, for example - to avoid dealing with it, but would accept credits in a bind to at least get paid. Reminds me of a period of Roman history right when Octavian began his first Consulship (42 BCE I believe). A large chunk of Roman farmland was stolen by Octavian, and given to retiring soldiers. As a result, most of Rome's farms were now run by people who had never farmed a day in their lives. This lead to two things: A massive crop failure leading to famine, and a large amount of former farmers now left homeless and destitute. The situation became so bad, that large bandit armies of former farmers had formed, and began besieging some of the outer cities on the Peninsula and raiding granaries. To make matters worse, a Pirate King by the name of Sextus Pompeiius had taken Sicili, and had blockaded the Italian peninsula, ransoming the food imports, making the famine worse. So in a galaxy that just went through the Clone Wars, and immediately went to an even more militarized economy without taking any time to really rebuild nonmilitary infrastructure, and add in employment opportunities in this new national military industrial complex being heavily slated against any kind of non human...you can see why a lot of alien pirates exist

afaik regular people can invest in somali pirates via local stock markets, of course wealthier warlords can afford bigger stakes in these "ventures" so its both democratic and oligarchic, like any other public market.

Who pays for the jedi? Do they receive a republic subsidy, making them effectively a division of the Republic senate? Like medieval monks, are they landowners who rent out land to tenant farmers? Do they survive on donations from wealthy patrons such as the Naboo royal family, potentially opening them up to conflicts of interest, or a mix of all of the above? An interesting question that opens up questions of where the Jedi's true loyalty lies... The sith could be mass murderers, but they were not hypocrits. They embraced their passions, regardless of moral reservations. Imagine being thrown off your land by a jedi landlord because your crops had failed three years in a row, Turing to crime out of desperation, joining an organised criminal group; be it a gang or syndicate. Only to be cut down by a Jedi peacekeeper.

He could have a name like Binge Wandred and the Galactic Civil war could have only affected his gas prices. He just works his dead end job in his world never having left. Maybe he and his family sit on the couch and watch the shows Lumpy had in the holiday special like in the days of TGIF. Maybe his wife learned to cook from that stir whip show. There first has to be centralized government for there to be a centralized armed forces to protect the people. The people need to be involved in the government and therefore all in this together , all for one and one for all. To have that one who is willing to put their life on the line for people they've never met, you need community and pride in what you have as a people and a country.

I frequently find myself wondering exactly how much of your explanations of these things in Star Wars (also other IPs) comes from truly impressive scraping for official lore and how much of comes from just applying real world logic, psychology, social and economic knowledge, etc to what canon material is available. I tend to suspect it's more of the latter because nobody writing Star Wars has ever bothered to put nearly this much thought into it. If your arguments have a flaw it's that they make to much sense to fit the material.

You make more sense than most people I know my friend. I'll use my community. We want law and order, but we don't want to much that you can't have fun. I've seen people arrested for drinking one beer in their front yard. Not so much these days. But for a while, when you saw a police officer, you were getting harassed. Now, the meth heads have taken over. Two extremes. But that happened becuase the mines closed and manufacturing went over seas. Boredom is a dangerous thing alone. Boredom combined with suffering. I know people living without electricity. Not just a couple. A lot. Homeless people in a place I never thought I would see it. And there are a lot of reasons for the decline of coal. But it doesn't matter what that reason is. The powers that be refuse to let the people here adapt and move past it. And it's all they harp about. Becuase it keeps them elected. It's all they have. So, they have to keep the people down to keep harping about it. And our local governments are afraid of growth. New people, they might not vote for them. And now it's turning into a ghost town. The Metallica song, king nothing. And all I want is a normal life. A home tli can relax in. I've literally watched my community die. And it's like the people around me are blind to it. But you illustrated it perfectly. At the beginning of the video is was like, "well, you are talking about a few characters in a galaxy of God knows how many and no one wants to watch a movie about people having nice boring lives.". But I kept watching. We just want a way to put food on the table. We want lose and order but not so much that we are afraid we will be arrested for made up crimes just to keep the money flowing through the court house. Which is literally big business. The mines closed, and the jails opened. I've seen drugs planted. Bullshit charges. And a whole list of things. Because the powers that be, they ain't gonna go without money. And the people themselves became a resource to be mined. Now, there aren't so much people here. I like to tell the people of my town, we are strangling the loves out of ourselves and none of you can seem to see it. When we can do so much more than mine coal. No one even likes the stuff. They hate it. But all you have to do to control people, is trigger them.

