The Brazilian girl knows nothing. I am gay myself, Brazilian, and I have never been affected by it. I am 39 years old. 20 years ago it was different! Maybe if you are 80 years old, you might have some prejudice still. Otherwise, you will be more than fine.

I'm brazilian and I know France. In LGBTQ+ rights Brazil has more than France but I think that the public opinion french people are less homophobic than brazilians. In big cities it's more acceptable but not too much in the countryside but the situation is getting better. I think Brazil is more friendly than Mexico

Brazil and Mexico are both very similar regarding attitudes towards LGBT, as told by travelers who compared both, and many LGBT reviews and journalism in both countries

Mexico and France are ok to be gay, Brazil I think like be both gay and homophobic, idk about Ukraine but Ukraine and Russia have the same religion, I have to disagree with Turkey and Nigeria because their countries aren’t allowed to be gay because they are muslims(you can tell the lgbtq Nigerian had a hijab on)

According to the Spartacus Gay Travel Index 2021 they are in the right order. The countries there are ranked as: France 22 Mexico and Brazil 40 Ukraine 107 Turkey 117 Nigeria 190

@@zorororonoa3626 Nigeria is a shithole, and usually lack of progressive values go together with being a shithole. Chances are that if a place criminalizes same sex relationships its also the kind of place where half the population doesn't have clean drinking water. Social development is in diapers, as it is their economy, their infrastructure, health system, education... also this correlates a lot with ultra religious countries. So if being based means living in the kind of country where 15% of the population has aids and the median life expectancy is 60 years old, be my guess

I think the Turkish person is from central Anatolia, where people are more conservative, because we surely are not religious in the west, north, and some parts of the south. Turkey is actually one of the least religious Muslim-majority countries in the world. Our state is secular, and this is something that is protected by law. You won't face any legal issues being lgbtq+ here, especially since the new generation and some millennials are accepting. I've never had an odd reaction from someone under 40 about being gay.

Being conservative doesn't mean you're religious, as you can be traditional even if you are an atheist. The people of Trabzon and Rize are just nationalists, not religion-crazy people.

as a brazilian I can say that Alice is absolutely right, you guys need to remember that brazil is a huuuuuge country and even though things have changed a lot in the last few years we are faaaaaar from being reeally accepted, it is certainly more peaceful and acceptable in bigger cities , but whoever thinks that we are in better ways of than any other countries of latin america is wrong...

Even in Ecuador that is a small country, there's a huge difference between being in urban versus rural areas, and also differences between the coast and lowlands, the highlands (Andes mountains), the amazon forest and the Galapagos islands (last two are not very populated though). Mindsets of people are so different. Highland people in Ecuador tend to care less about what their neighbours do, unless it's something disturbing them directly. They can hate something, but they're too scared to confront. I live in the middle-class part of Quito city (the capital, located in the highlands) and I just went yesterday to a party with people from 20 to 40 years old, pretty much everybody was bisexual, it was not intended to be a LGBTQ+ party, and nobody cared about anything, lots of kisses, y'know! This might change in the poorer parts of the city, but the cleaning staff at my job live in those neighbourhoods, they know I'm LGBTQ+, we love each other and they tolerate me well, because they see the person in me and not a sexual orientation. Guayaquil city is in the coast of Ecuador, it is as big as Quito city, but I would fear so much to hold hands in public in most of the city. People are so direct and don't fear conflict, so many people can jeer at us in public. There's a huge amount of extremist christians over there as well. Galapagos citizens are so used to foreigners, I think they're more chilled. I'm part of the privileged LGBTQ+ in my country, and sadly I do see from time to time violent acts in the media and Twitter. That's my contribution, thanks Marina, greetings from Ecuador!

@@illillyillyo This conversation makes me feel bad about Netherlands 😅 I heard of the drugs stereotype too but later in life growing up, along with the bikes one, so I don't know if we got it later, or I just never had heard of it, to be fair. But not the other one you mentioned. The same sex marriages though was a really big one. At least in Greece it was brought up all the time as a joke.

I lived in Sydney Australia for 4 years, and their gay and lesbian Mardi gras parade is televised nationally (annually throughout the entire country since the 1980's). No one complains about it, in fact they look forward to it

as a brazilian, i can say that brazil and mexico are really similar when it comes to acceptance towards the lgbtq+ community. it is a latin american thing maybe? idk, im not sure. but we have a lot in common culturally speaking and i guess that's why i feel that the two countries are really similar!

