There's another thing to point out about that Nu vs Tager matchup. When Tager jumps, the Nu blockstring can not only be done on reaction to it very easily, but it pushes Tager back further than he was when he started the jump. When I uploaded that match a long time ago, some people in the comments not only told me that Galileo was not playing the matchup correctly (that he should be using more sledge), and that Mike Z Tager would have destroyed that Nu.

Actually laughed out loud at how dominant this match was. Also as far as the video quality is concerned, and since YT wasn’t as predominant in fighting game tutorial content yet, Calamity Trigger actually had a second disc included in the package that only played combo videos and character concepts for you to learn. 2009!!

Bro little story. I was playing BB since the begining and i remember my bestie playing V-13 and Nu on a Top tier rank. I was playing Tager and i can tell you that this match up is completely unfaire. From 10 Game i was winning like 1 or 2 time only. Even with a hard training with the top French Player at that time. This match up was a Brainfuck. It was more easy to win with Arakune against Nu. Nice video bro anyway.

The round starts, Zodd lands a hit and knocks Lex fullscreen. The commentators IMMEDIATELY say "the match is over." That's an 8-2 matchup. Or Superman having a roundstart blockstring infinite on a few members of the cast because their buttons are too slow to contest anything he does. Broly busting out a slow barrier to meme on Frieza for 3 seconds != a 9-1 matchup. I don't even know if we have a 7-3 in Strive.

Seeing BlazBlue videos hits different, cuz when I was like 13 I bought a used version of Continuum Shift from GameSpot cuz I thought Ragna looked sick. I didn't even know anime fighters existed at the time. I'm not sure I even ever successfully pulled off an input move, but I mashed through story mode just because of how much I loved the character designs and storytelling. Now years later, here I am listening to people talk about how this obscure game I'd never heard of again was actually a super popular series, and I just never got to find out because I didn't have internet and I lived in the rural south.

I was playing competitively at the time as well, and was a tager main no less. Had a nu main in my crew back then, but even with the matchup knowledge it was a struggle to deal with this match. This video was something I watched a dozen times back then hoping to find something different that Galileo could've done. Fighting a good nu, arakune & rachel in CT was absolute hell. Luckily I never ran into a good carl, so I never got to experience that nightmare. Tager was so bad back then, but I'm glad during that time Guilty Gear Accent Core was still popular where I was. I was suffer with Tager, but switch to Potemkin & feel like I'm on top of the world. Eventually I noticed that I lacked confidence with Tager & wouldn't take initiative, or even use many of my tools. For example I didn't use 2c to anti air since it was bad. I just took the mixup like a punk. However with Pot I would use everything at my disposal. I was more aggressive, IB to create openings in block strings & anti aired anyone dump enough to jump at me. Of course Pot was arguably high tier back then, so of course I would play him differently. Eventually I would start playing Tager like my Pot. At first I was scared about opening myself up to punishment, but after a while I said screw it. I had "some" success with my new mindset. Of course it probably had more to do with me as a player leveling up, but at least in some matchups I was more confident. Jin players hated me since I had well over 300 hours of matches against one in my crew. If you didn't jump cancel 5b I was going to instant block that second hit & buffer a 360. Scared so many of them when they ran into in a bracket. Good thing Jin was a popular character.

Yeah, once I smoked my friend’s Tager with Es and I felt kind of bad. But also my other friend was beating both of us with stylish mode Taokaka (since we were also new to the game, but didn’t want to use stylish), but then I came back and obliterated him with Tager.

CT is the game that thrusted me into the FGC and some of my fondest memories is the insane amount of hate mail I received and ragequits from some of the people at the top of the leaderboards. Particularly an Arakune player named QuickDrawMcGraw and a Bang in CS named MISSGREENJEANS.

I loved Tager even in this game but he had so many bad matchups against really strong characters. Nu destroys him. Aracune destroys him. Carl annihilates him.

This gives me PTSD. I still remember my local scene; nothing but NU, Arakune and Carl telling me I just have to be patient as Tager...

Nu combo's were pretty visually appealing. but as an old school tager main most match ups were pretty bad.

BBCT was the first "real" fighting game that I ever owned and learned. I had never even heard of special inputs before playing that game. Now I've spent the last decade or so playing every Blazblue since, Guilty Gear XX Accent Core, all versions of Xrd, and now Strive, some KOF titles, UMvC3, and a numch of other smaller titles. I would be so hype for a new Blazblue game with either all-new sprite work or made in Team Red's engine that they use for their 3D character models.