12:42 The challenge is that it can't be sorted by government because of the incentives involved. Simply building "housing and schools" doesn't solve it because that money gets funnelled into the local warlord's coffers or those schools and public housing are looted and destroyed. There is a region why some regions of the world are poor and it has to do with culture, choices and IQ. If it was so easy to solve, such a wicked problem would have been solved by now.

i think that the empire really cut themselves off at the knees and elbows, when they basically Immediately retired and scrapped Literally Every Acclamator and Venator SD, and Every Laat/i gunship or drop-ship. The reason why, is because while they might not be as big as a an Imperator ISD, the clone-wars ships could still serve as the backbone of how they rapidly deployed and re-deployed clone-troopers to a scene of battle. - This would, ironically, also make the perfect galactic federal police force as well as federal cargo distribution network. All that would be needed, is to swap out clones with a galactic populace force of stormtroopers and other imperial military. IMO, it serves as a strong indicator that the Tarkin Doctrine and other gleefully ham-fisted iron-handed policies against the populaces, hindered the empire more than helped it (and likewise helped the rebellion), and ultimately led to imperial decline and overthrow.

The key thing often overlooked about the empire is that its forces were purposefully designed to be utterly dependent on the logistics of the empire, thus absolute loyalty was assured. Sure Palpatine could have sent out highly mobile neigh-unstoppable elite units to hunt down and terrorize criminals, to great effect, but then if any of those elite units went rogue he would have a huge problem as it would be very easy for them to sustain themselves raiding Imperial facilities, and it would be very difficult to work out exactly which elite unit went rogue. That's essentially what happened in the WH40k Imperium, the Space Marine legions were phenomenally effective but the only thing that could stop a legion of Space Marines was another legion of Space Marines, the whole Imperium was built on the unfounded assumption that a legion could never go rogue. Had Palpatine never built the Death Stars the Rebels would never have had a truly meaningful target to destroy, every victory would have just been delaying the inevitable, so long as the empire could collect taxes the only way the Rebels could bleed them dry with little cuts would be to bleed the entire galaxy dry. Hence why support for the Rebels was dwindling, without a clear end goal (and despite the best of intentions) they were just terrorists.

Excellent points. Centralized government fails and falls to totalitarianism or "benevolent dictator". De-centralized government fails for different reasons, an inability to deal with trade and protectiion. At the end of the American Revolution other diplomats referred to what would become the USA as negotiating with 13 fists. The American Civil War shifted people from a State identity to a nation identity and started centralized authority. A balance must be maintained were a Central Government provides an overwatch and local governments can deal with what matters to locals. Instead we see Centralized governments trying to control things the same way across the sphere when in actuality what works in place does not work in others. The USSR central government caused a massive famine when bureaucrats far away with no knowledge of farming told local farmers how to farm and then demand 10% improvement every year. The CCP is going through this now for about the third time. The USA is facing this now with a Centralized government using Federal money to make states heel to the whims of DC. Likewise forcing people to buy products they may not want or desire. The USA like the CCP and USSR before it fail because of the bureaucrat class. Without them there are no elites.

They're not really everywhere or a problem for the average citizens as far I can tell. They are just out on the under developed fringes of the galactic community, that just happens to be where the story takes us. By the numbers the average citizen is more likely to be a core worlder who likely never travels beyond their world, and certainly does not have their own ship to do so. Stars wars stories could just as well be a financial thriller on nemoidia, but ultimately it's a space western on the frontier

George Washington was a Freemason not a Christian, he believed Christianity was important for the people. France is America's oldest Ally. The French helped Funded and Arm the Amerian Revolution. @jiffypoo5029 For some reason, I'm having trouble seeing your comment, but this got interesting, so thank you. The idea of separation church and state has most confused since most don't understand what it actually means. They didn't want a main denomination, for example like the catholic being the government registered religion. I do admit that the Jefferson Bible is a oddity and I personally don't agree with that blaspheme but still, freedom of religion. However this doesn't take away, and accusations are ludicrous. Yes George Washington was a free manson, but that never stop him from his beliefs. Letters between his peers, wife, and men that served lead to that. His journals are enlightening. OK the French stuff is correct, I do admit it in this part. Maybe I miss interpret the last French point. My bad if so. Hopefully I didn't miss anything