Spain is super lgbtq friendly in 2005 gay marriage legalised and I saw gay couples kissing in the street in 2006 which I never saw in UK!

Here a Turkish from capital city of Turkey, Ankara. We are not too religious, but i can say that we are a religious country - atheist here - . And a militarist country. any person who is from any Balkan country will understand me. There were some times of The republic of Turkey that ruled by militarist party, secular party, and as you know now we are ruled by religious party unfortunately. But in none of this times LGBTİ is thought to be as normal thing. İf you are gay, even if u are masculine one, you are not accepted as a man and same think for lesbians too. İ dont even talk about transsexual persons think that what they are facing with in public. İt really breaks my heart. İ support them. But i dont support prides. Especially the İstanbul pride. They are really toxic. What makes them toxic is -again- us. We dont defend their rights. İ hope one day we get rid of this idiots, and everybody lives as they wish❤️

I was in Germany last year. I visited about 20 cities and in all of them, I saw more rainbow flags than German flags. Argentina was among the first countries to have gay marriage (before France). Also, Uruguay and Colombia are gay-friendly.

In the past couple of years I traveled a lot in Mexico in cities like Guadalajara and Puebla and I saw no problems for gay people. I think that it's like the US - more accepted in big cities but not accepted in small towns or rural areas.

Here's a condensed story I read from a US Army advisor to Ukraine, pre-2022: >Guy could clear out a room by asking people if they'd rather blow a dude or buttsecks him >Asked a dude if he knew that the Bruno Mars song he was listening to was gay. Dude almost dropped his phone. >People took "gay" as a serious insult >Visited the front lines once. Russians and Ukrainians taking potshots at each other >Grabbed a megaphone and yelled, "ANYONE WHO SHOOTS NEXT IS GAY" in broken Russian. >Both sides stop firing. Complete silence for ~3 mins

I am in Tennessee I am from Colorado I do not know rights in countries but I am proud of the channel to choose those who know about their country law .. but many do say that because you are who you are it's because you need a real man to feel woman ugh 😩 or when your transition many have a issue understanding the part that when you are uncomfortable inside your body as a woman or as a man feeling as though you are meant to be something else!! I am not transition orr gay ..maybe I am attracted to woman .. but I understand completely just as much as I am sensitive to others feelings. 💛😩

I think many Mexicans are gay friendly, open minded, relaxed about the topic, and also that there are many openly gay people. Of course homophobia still exist there, because of wrong religious beliefs maybe, and of course because of machismo. But, you can watching characters on TV channels more than before, and gay couples on the street, or talk about gay subject more naturally than before. About what the Mexican guy said about Puebla city being one of the most homophobic cities in the country, I desagree. On the contrary, I think people from Guanajuato State are the most conservative in terms of acceptance of sexual diversity.. However, in that state there are also openly gay men, as there are gays in the closet in Mexico City and homophobia.

This was a really good vid. I think it’s helpful to see the range in treatment as well as how some of the countries evolved so far, because like the French man said, we can forget how lucky we are sometimes. Here in the US it’s probably about the same as France on this scale, and even so there’s still so much work to be done to improve. It’s scary though to see how bad things still are on the harsher end of this country range shown here. I hope globally we all improve and become safer for everyone.

I agree that the U.S. as a whole is on the tolerant end of the scale. Many areas, including most cities, would be as open and accepting as any European city. Rural areas are less so. I am in my late 50s, so of course I have seen light-years of change in the U.S. In my childhood, no gay kid would ever willingly come out in most rural areas or small towns. And tragically, those who were outed were often forced out of their homes by parents or even attacked. I knew a kid who committed suicide after being rejected by his parents.. So, American society has thankfully come a long way -- thanks to the LGBTQ community fighting for itself -- but we have a long way to go, particularly in accepting and respecting trans individuals.

Brazil has changed a lot in the last ten years. We even have ads with lgbt couples on the open TV. It's getting pretty common. I also see a lot of people of the same sex holding hands in the streets. (Ps: I often travel between the north and northeast of the country and these regions are pretty far from Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro). I know things here are not perfect, but they are getting better. I also think Brazil should've stayed in front of Mexico in that line.

