i worked at a pet store that had a barracuda in one of the tanks. the ammonia was off the charts, ph was around 7.5, and it freaked out , jumped and hit the halide above the tank cause halides are necessary, and broke it. they had him for sale for 400 and i kept asking to return him to the distributer and i'd use the tank for coral frags cause no one's gonna buy a barracuda from a shitty store in north philly. they refused to return it. i found out that the levels were fucked bc the cashiers would come back and dump dozens of feeder goldfish in there and they would die and rot up the tank. i told everyone not to feed him, made signs, put a lid on the tank. but still, goldfish everywhere. i even caught a kid throwing skittles in his tank and the oscars, who were actually eating them. i bet my boss and grouper guy are friends.

budgies absolutely wouldnt kill the fish INTENTIONALLY. but one of two things is going to happen here: 1. your bird drowns because they shouldnt be bathing in ANY body of water that deep. even the old bath i had for my budgies was too deep and it was maybe 3in deep. but i kept a close eye on them the entire time and even separated them if they were getting a little too hyped about bathtime so they wouldnt hurt eachother. a bowl that deep is INCREDIBLY dangerous and budgies are accident prone and fragile. 2. your fish dies because budgies are dirty birds. love the little dudes with all my heart, but theyre almost constantly shitting. as any small animal is. i literally hear them shit in the dead of night. the shit while eating. they shit while BATHING. they shouldnt be swimming around in their own poop let alone another animals. but, considering the bowl, i cant imagine they give too much of a fuck about their bird much. its a shock hes even out of a cage at all. dude probably has a round cage 🙃

These videos browsing *ahem* CruddyAquariums have inspired me to try real fishkeeping. I want to get an 8 gal tank (that's the biggest I can get for my house), make it look like a natural freshwater habitat, and put one (1) betta inside. I'm nervous about screwing it all up but surely I cannot do worse than these jerks. Also I hope that is not a goliath grouper in that one video because I'm pretty sure those are a protected species and it is extremely illegal to keep one in captivity.

I worked in a petstore for years and every year people would come in for goldfish for persian new years. We weren't allowed to not sell them but we would encourage them to only keep them for the new years and to bring them back after. We did get some people bringing them back which was good.

The fish in that bar top looked similar to White Skirt Tetra's. If they are, I'm not sure, but they sure do look like them. Still getting some more tanks sat up, but I've got 4/7 done. Although one (my betta tank) had an issue with the top of an old stand splitting down the center, so I had to set up a new tank and transfer everything over. I also had to set up something for a new batch of cory cat fry. At least 30-40 right now, at most 50. Learned that feeding the adults a single Fluval bug bites/algae crisp "encourages" them; I just put one in there, let them eat the whole thing over the next hour, do a moderate water change and wait for about a day or two, not feeding them until the next evening. The Christian story is somewhat funny. My sister's a children's teacher at her church, and I offered to work with her on doing a fishkeeping basics class with topics that could easily be used for a (few) sermon(s), teaching the kids about proper fish care alongside the sermon stuff (agree or disagree with the Christianity side, I thought it was a good opportunity to help kids and their parents in the future if they ever want to keep fish, making short, easy-to-understand pamphlets for them to take home with them). This is still in the discussion phase as of right now.
