Hi it’s your friendly neighbourhood fish store worker. The amount of times I have specifically said to people that plexus would get massive is insane. They just don’t think about the consequences of buying it. I dread to think of the amount of plecos in tiny aquariums. People, listen to advice and don’t buy a fish cause it’s there, wait for a better option

Fun fact: In ancient China, it was common to hold goldfish in bowls so guests could admire them during conversations, but they were *always* put back into the ponds afterwards. Colonialists had this completely fly over their heads, and goldfish just happen to be durable enough to survive the torment, but it’s horrible for them. I keep my goldfish in a koi pond with two koi, and they’re living good lives.

@@Kikithegreen Colonialism is pretty sad. Without it, Mesoamericans could’ve made the first pizza, but noooo, we had to wipe them out with smallpox and steal their tomatoes. I wouldn’t be surprised if they did, but the church got rid of any evidence of its existence because they thought it was heresy or something. That’s not a problem compared to the countless real problems, but it’s something I like to bring up because no one else seems to think about that.

Bettas need minimum 30l so as long as it ads up to that it's okay. Also from what I've heard is that you can find them in puddles because when it rains heavily the water rises, so they swim places to find food, mate etc, but then the water drops again and they're left with waiting in puddles until there's enough rain again.

@someguy3167
@someguy3167 Жыл бұрын
@@rangerlovee3324 Any fish will use the space given, even bottom dwellers will swim up sometimes. But it's about what space is best to give. Bettas would much prefer more horizontal space than vertical. They aren't a tall fish, and because they need to breath air, the more vertical space there is the harder it is for them to get air. They would much prefer 10 gallons of space that was longer rather than taller as the length is useful for them to swim around in, and the height is simply a burden to breath. A lot of guides online even recommend not putting a betta in a tank over 24 inches tall as that could lead to them exerting too much energy to breath.
@rangerlovee3324
@rangerlovee3324 Жыл бұрын
@@someguy3167 i dont think they care that much... There is difference between 12inches deep and much deeper. They use and appreciate it all.. Not an excuse to make the tank super shallow. Its like different between breeder tank tall vs long. They would do better in a long.. Its still a decent height not like 2 inches of water.. like why would you want to put your fish in 2 inches of water because thats so natural for them.. give them the best, give them space they will use. natural things are not always the best things especially for pet care and domestic animals. idk i just don't see the point in such shallow water. they can fill the tank half way and accomplish the same thing and the fish will use every bit of space, meaning its enriching for it. what i am saying here is i know how bettas work and that they prefer a shallow tank to a tall tank... those tanks we recommend are still not like 3 inches high -_- there is a difference. normal 10 gallon breeder tank is perfect height. i would say no need to make it higher. would they prefer slightly more shallow and more long? yeh probably, would they want the 10gallon filled to 2 gallons... probably not. definitely do better in more volume than that. just because they are adapted to survive in nature in such small places, does not mean we should be giving them the bare minimum in captivity. or even mimicking nature THAT rigidly because the damn fish are so domesticated anyway they dont even care.

In the clownfish one, they put freshwater in it. I heard in one of my science textbooks a couple of years ago that some fish can change from one type of water to another after a couple of generations and changing the salinity slightly every time a new generation is born. Is that true? And I’m not talking about fish such as hybrid striped bass that can move from to the other without any trouble, I’m talking about fish like largemouth bass that are stuck in freshwater.

So clownfish don't need an anemone to survive. They can live just fine without one. It's only in the wild where they use them for protection. Most clowns born in captivity don't even know what an anemone looks like. In fact captive breed clowns, a lot of the time, won't take to an anemone if it's in a tank with them. Also you don't mix the salt into the water in the tank with the fish. You mix that shit separately. Straight salt on fish gills is really bad for them and eats their gills up. So bet that guy mixed the water off screen

The show Tanked actually uses it a lot so the customer doesn't have to wait a week or two for the bio system to form.