No, the line is fine. Mexico has changed a lot too, Mexico City is by far the most gay friendly city in Latin America, people hold hands and kiss everywhere no matter what. And Puerto Vallarta has been the most gay-friendly beach destination on the American continent for years, it's like a refuge for thousands of gays from the United States and Canada. Likewise, in Mexico there is no telenovela that does not have people with gay or lesbian love stories, there are even transgenders having stellar shows on public television.

@@kp2xd340 Well, Brazil has had same sex mariage for 12 years and Mexico for not even 12 months though (and they don't have national adoption rights like Brazil does), plus Brazil has very friendly destinations like SP (biggest pride parade in the world for example). Anyway the most gay friendly big city in Latam is probably still Buenos Aires

@@FOLIPE Mexico City was the first city and jurisdiction in all of Latin America to legalize same-sex marriage in 2010. In Mexico, each state is autonomous and legalized it in its own time. Mexico is more gay friendly, in Brazil there are many super conservative evangelicals, even more than Catholics.

I don't know, my experience tells the opposite, for example I've talked to a lot of people who are from Europe and most of the friendliest ones come from small cities/ towns, people in big cities tend to be rude and hard to talk with. but I'm from Venezuela and that's the opposite, people in big cities tend to be more open and friendly than people from villages, towns... and my family lives in Argentina and they tell me that people from small cities are friendly and easy to talk with unlike people from big cities (Buenos Aires for example) so at the end that depends on the country 😅

in Serbia LGBT have strange position, not so accepted as in France, Germany or Nordic Europe, same sex marriage is not legal, there are laws giving equality which are not always followed, prime minister is openly lesbian in relationship with other woman with whom has a baby... chaos is our middle name :)

and actually turkey hasnt got an official religion, neither ruled by sharia. we live secular in here and yes people may insult you or make fun of you in turkey since there are religious people too. but this doesnt mean that being gay, acting like gay etc. is forbidden. you can be whatever you want, most of the people will respect.

I'm Dutch, I think we would be par with France, or maybe somewhat above France. I think Brazil should be second instead of Mexico, there are almost no gayer cities in the world than Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro! And hopefully, when Bolsonaro is gone, things will be better for Brazil. All cool guests by the way! I'm happy that Stacey is now living in a country where she can be herself, but it would of course be much better if her home country would not be so conservative.

I'm not into politics but Brazil hasn't changed a lot in terms of people's mindset towards the LGBT community. The current president is homophobic the same way Bolsonaro is. Both said questionable things about gay people in the past although Lula's supporters will never admit it. Don't believe in everything you hear.

I'm a Brazilian man, from North of Brazil (Belém-PA). I’m not gay, but I don’t agree with the Brazilian of the video. This was Brazil 20 or 30 years ago. Now I think the society accepted and normalised gay relationships. One of my best friend is gay, and I was in his wedding. We see gay couple everywhere in the streets, TV, internet, etc. I think the situation in Brazil is a lot, but a lot better than the rest of Latin America.

Hardly, I'd say Uruguay and Argentina are easily better to be gay, and Brazil would probably tie with Mexico, Colombia, Chile, Costa Rica, Panama and Ecuador. However, yes Brazil is better for gays than Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Bolivia, Peru, and Paraguay

UK and I live in Spain both countries very gay friendly and I have never witnessed any negativity from the people. There are gay bars and areas in both.

Here in Greece, this matter is ....interesting... I belong to the LGBTQ myself and to be honest I have never been attacked or insulted by the people I came out to. Especially the people from 40 and under don't mind. Even in the villages, since my family is from one and my cousins and aunt are fine with it and their friends too. In university also everyone was more than ok with it as well. BUT... also coming from a very Christianic family, my parents' friends can be very homophobic and make harsh jokes, because they don't know about me. If they did, though, they wouldn't say something. Not to my face. Most likely they would feel sad for my parents, but that's all. Same in my job in a christianic magazine (because I have to work and that's the best I found ironically), they literally told me not to draw manga because they have "silly things like gays". So as a punishment I draw manga characters in them in more cartoon style and they don't even know~ And someone would ask why do I still work there, but I find more amusing to have the homophobes pay and praise a LGBTQ person's job than lose my job because of their bigotry. After all they are all just words but harmless. In addition to many places in the world, even if there is homophobia, it's rarely if ever dangerous. Those people are like dogs that bark too loudly but don't dare to bite. Incidents of violence might happen, but they are the exception, not the canon. If only I got all guys to realize changing me is not possible that would be great because many of them don't grasp the concept and hit on me anyway even if they know. But oh well, at least they don't attack me or try to physically force me to change. So I am grateful, as it could be worse.

What's interesting about this lineup is that most of the 'least' countries got their homophobia through colonialism and Western influences, while France, the 'least,' was one of the countries that partook in said colonialism. In general, most countries with marriage equality are in Europe, but they only progressed after causing regression elsewhere. P.S. despite the prevalent machismo culture, literally every Latin American guy I've met has implied that most Latino guys have a clear bisexual streak. Would anyone care to explain why?

In the main countries of Latin America such as Brazil, Argentina, Mexico, Colombia and Chile, same-sex marriage is allowed. What happens in Hispanic countries is that sex is a huge taboo for us, so for that reason the interest about it grows and grows and sometimes getting a girlfriend isn't easy, nor fast, maybe those Latino guys you met are not exactly bisexual but curious. To be honest, in our countries if you fall in love with your straight friend, and you don't give up quickly, there are chances to have a fun adventure with him. 🤣

I think it depends of how old they are. Almost every young person I know have ever had at least one "homo experience" or are bisexual. But it's not so common between older people. (I live in Brazil, specifically southeast, don't know about other regions)

What do you mean colonialism? Christianity? I kinda doubt that homosexuality was OK before in those countries (Nigeria had islam before colonization, that makes me doubt even more), even though nowadays its for sure church (both christien and islamic) that spreads the most hate. Were the native religions and socialties more gay friendly? Ha ha, its so interesting to me that most gay hostile environments create the most gays, lol. I have friends from Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and Georgia and in all of them being gay is huge taboo (even criminalized until recently). Yet, bisexuality is super common, way more common then in my, liberal country. I think gender segregation and sexual frustration definitelly plays a role. Girls in Georgia also told me they do not trust, even fear, Georgien man.

@@Anastazka00 You doubted wrong, Islam wasn't an indigenous religion to West Africa either, they have their own tribal faiths that go back centuries and were less restrictive than you'd think. Regarding native societies being queer friendly, I actually recommend you look up how gay and trans friendly Indigenous American tribes have always been, and openly so before you-know-who arrived by ship. And trans people were also a common sight in Mughal (who were Muslim) courts in South Asia and were revered for their wisdom. Some extremist Islamist fringes aren't faultless, but it was colonial legislation like Section 377 from the British, that criminalized homosexuality in most former colonies, and this continues to this day thanks to LDS missionaries traveling to South Korea, China, Pacific Islands etc and spreading more queerphobic bigotry in the name of 'civlizing' the 'savages'

I so totally agree. In my experience, love, respect and tolerance allow you to see and know the individual person, with all the humanity and intelligence that person brings to the world. Hate just blinds you to other people. It negates the individual and prevents any kind of human connection on any level.

I'm Brazilian and personally I don't have nothing against it. Although I see this as something individual and obviously not as an opinion of a homogeneous group, as someone would like to preach. Homosexuality or heterosexuality is restricted to the person and only to him and both must be respected, as long as there is no overlap between one and the other.

I’m a gay American and I’d put my country maybe one spot above or below France. We have homophobes here, but I only really hear from them online. When I came out I had no issues at all with anyone. I know some people that didn’t have a great coming out experience, but most people were very sympathetic of their situations and were willing to get them help. This is why I’ve never felt the need to go to a pride parade or anything like that, I’m very satisfied with how I’m treated in my country.

We have to honor and respect your generation and the generations before you, who changed history and our society for the better by refusing to hide, to be outsiders or to be victims. History will look back and view LGBTQ Americans as pioneers and, indeed, heroes. I am a cis, straight man, but I have an adult trans daughter. I am so grateful to my fellow Americans for making this a country where my daughter can be safe, proud and productive.

Turkey didn't went backwards! Majority of Turks are very conservative and religious. The only change you have seen today is that there is a democracy in Turkey now. Before that, Turkey was ruled by a pseudo-secular dictatorship of Kemalists who only had the support of the liberal-secular Western oriented Marmara region based Turks but now with democracy, majority of the population which is conservative & religious btw, is more visible. That's why Erdogan is being elected to the office more and more.

I'm from the United States and have three cousins who are gay from both side of my family two men and one woman that are older then my self and we knew they were gay growing up some had problems with them being guy but I didn't I look at it like this live and let live and let every one love who they love .
